LOL It is a hard choice, but I think the 200 is better than the 240, More versatile

Kool,it'll be easier caring that one on your side,only difference between the two is blade length an handles,you get more powerful chops with the 240mm, but both are great, I'm getting 200mm next to complete the family of blades,I also am getting a puukko or skrama 85 for smaller tasks.

@@Thoristesting ,yea I agree with you there,especially if your walking around camp site an people get a little edgy with big blades,I'd have the 240mm on my pack for heavier use or as backup, never know just incase.

thor, I love your videos. so great and useful! when you were carving down on the stump, if you lift your hand (creating a steeper angle) you won't move around so easily. same goes for your firesteel. thought I'd help out! ;-) I have the pukko, and I though I'd pair it with this beast. thank you for your video!

'Have been looking into 80crv2 as a knife steel lately, and it seems very impressive. It is even tougher than 5160 (which is already one of the toughest steels out there) and has much better edge holding and wear resistance on top of it! It almost seems like a 3v light, or a poor man's 3v! It is also cheap and easy to heat treat. Surprisingly, not many companies or makers seem to be using this steel. Most likely because not many people out there know about it.'

A very good combination would be to mount a terava 110 or 140 to the skrama sheath. Also maybe a multi-tool or a pocket saw as well. That way you have three tools in one unit.

From the Varusteleka web site "Since people keep asking: the hole in the blade is there for practical production purposes only - it is used to straighten the blades after tempering and during the grinding and sharpening process. Of course you can come up with your own uses for it too, but most importantly it is there for a purpose, not for decoration!"

Other uses for the hole, bolt on some kind of handle to make a draw knife, use it as a pivot to make a guillotine style Cloggers knife, (see "Advoko makes")

watched several of your videos and subscribed , thanks for your efforts . comparing the Jääkäripuukko 140 to the Sissipuukko which do you prefer ignoring the exposed ring tang and slightly different blade length ? the sissi leather option looks very interesting . what cutting difference did you find between their different blade thicknesses and grind geometry ? thanks again , jeff

Sorry, you are wrong on that hole in the blade, they don't need it for production, it's ment to hang the skrama over a nail at the wall. The spine actually is not a true 90° - as heat treatment leaves the outside somewhat soft, they put a small bevel to the sides of the spine to get to the hard steel inside, works well at scraping though, as you showed. Certainly as close to a one-tool-option as you can get - very much like a Parang machete they use in south-east asia as their only tool. Awesome value.

The hole is similar to a meat cleaver. Are those for straightening as well? I always assumed it was for hanging.

Steve K, i dont know, but like you said i have seen them in meatcleavers as well. Terävä said that it is only for productions 😀

Hi Matt, LOL that is a cool question, now Danish and Finish is very far from each other langue wise, so Im not sure at all.Im preaty sure about the pronounciation of the Terävä because I have head a Finish dude say it, about the Skrama it is just my best guess, though it is not a Finish word, rather than an old Saxon word :)

Damn, my Danish is pretty non-existent. But I do manage Finnish, Swedish and English plus some TV-series German. The Skrama part is from the Anglo-Saxon skramaseax, or usually just seax. Finns can't pronounce it like an Englishman would, but I imagine their effort is closer to the old germanic stuff in this regard. Just imagine an angry German pronouncing "skrama" and it's good enough. Really sharp and aggressive sound.

Thor i bought a stromeng-samekniv-9-knife I dont like it because its light and too thin for batoning. I actually bent it. Whould this be more heavy dudy? Heavier for chopping and tougher?

The answer is YES ! 4mm thickness, and a different steel.... after seeing the Stromeng, I recommend the Terävä - Skrama :-)

Terävä is not the name of firm but brand name of varusteleka knifes.

Hi Miikka, hmmm I did not know that, the guys at Terävä /Verustelaka never said anything when I talked to them, but if you say so. So the Terävä is a brand, must se to correct that :)

It is because of the differential heat treatment. The outer layer of steel is softer and harder to use with a ferro rod. The angle now exposes harder steel. It throws more sparks.

No, it's only available through Varusteleka. Their shipping/tracking is very good, 5-7 business days to me in Canada usually. Choosing DHL is a bit quicker (not by much) but very pricy with their "at-the-door" brokerage fees and such.

@@tagatubos Skrama isn't slang, it's just a shortened version of the word skramasaksi which is the ancient word for a seax.
