Is the Vauxhall Corsa the must-have small family car? Well, let’s find out!
Mat’s got his hands on the Vauxhall Corsa-e, and he’s going to run you through everything you need to know in this in-depth review.
For starters, there is a choice of three different petrol engines. They’re all 1.2-litres, starting from 75hp and raising to 130hp if you choose the range-topper. However, there’s also an all-electric version available, which is powered by a single motor to deliver 136hp.
In terms of price, the entry-level petrol-powered Corsa is pretty affordable, at £17,000. However, should you choose to go all-electric, you’ll have to splash out a bit more, which prices starting from £27,000!
In terms of design, the Corsa is a pretty good looking car from the outside, looking relatively sleek from the front, and with the more expensive models come with the option to choose a contrasting black roof! On the inside, you’ll generally find good quality materials throughout the cabin, although the infotainment system isn’t all that good.
So should you choose the Corsa over competitors like the Skoda Fabia or Peugeot 208? You’ll have to stick with Mat to find out!

I have the 130 hp 8spd AT from 2020. It costed me 19.5k € back then. The 0-100 is around 8.5s so a little bit slower. But as with all electric cars this one would loose its power at higher speeds so i am pretty sure that past something like 120 km/h it would be slower. Also i can do 700-750 km (around 450 miles) when driving normaly which this electric car can only dream about.

Hi, I have the opel version (the same just brand badging) and for the “funny” reaction of the brake pedal it comes from the fact that for the first cm of the pedal it will just use an increasing rate of breaking generation and than the physical brake system will suddenly “kicks” in when you press further on the pedal. So you can manage to stop the car gently only using the “break pedal assist regenerating breaking” if you concentrate enough of the way you press on the break pedal! 🤣🤣🤣

I drove one of these as a courtesy car. I'm not super tall (6") but i COULD NOT find a driving position that worked. My knee ALWAYS hit the steering wheel when coming off the clutch. Could not understand how they managed that. I had the seat as low as it goes, the wheel as high as it goes. I had 2 options, either have the seat so far back that i was reaching for the pedals (not safe) or to cock my leg to the side when coming off the clutch. Also I don't have abnormally large feet (size 9) but there was NOT SPACE in the footwell for my feet. There wasn't enough room to the left of the clutch for my shoes which meant it was possible to clip the clutch when resting my feet.... Cannot recommend for slightly-larger-than-average men.

I’m on my 2nd CorsaE through the VX Employee scheme (family member). On the whole Matt’s review is fair, the single biggest failure of the car for me is the battery range. In winter the range is reduced by around 20% and that’s before you start using stuff like heated seats and steering wheel etc. I’ve never had a full charge of more than 195 miles. The trim level is good and the profile setting allows for the car to be set up for different drivers but there are areas where the French arm of PSA (now Stelantis)have got the upper hand with trim level and looks. Overall the car is a joy to drive and for commuting this type of vehicle should be a no brainier but the showroom price is ridiculous for a car that can realistically only accommodate two adults.
@Tresla
@Tresla 2 жыл бұрын
For me, it's quite a bit worse. It's more like half the range in the winter. I couldn't get 100 miles this past winter, whereas I'm getting closer to 180 during the summer months.
@Tresla

The brakes are also very spongy. Because of the regen braking, it's hard to judge how much pressure to apply, because you're not actually applying pressure to anything - It's all electronic. And the transition between the regen braking and the physical brakes leaves a lot to be desired.

I own the Petrol version of the Corsa. Had that Aisin 8-speed's TCU tuned, and the 0-60 timings dropped from 8.7 seconds to 8.0 seconds. After that did a stage 1 ECU tune from 130hp & 230nm to 165hp & 260nm. 0-60 dropped from 8.0 seconds to 7.4 seconds. TCU tune resulted in the clutch lockup being just as fast a ZF 8HP's, but still drives as comfortably without any significant change to the shift pattern and logic. But it is less sluggish even without the stage 1 tune. It is a fun car when you optimise the gearbox and a slight boost pressure increase for the turbocharger.

