I've worked in the fast fit industry for years and I can assure you that back box has loose baffles and is sub standard. Take it back and get him to replace it as it shouldn't be like that. Best of luck and Merry Christmas to you and your family.

It's a manufacturing fault within the back box I've had the exact same issue in the past and had loads of hassle trying to get it changed

Sounds like lose baffles in the back box. This sometimes happens because the back box/muffler is cheap. You will need to replaced this and I would take it to a different exhaust shop or maybe fit one yourself. Hope you manage to get this fixed . Thanks for the awesome content stay safe and take care

It's not over fueling it's baffles no back pressure

I think you can hear a mechanical clacking sound before the popping starts. Tap the box on the seam with a rubber or wooden hammer to see if anything is loose and rattling inside the box.

Had exactly the same problem with excatly the same car yesterday. I got some heat into it last night and it's sorted.

This sometimes when you have a new exhaust system it needs to carbon up and it should be fine

Take back box off and see if it gone, also check aircon for leaks, nothing worse than something that does your nut in mate, hope you get it sorted.

Have you tried to tap it gently with a rubber mallet? Any loose intestants will hopefully start speaking...

Iv got the 1.8 thay do crackling and pop a bit I have a backbox delete so mine crackle and Pops a lot now but ya be for a little but never on just revving it only driving so most ov the comments are bang on mate defo the baffles in the back box there just trying it mate dont have it

I'd say they've used a cheap back box and its the baffles, it may get better with use, but I wouldn't be happy if that was my car, I'd take it for a second opinion and get a report done. I wouldn't remove anything yourself incase you have to take it back again and they void the warranty,

The consensus from Guys that know about exhausts is that its the baffles - lets hope so. IF it's not then I'm gonna guess the Cat might be broken? if they took a hammer to the system when removing it might have fractured it.... hope you and the family are keeping well martin. had the same problem on our ford petrol engine motor it was making a burbling noise just like that no fault codes no engine management lights but live data showed up spark advance was erratic. swapped out cam position sensor and all is well.

I had the same problem with rattles while the car was in motion. Turned out to be that heatshield on the car body around the rear box. The clips get rusty, fall off and the shield flaps in the wind. My problem was cured with new clips and resecuring the heatshield.

Sounds like it’s still blowing on the back box connector pipe it’s not sealed they haven’t put enough sealant on it to go it off and Seal it and it’s got the wrong rear silencer box aswell there are two models on the rear box silencer

I agree with everyone else saying it's a cheap exhaust with lousy baffles. I had the same on my BMW 320 had the new exhaust put on sounded just like yours plus a rattle. I had it replaced did the same, the exhaust fitter refused to do anymore saying it was my motor at fault. So we came to an agreement I went to another exhaust fitter put on another exhaust and if it didn't rattle and burble he would give me my money back (he still wanted the exhaust back) so put a totally different exhaust on and it was fine and I got my money back

if the baffles arent rattling about, its fine, its just a cheap exhaust. overrun popping is totally normal, if you want a quieter back box, pay more money.

i would say inspect the joins , could possible be down to different style of backbox but thats still way loud , get a DB tester on phone and check how loud it is at 5grand ,also is all the heat shield not touching as sure i could hear the rattle that makes as well

I'm no expert, however it sounds like baffles, however if it's been replaced, I'd say the cat is breaking down (won't always throw a fault code).

Deff sounds like the back box , some if the boy racers prob like that noise. Prob is baffles loose should of shook the one that came off it bet sounds like cement rolling around inside. Keep us informed on the outcome we can't have Sharon driving that she will get a headache 😉

It’s the gas flow being restricted by the baffles building up back pressure then when you shut off the pressure is releasing giving the popping sound. Just poor baffle flow and not as it should be. You can’t beat OE when it comes to exhaust replacement or a good named aftermarket company like powerflow etc - I’m sure an email to a few companies might get you a free system if you make them a promotion video 👍 good luck.

Buggered baffles had you baffled ! Buy a Bosal......... Had the same issue in the past and the aggro getting it changed, that was many years ago, now I only buy Bosal and fit it myself with a Bosal fitting kit, they lady ages by the way...

Baffles slightly loose in the box as everyone else says. Up to you really, put up with it and hope that as it ages and the carbon builds it quietens or press for a replacement which probably wouldn't be any better as it'll be the same brand. If it's not leaking and isn't too offensive I'd live with it, if it's bad it'll fail within the year anyway and you'll get a warranty replacement.

Was the original exhaust changed in August the original stainless steel system?that's a poor quality exhaust cheaply made and sometimes leak at the seams!would cost more but might be worth fitting a stainless steel system

That's definitely the baffles in the back box take it back and ask for a different make back box I brought a cheap one on eBay once sounded just like that brought a more expensive one and it was spot on 👌

Hi Martin agree with others, its loose baffles in back box. Its poor quality I would ask that its changed for a different manufacturer one. If that's possible ot the whole system. It's not fit for purpose.

