Well, this is my favorite metal album of all times, and I always hated when people dismissed metal for being only "power chords". I have always seen these different entonations and colors in 90s Megadeth and you can find some comments from me here in youtube praising the fact that Megadeth is one of the very few monster metal bands (with more than 20 millions albums sold) where you can actually see diminished, sus chords progressions, gipsy-jazz solos etc. We are so lucky that these 4 dudes created such master piece as Rust in Peace... here we are 34 years later still talking about this album.

Outstanding breakdown. This whole album blew me away when it came out in 1990. Souls of Black from Testament came out around the same time. They both had such a dark, overpowering, mysterious feel to them. I'm surprised I didn't melt the cd's from playing them so much.

Hell yeah, my favorite Megadeth track out of them all. Ashamed how it was never played by the RIP lineup outside of a soundcheck. There are a few things I wanted to add however: The lyrics have inspo from the book, with the five magics being similar in both the song and the book although he did say they were different, with sorcery, wizardry, alchemy being the same in both. This song is actually really hard on drums because of the tempo and groove changes, in fact id say it is the hardest megadeth song on drums

Jesus man that analysis was awesome, this is also my favorite Rust in peace song. I've always thought "dethrone the evil prince's iron fists, velvet gloves of sin" meant the prince ruled the kingdom with a facade of a decent person, probably dressing well and maintaining a pompous persona for the public eye all the while being the betitular Abyss Lord. Also also I'm definitely no Dave Mustaine but if you like lyrics that there are more than meets the eye you'll definitely like some songs of mine, please check it out and if you ever feel like something is worth analyzing, I'd be honored. Man this song is my favorite track off of RIP and it’s such a great example of when Megadeth goes technical. The tempo changes throughout this track literally are the foundations of technical death metal. So many techdeath bands look up to rust in peace and Megadeth as one of their many influences.Let’s not forgot Marty’s 4th solo is just absolutely wicked. I always wonder why the rest of Megadeth's catalogue never lived up to this album.

Also, the riff underneath the dual vocal part is so simple yet so perfect.

Dave was on some real spiritual shit. He literally, apparently, did a spell to get laid, etc., and was homeless before becoming rich. He has a song called "FFF." Check out the Gematria. I think he might have been on to something, here.

You know, thirty some years ago when this music was at it's peak, none of us fans could even imagine that people would be doing actual studies of it. You make me proud, son!

Love this song and your breakdown of the theory and how it mirrors the story. Might not get clicks but something heavy from Devin Townsend would be a fun deep dive.

I always knew this had something to do with black magic, but I never realized it had such a story in it. You just made a great track ever greater

You put those out of color wheel order just to piss me off, didn't you? You're that guy who looks through my bulk rares and then puts them back in the wrong boxes.