They have today suggested it could be at least 6 months to get the part which is £1.800. The car is 9 months old now. From what i can make out its a common fault. Nobody seems to know what their doing to diagnose and repair. Ive had to fight with Vauxhall as they tried to blame me for the fault, yet if you take a electric car on a motorway and you need to charge, (and you will if going any distance) most of the charging ports are broken because the pins have pushed back, this must damage the charging port on the car if your the unfortunate one to be using it at that point. I did love it, now i cant wait to get rid of it, and im dreading the government’s electric car plans.

A couple of months ago one of these Corsa-e's broke down whilst turning into our village at a T junction , it couldn't be moved. It blocked one lane & a few villagers actually directed the traffic for around 5 hours before it could be put onto a low loader by the AA. My question is what would of the consequences be if this had happened on a motorway, dual carriageway or some similar busy fast moving road ? It really doesn't bear thinking about, it's put me right off EVs.

@artemis83
@artemis83 2 жыл бұрын
I own one, almost identical to the one in the review (apart of the color and the left drive, and of course the brand, because it's Opel) and I actually find it better than its Peugeot sister. It may be less fancy (it is), but they are basically identical in terms of usage, behaviour and spaces, and the interiors of the Corsa are far more practical than the 208. The seat position, without that mini steering wheel of Peugeot, is better and more adjustable, the options are the same, and the screen behind the steering is far more readable than the one on the 208. Basically, with the Corsa you are not losing anything except of flavour against the 208, and between the two I've chosen the Corsa. There are not many options of electic-decently-powered-non-suv-b-segment cars. Two of them are the Corsa and the 208, and I think the Corsa is preferable unless you really like the 208 aesthetic.

@artemis83 2 жыл бұрын
@@chickenfortress7956 actually no because the Leaf is half meter longer and it doesn't even fit into my box. I see it more like a C segment car, mostly comparable with the VW id.3. Anyway I think is a good car, I've driven the 62Kwh version and it's kind of brilliant. I'm planning to give my Corsa to my dad in next 2 or 3 years when I'll change apartment, so the Leaf may become an option afterall. :)

@@artemis83 I test drove it this weekend, hence why I am asking. I have decided to wait until next year to jump on the electric car train but ultimately considering everything under similar price range out there at the moment I would not go for anything else other than the leaf.
@artemis83
@artemis83 2 жыл бұрын
@@chickenfortress7956 I agree it's a reasonable thinking of yours. If you consider what's out there on the market, we have still far too many spots without any choice for electric cars. Assuming that id.3/Born are not suitable because, come on, they have soooo many issues and vw is really struggling with software, on the segment we have the Leaf, the e-c4 (which is kind of suv anyway and it's another Corsa/208 powertrain), the new upcoming Mégane and the still non-existent-but-annouced 308/Astra, which again, it's Stellantis so we are not moving away to different technology. The rest are suv, and otherwise we have to jump directly to the Model 3, a 4.70ish meter long car. So I agree with you, in value for money the Leaf is an absolute bargain, and it's maybe the best option still in the next future.

@@jousis_exactly has the car slowing quicker. And when you are in Eco with only 80 ps it can feel like a right dud. So leaving in b might suit some but for me it just gets shifted to B if slowing for corners without braking. D is often used in town for the lighter steering if the more instant acceleration is not needed. The heavier steering in Sport is fine out of town. Or when not doing lots of tighter turns. So many choices to suit situations.

I have used this car a few times in london as part of the "Zipcar" fleet (car sharing) - it is generally good to drive but not going to lie, I noticed the break pedal issue as well and it's quite annoying - also, it almost feels that it has a similar issue with the steering, especially in tight spaces (car parks etc.) it feels like it is adjusting the steering by itself with small automatic movements... it's not bad overall but it falls behind other competitors such as Toyota, Volkswagen and Peugeot.

Never noticed any brake pedal issue cos I was so focused on that terrible steering, its constantly overcorrecting on the straight and then once you try and turn it turns to jelly, and then you have to overcorrect it yourself. @@Brian-om2hh sadly I think you’re wrong. Have a look at what a 5 year old Leaf is worth compared to its price new. There won’t be any 15 year old EV’s around as they’re spent by then. How many lithium powered items do you have older than that? All cars hold their price at the moment which has nothing to do with EV or ICE. EV depreciation will be terrible once the government realise they can’t afford the lack of road tax and the silly unnecessary incentives.
