Very informative.Shared it.I now know why the road is called Wall Tax roadElephant gate etc.There was a theatre Padmanabha in the wall tax road near Elephant gate where in 1970s Telugu films were screened.Just outside Central station is the end of Wall Tax road then.

Very interesting. I was living in gorge town from 1954 to 1986 and I never knew about this. But was wondering why the name elephant gate (when there is no gate), seven wells (this is understandable since they had 7 wells to supply water to gorge town).

Muthialpet High School, Thambu Chetty St 1967 to 74 batch in our whats ap group discussed about this video. I give below some 1. Those of us who lived north of our campus of MHS found மாடிப்பூங்கா our favorite haunt and spent many evenings playing there. I also recall watching some movies in an open air theater with the screen erected right above the wall alluded to in this episode. The audience congregated on both sides of the wall and enjoyed the movie that were shown for free on special holidays. A curious consequence of such a display is that spectators on one side of the fence will see the movie with a left right inversion. Nonetheless everyone had a blast. 2. Yes. First time when i saw Maadi Poonga I was very much exited. Me and Valmiki had a walk from our home near Kalikambal temple and we came across this poonga. In those days i used to think a lot about the strange structure as to what was the necessity to build a narrow Maadi for a poonga. Only now i got the clarification 3. அந்த பூங்காவில் ஒரு வானொலிப் பெட்டியும் உண்டு. அதில் பாடல்கள் கேட்டிருக்கிறேன். 4. Yes. There was also a music band, clad in pristine uniform, that would drop in at the park once a month and play western music for about an hour and leave.
