The Vauxhall Ampera is a brilliant solution to eco-friendly motoring. It's amazingly efficient, it completely eliminates range anxiety, and it's comfortable and relaxing to drive.
It's far from cheap to buy, and there's huge uncertainty over its residual values. The cabin plastics aren't particularly appealing and rear visibility is rubbish

Well it’s 2020, and Chevy volt/ Vauxhall ampera clocking up 200.000/400.000 miles, without issues. Incredible machine

The Ampera is marvellous to look at and it is extremely clever.

It is Opel Ampera in most countries isn't it? Isn't Vauxhall the same as Opel nowadays. Between them they have produced excellent cars.

@fisioserv Developement costs maybe? It is ridiculous isn't it, when a normal petrol Astra will cost what, £14000 perhaps. You're going to have to own your ampera for a very long time before you get the difference back!

I think it looks stunning and is really the way forward. I will definately buy one when it comes out! Especially with the rising cost of fuel. Hopefully the government will offer some tax incentives to make it really affordable!

GM should have really pushed this car!!!!!!!!!! and sold the 2017 version in europe too. So frustrating.

That's more or less what I said! These 'green' cars are not very 'green' at all and they're way too expensive! What made you think I was an exponent of these cars?

Really, don't lie. The Ampera isn't built in the UK yet, and it's stupid as well to slander the very car that GM has invested billions on and is expected to save the whole company, and to keep you employed. If those batteries do go, there's no denying that replacing a faulty module is just as effective and cheaper than replacing a whole battery. If you do work for GM, give me any sort of official information that the battery must be replaced after the 8 or 10 year warranty.

Oh right, and Vauxhall holds its residual value? No. And the Ampera will be out dated in 2 years time… so have fun with seeing your money going down the pan!:)

Stop talking nonsense. Get some facts that aren't from an entertainment show! If you bothered to do any research, both Nissan and GM said that if the battery looses 30% of battery capacity after 10 years, or if the battery lost a significant amount of power overnight, what they can do is replace a module which would've caused the problem. A module would be £400. If you get a car from Renault, anything that happens the battery can be fixed or swapped for free as there's a monthly battery charge.
