Thank you, there's about a 1,000 videos where some 20-30 year old "gun guy" talks about a gun safes "features" but it's almost always about how easy it is to use and how it will obviously fit most guns. They never actually take the thing and legitimately test it. Speaking means nothing, these types of tests however, are worth 1,000 shitty sponsored videos. Thank you for taking one for us and trying to fuck up your expensive lockbox, i appreciate it greatly.

There’s a YT lock pick guy that’s tests all different kinds of safes. He picked this one quickly and easily within a minute or two. He removed the control panel and used a paper clip to manipulate something, opened without any damage. Once I saw that decided to pass.

Not bad for a $200 safe. Definitely better than sentry. He obviously was trying. You can see his foot shaking with fatigue at the end. I'm buying one for my semi truck just to hold a small 380, some ammo, little cash and whatever else I want to keep away from mechanics or company workers. They come with a metal braided wire which I will use but I'm also gonna drill it down into a hidden cabinet in my semi truck!

Funny 😁 However the value is subjective to the situation. A hi point may be invaluable when nothing else is available to go bang when zombies are coming. Theft isn’t really a point with this box. If it keeps children’s booger hooks from gaining access, then it may be a good place for a hi point.

I use mine with the anchor cable to lock my handgun in the car for temporary storage when I run into a "gun free zone". Most car thefts are grab and go. Anything made by man can be defeated with time and tools. It's the deterrent and delay factor verses expense your looking for.

You are correct that anyone with enough time and tools can defeat anything, HOWEVER, I was a welder and metal fabricator for many years, and I have built custom safes for people, and I can tell you when you increase the wall thickness to 3/16" steel, the ability to pry open the safe, becomes almost impossible. I do not understand why companies continue making very thin sheet metal safes. The additional cost to upgrade to 3/16" steel might at most double your cost, however the first time you have a $700 pistol stolen as a result, it would have been cheaper to buy a 3/16" steel safe. The problem is, almost nobody makes them, especially in car safes. At 3/16" steel, the thief will need heavy duty power tools, like a 4 1/2" grinder minimum which is going to make a TON of noise and look like a 4th of July fireworks show for about 15 to 20 minutes minimum.

These budget safes are meant to keep your 5 year old away from your gun. An adult could easily get in these. You want security by a Liberty safe.
@tonyr23603 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't quite call them a budget safe. A Vaultek VT20i is $400 and it's only big enough to hold two pistols and a two extra magazines. It cost as much as some fireproof, floor standing rifle safes that I saw at Sportsman's Warehouse this week.

Wrong tools for accessing any safe. Battery operated Grinder with a cutting wheel and you are in under 3 minutes. 12 gauge steel is no defense against it. Any real thief knows what most people do not. Breaking things is easy with planning and the right tools. The new ones have closed cell foam and when grind cutting they keep the sparks from over heating on thin metals such as these. Great safe for kid deterrent, but not a committed thief.

@@NateTroglin I get mine today. After reading the comments, I think the note of initial deterrent makes sense. Thanks for the vid!
@gregoryhall31563 жыл бұрын
I just ordered two of these myself. Having reviewed a bunch of online reviews and videos of the Vaultek VT20i if anything this video is actually even more reassuring that I made right decision to purchase these-it looks solid and well made with great features-not only keypad entry but also biometric and key-lock for backup-but also bluetooth app with fingerprint info required to open it with Iphone (I view this as backup in case keypad or fingerprint reader malfunctions or I forget numerical keypad code)-and app also allows you to track attempts at opening it and who did so if it was a authorized user. Compared to Gunvault, Sentry Safe, Liberty gunbox, and Barska, Vaultek looks like best bang for the buck. And I also have a Fort Knox pistol box ($260 retail) with mechanical simplex lock which is truly made of safe thick steel and heavy as sin-but takes a few seconds to open and is big and heavy enough that you cant just hide it in a kitchen drawer and I wouldnt consider carting it to and from my vehicle to take it with me while traveling (although in fairness-Ft Knox makes a smaller version intended to be used in vehicle-would fit in some center console storage areas-but would ideally need to be bolted into the console box making it a permanent installation and it costs as much as the fullsize Ft Knox pistol box) And the mechanical lock pistol safes like Ft Knox do have a finite number of combinations (1081 total for a 5 button simplex style lock)-so with enough time and opportunity a teenager could eventually guess the combo if they were determined to do so. Plus if you ever forget the combination and dont have it written down somewhere safe as a backup-you are locked out from your gun-and will have to probably pay someone to breakopen and destroy your pistol safe.So if you want a good sound safe with rapid electronic access and backup entry with mechanical key lock-Vaultek to me seems the best choice at present-and portable enough to use at your bedside table or in kitchen drawer or office drawer and also to take with you in your vehicle when you travel (using provided cable to secure it to car seat frame to discourage a grab and go thief). You cannot equate these portable pistol safes with a fullsize 1000lb fire resistant floor safe-they have different intended functions-and price and features reflect that difference.
