I know how to do an oil change, I don't have a vectra.... But I still watch your videos!
@packofhounds6 жыл бұрын
Hi Martin. Even with those sideways filters, I've found that filling them just enough to absorb the oil and saturate the internal filter element will still give the filter a headstart but not run out of the filter when you install. Actually, even a 1/4 or 1/3 filled won't run out if you're quick.
@retrorestore6 жыл бұрын
To be honest, it doesn't really matter but I take your point.
@matthewking56122 жыл бұрын
I do that, I also fill via the outer holes, so it's filtered.

My uncle used to work at a Vauxhall Dealership. He said if the Z18XE burns more than a litre of oil between 10-12k intervals it had a hard beginning to life, probably an ex rental.
@forevercomputing6 жыл бұрын
Whilst you're there, clean the leaves, check the condition of the belts, check any rubber hoses for cracking, check coolant levels, PAS fluid, washer fluid, battery terminals, etc. Pretty much whilst waiting for the engine to drain.
@retrorestore6 жыл бұрын
Yes but this video is for changing the oil and filter so when people search KZfaq for info on filter and oil change on the Vectra, that's what they get.

Martin, have you ever considered getting OP COM/VAUX COM. It is handy for diagnostics and clearing fault codes. You can even program stuff like keys. I got mine on eBay for £20. I wish I'd bought it when I had the Astra G (Mk 4). I can use it on both the Vectra and the Corsa.

This'll give you a grin. Think you know I've had my Clio for 18 years now. Book says 10,000 miles but for a few years I did it at 6000, filter every 2. Time before last I filled with a half full 5ltr can. Before I've always just put 5ltrs in. Well I couldn't see the clean oil on the mark, put miles too much in so had to drain some lol. Year last September they only had synthetic so put that in. Only did about 5000 miles so left it this year. Better oil, so better to leave it.
@retrorestore6 жыл бұрын
Haha, you need some new glasses then Malc lol
@forevercomputing6 жыл бұрын
It's either 10K or yearly. Some people only go by mileage.
@MalcOfLincoln6 жыл бұрын
LOL Martin.....won't make that mistake again.

@MalcOfLincoln6 жыл бұрын
Couple of thousand won't hurt. It's when they've done 60,000 plus and the sludge bungs the inlet filter that you have a problem. Quite a few years ago, one came into the garage that the sump plug was rusted in.....never had an oil change since the first service it had when new.
@TheCarRestorer9576 жыл бұрын
Good Video my vans burning oil on start up but I’m not going to rip the top of the engine just to fit a few new valve stem seals if it burns oil heavily when driving then all do it then
@brianpercival18296 жыл бұрын
Good instructional video Martin. But, how many people change their own oil? Or, if they change oil at all. Sometimes we get coupons in the mail for 20% off an oil change at a local garage. If you build up some work with a local, if a big repair comes up and you're a regular customer, they go easy on the bills. But I know you make these videos to show people it's not hard to do yourself.

Brilliant video Martin! excellent engines the 1.8's, bought a Vauxhall insignia 2 years ago couldn't bear to let my vectra go so I kept it and is getting used more than the insignia and with the amount of miles I do for work its nearly at 200K. oil changes every 5000 miles, best think you can do I believe!
@retrorestore6 жыл бұрын
Yes, its a reliable motor and I hope for many more miles James.
@mistery00t295 жыл бұрын
In my opinion is better car than insignia, I had 4 vectras,yesterday bought 2008 1.8 Insignia is nice,prety,but that comfort you dont really get! Is exactly the same engine I think on insignia and vecra c last model...some small bites are different,both of them having problems with overheating,I dont know why...

Martin, I've done a service on a 2004 Vectra 1.8 petrol which has pretty much the same engine. (Z18XE)kzfaq.info/get/bejne/btKnaall0N-4kXk.html You shouldn't just rely on the trolley jack. Axle stands or wheel ramps are safer. NEVER use tools to tighten the oil filter. ALWAYS do it by hand. Other than that you're spot on with your oil and filter change.
@retrorestore6 жыл бұрын
I know all about Jacking cars up and using Axle stands but I just took the jack up about 3 inches off the springs so It was not an issue. If you see, I didn't actually lay under the car, it was just to get a bowl in easier. Some people can't grab an oil filter so the plastic spanner wrenches are a safe bet in these situations as you can't apply too much force to them or they will break. Thank you for your concern though.
@Marks-Garage6 жыл бұрын
I find do the filter up by hand and then nip it up with the tool, not enough that you damage the paint on the replacement filter. Doing it up by hand only is an engine fire waiting to happen. Seen far to many cars where the filter works loose. Infact there is probably an adapter and a torque specification for the oil filter. Great video as always!
