Ran the 200 for a few months, and have now picked up the 240. I have come to the conclusion that this is pretty close to my perfect tool down here in Florida. Little to no need for an axe(have a saw), but plenty of need for a long blade, with good reach, for dealing with vines / saw palmettos etc, and processing and any size wood my gomboy is capable of taking. A proper machete is solid too, but it is so much more limited / focused in its ability. Though it is extremely rare that i chop anything larger than a couple inches dia, unless im looking for a workout. Love the steel. Love the grind. Love the grip. Excellent product. Keep it oiled.

I bought one used a few years ago. That 140 is on my tactical loadout. Just about perfect. I dont suppose you can let us know how you like it. Of all the pairings i have the 240 skrama and the 140 are my faves...its why they are my go to for everything sharp in the woods/battlefield.

I absolutlely love my Skrama and was lucky enough to purchase it with the black leather sheath as a package. I also have the MOLLE sheath strapped to my pack as an additional carry option, or an excuse to get a second one lol. Trust me when I say with time and practice you'll be accustomed to the knife and it will get easier to use in all sorts of tasks, it's fantastic for making "camp coleslaw" hehe your honesty, enthusiasm, and just dosh garnned down-to-Earthiness is one of the reasons i believe yours is one of the best channels on youtube my good Sir. thank you.

Great Review and I recommend that You order the leather sheath and also leather with the other knives this Great Company has to offer . I ordered four other knives from them but I should have done one order and saved a lot on postage , Enjoy all Your knives Guy`s .

Im Always Impressed with your knife throwing skills, Brian! This session is No disappointment in that department: On that last throw, you tossed & spun the knife up for one vertical revolution, caught it by the handle, then with but one moment, turned toward the target, and launched that Chopper Beast: Perfectly Right On the Center of the Target on that Tree. Wow. That's a Knife that isn't designed for Throwing, per se, yet is Balanced Right at the Handle/Blade Axis, and You capitalized on the physics of it, and threw for Gold. (If there were Medals for Throwing, You Won the Gold, that is 🙂) Thanks Again for a Great Review of what appears to be a Great Knife, from our Friends in Finland 🔪

I just bought one , I was looking at the cold steel bolo, but chose this one, because of the overall design. And the steel . I'm glad varusteleka is paypal friendly . I made the right call on this one , good close up video, display of the knife in action.

Hi Bryan After i saw your revue about the Skrama, i, was really blown away and i knew: "I have to have one of these!!!" So i ordered one the same day (here in Switzerland it' was in the middle of the night) you showed your revue on your channel. Today, on the 07-03-2018 i finaly received my stainless steel version of the Skrama. It is a little more expensive then the carbon steel one, but it's worth every cent i payed for it. The knive looks great, it lies good in my hand and with the leather sheath it's also fun to carry it on the belt. I want to thank you for the great work you are doing on your channel. Several years ago I received a Skarma 240 (the large one) from a fellow after I and a few others honestly tested one for him that we passed tester to tester. He was planning on being a U.S. distributor for them. It ain't pretty, but dayum that thing is amazing. I did everything from chopping, batoning, and choking up and using the short finer edge to do some fine work. The dangler makes it pretty easy to belt carry for such a large blade. I could just use it and something like a Mora or some other basic camp knife and be set well. I'd probably add a folding saw for a full kit. It kind of makes all my other big knives to include my Randall Model 14 a moot point. The nice thing is, it's already the not-pretty sister, so you can keep the pretty blades pretty and work this one hard. The Skramas are made by people who have a history of actually working with blades as daily work tools. It shows.

Both Finnish and Scandinavians never cease to amaze me with the quality and variety of their working knives, and often at very reasonable prices. Maybe the Finns are even slightly better with their knives that the neighbouring Scandinavians, being less expensive and still traditional. Or used to be. Great Marttiini Pukka knives for 10 dollars once. I like this heavy model very much.

You pronouced that pretty well. Varusteleka is my go to when I am out and about. It functions as both a knife and an axe. My son loves it. We're swedish btw ! It is as we say just Perkele good! It comes with the first two inches of the blade as a knife and the rest as an axe. Surprised they didnt tell you that..

Yes, to personally reenforce the previous findings, on this 4th day of January, 2023. Varusteleka's Skrama is by far the most durable, most versatile, and most capable "Survival" cutting tool on the international market for the price. Mated with an axe, saw, smaller knife, and awl, this combo and your knowledge could easily survive the toughest challenges. Even alone, this tool will increase anyone's chances of surviving an unexpected twist of bad luck. I give it five stars; and I rarely ever do that for most pieces of equipment. i have the Skrama and both the 110 in carbon and the 140 in stainless all with the leather sheaths these are easily the best bang for the buck knives you can buy ! the Skrama is my go to around the house yard working tool ,, for clearing brush or whatever plus i get to look like a BARBARIAN using it in my cargo shorts and Acapulco shirt !!!!!

The steel this is made out is increndibly good. Even tops 5160 spring steel by some accounts. If i were to ever buy a "big" knife, it would be this!

Its 80crv2 steel. Its my favorite budget steel because most knives here in finland is made from that, and by the same company Laurin metalli. I think this blade also is made by Lauri, and their heat treatment of that steel is on point

Reminds me of a Shao-lin jie-dao, the blunt-point knife carried by the monks to clear brush and use in self defense. The blunt tip was to remind them to abstain from violence. There was a ring at the end of the pommel, also. As a lifelong kung-fu guy, I gotta get me one! Thanks, Bryan!.

Sean M sort of, it is really a "hukari" Finnish soldiers used to make them from battlefield finds, like broken swords and dusacks , use them in battles, close up, then take them home and use them on the farm.

I think there secret is the heat treat they know something the others do not . Happy trails you were correct I waited and you delivered . And I'm a bowie guy but just love there 2 blades beyond description but we will al l know more about these 2 blades come December by then they will have both been through the works and we will no for sure but as for now there both winners . happy trails.

Very cool. Looks like a modern version if a broken back seaxe. I think I will need to order one and then make my own seaxe style sheath. I love my seaxe, but sometimes it's just too pretty to take to the desert. This one ain't pretty, but sure looks useful. Darnit Brian. I figure you just cost me about two hundred bucks. Gotta have that 140 mm puukko knife as well!

Now this is a review about a great big blade for regular folks. I don't own the Skrama myself but I do have the Puukko 140 mm (metric rules! :)) and that's a great knife too. When I need an even smaller knife I often take my Enzo and that's also Finish. For some reason the Fins know how to make knives. What really amazes me is that they ship it to the USA for 10 usd. We pay 10 euro for shipping to The Netherlands. I think they can send it so cheap because they don't have to pay the 21% tax on the blade when selling to the USA. I think they use that to pay for shipping, because I can't ship a fart to the USA for 10 usd. Anyway. Take advantage you people in the USA! I think 105 usd for the knife and the good quality leather sheath with plastic insert shipped to your door is a good deal. Cheaper than any ESEE this size I guess. Some regular folks will still have to save up for it but they are getting great value for the money.

That thing would probably make great feathers if you stabbed the top into the log and made the blade stationary. Then you are able to make a pull cut by pulling the wood towards you against the blade. This is the method used with my axe to make feathersticks when camping.

skrama is short for skramasaksi or scramasax. So yeah, it is a modern sax knife.

Bought mine in 2013 before they offered a sheath and before the knife had the double grind (which I can tell you it doesn't really even need), a sort of 1st generation model. It's by far the best chopper I have come across, and if I ever buy another model, this is the knife it will have to outperform. If I absolutely had to whine about something, it's that it has slight binding issues and that it isn't the best at splitting wood.

The hole is for fine tasks which you can do with tip. Skinning for example. You put the loop through the ring at the end of Tang. This loop put on your arm over elbow, than middle finger and thumb use to hold this hole. Index finger goes to spine. And you have huge skinner.

There is nothing my Skrama can't do I just got an Ontario SP53 bolo and it has more weight but the wife claimed that she has named it Mr. So the Skrama is mine I guess . Happy Trails .

I did get a Jaakaripuukko 140mm stainless steel just like the carbon steel knife I have now. The reason is I always thought that the puukko could be an excellent fishing and hunting knife, so I wanted the stainless version.

The hole at the end of the blade is just for hanging it from a nail on the wall of your shed, as it traditionally was used as just one of those tools you had.

Varusteleka explains this on their site: The hole is needed in the manufacturing process (e.g. tempering). As a result you get a hole that you can use for hanging it from the nail :)

A second time watching this video (and others about the Skrama) because it kept being on my mind and I just ordered. All videos I see are very positive about this blade but you actually can't stop smiling using it. It does seem like you are really impressed. Shipping to The Netherlands even became cheaper and is only 5,50 dollar now and it usually arrives the next day after shipping although they don't promise that. They must have some very fast runners in Finland because I have the same experience with Brisa.fi, also a very good company in Finland and Finland is not close by to where I live. The use will be for woodland. For jungle I will still take the lightweight Tramontina machete. Did you know your military uses metric? When on land I mean. I also like it that you kept the fall in your video. I suggest (and I train myself) to drop the knife as soon as it happens, so it's not still in your hand pointing in the wrong direction. But this goes against nature because natural reflex is to hold on.

I could not agree more ... I'd much prefer a normal 4" blade bushcraft knife with laplander saw combo... You can do almost anything with those ... Processing up to 6 inch fire wood down to carving a spoon. I think these kinda knifes in uk also draw attention to you as a bit of a knife nut and are more likely to get negative police attention

Their website says the bevel on the back side of the blade is because the softer layer of steel on the outside isn't capable of striking a ferro rod.

It's hot it's humid it's been raining it's a very damp atmosphere that mosquitoes love damp weather atmosphere so you did a real good job sparking for a fire . Exhausting environment if you're not used to it , most mammals never get used to this heated humidity . Please take care Brian outside 100 + weather with humidity is very dangerous

I have the mini--Skrama and the mini-Puukko, and they're GREAT! I'm waiting for the full size Skrama and both the 110 and 140 Puukko knives. I have fallen in LOVE with 80CrV-2 steel.

@Mr. Shlock Well, I lost the 140 when my nephew borrowed it and had a serious case of bladelust (it's like bloodlust, but not as vicious.) The 110 kind of got back-seated when I got an LT Wright Jessmuk. However, the Skrama is in my "Blades to take camping" bag, and I don't go to the mountains or desert without it. The full size Skrama (and I guess they have a 200mm size now, but mine is the original 240 Skrama) is easily one of the very best overall, all-around 1-blade option knives there is. The 80CrV-2 steel tougher than even I can break, it holds a very fine edge yet re-sharpens easily, and it's just a genuine pleasure to use. My Jessmuk rides horizontally along my belt in the back, the Skrama dangles at my side and I love it more than some of the girls I dated in college. I can't recommend the 240 Skrama enough.