If it only started after the exhaust was fitted then surely it must be the exhaust. Engine sounds fine and only doing it when over running you have pointed out why you think its not overfueling and I agree . Although it would obviously sound louder it would be interesting to know if it still does it with the back box temporarily removed.

Yeah would say it just a cheaper exhaust my astra made same noise. Probably if you bought it from vauxhall maybe quiter. Don't think it anything to worry about Martin.

Mines does this too. I have the middle section straight through and that's still the note I get.it was the same on my Corsa c. The resonator rusts and blows inside stuff out. also if you check out the heat on blow out it's unusually hot,not by much but noticeable.

go in to your live data on the scanner . look at the fuel trims. if its adding fuel go round the joints with some brake clean and see if you can push the fuel trims higher . may be leak in the manifold

That's a cheap exhaust system, take it back and ask for another make to be fitted.

There is a loose baffle in that muffler . Cheap junk they use for big $$.. It pays off for the shop, but not the customer .. Bad deal Martin !

Sounds like the wadding in the back box has shifted from the baffle which might be causing some back pressure, or the moisture in the exhaust gases might be a issue ,I reckon go out for a good old boot in it and see if it clears up on its own before you go to the expense of replacing it 👍👍

Hi Martin I would first check with live data to see what the 02's and short term / long term fuel trims are doing. I had an old Cavalier that did the same thing and found that my upstream 02 (Pre cat) was shot!! I wouldn't dismiss a fuelling issue just yet.

Not enough restriction or back pressure. Some cars won’t really run well until there’s back pressure.

Visited the local exhaust place today and I'm lucky, this place makes exhausts while you wait, not you're usual Kwik fit rubbish. And they will make it exactly how you want it to sound from either ss or mild steel depending on your budget and they don't rip you off which is really unusual for us here in Ireland. Your back box looks cheap and tacky so you can only imagine what's inside it....

I’ve had that before, changed back box twice before it cured, exhaust fitters had a bad batch that had badly fitted baffles that came loose and moved position in the back box.

Loose baffes in the back box but opels and vauxhauls in general are a bit burbly. Might have sticky exhaust valves. Do this next bit kinda quick, take off the back box and run it without the box and see if it still burbles. Itll be much louder of course but youll get a rough idea of if the back box really is the issue. Mightnt be any harm to split the box and see if anything is loose inside. Some of the aftermarket exhausts come with a plasticky thing inside for packing reasons that takes ages to burn off because the back box doesnt get overly hot

Mine over fuels but hasn't pinged up the eml then again eml doesn't come on with all the problems mine has when I scan the car to check as it runs badly mine pops and bangs with standard exhaust and no remap

Duff after market back box or sometimes with new ones there's a bent piece of wire sticking out one side for hanging it up when manufactured it's pretty easy for it to get pushed in side the pipe and not notice when fitted my guess it's where middle section connect's to back box

My mums engine use to bounce and rattle and it use the exact same problem what you have with your exhaust

Most modern cars are set up for genuine Exhaust's so if the back box is smaller or larger internally the car won't run right it like putting a straight pipe on with no ecu modification the car needs to no what part is replaced but if its original parts then it don't matter for Example ive a kia carens 2.0 crdi original back box Exhaust from hyundai would cost £560 i went to a garage and they made a stainless steel one for £160 the car runs fine but have the same rasping even though its a diesel the guy at the garage said he could of tune it for £360 to make sound normal again i could of bought the new one for same money he didn't mention about the sound tell i got home hope this helps Martin merry Christmas to you and your family

If it didnt make that noise before and it was just leaking it has to be the back box but who knows martin the aftermarket quality is really crap these days its really hard to get cars repaired first time these days i had a faulty suspension leg and it took 4 garages over a period of 3 week to identify the issue i ended up buying one of ebay and it cured it

Hi Martin, It does sound strange but it’s not really the usual noise you get from problem exhaust, it’s doesn’t sound like it’s leaking or a rattle (strange noise) , you may be right it might just be the way it’s made. I’m interested to know the outcome🙂👍

I'm usually pretty good at diagnosing cars but this noise seems to have me Baffled. Must be the back box like others have said if the noise wasn't present before, and remove the rear section to pin point if the wafflely baffle is in that part.

had a replacement exhaust an Opel Ascona many years ago, it ruined the whole experience of driving, cheap quality, also it rotted the back box on a yearly cycle, the original system lasted for about 6 years. never bought from a tyre/exhaust centre again.

I have the same car with the same engine too, the back box is cheap copy no good ,Just had my full exhaust done.

That’s due to a cheap brand back box that isn’t double skinned and has a crap baffle in I had that exact problem on a Toyota Avensis

Can't hear it clear enough but usually when you get popping on overrun its air getting drawn in to exhaust. Only needs to be slightest pin hole leak in a joint or weld (get an assistant to hold a rag over tailpipe while you check by using a piece of hose as a stethoscope). Particularly check flexi and also around manifold (could be cracked & manifold constant with both exhausts). As already said remove back box to eliminate from suspicion. Dismiss the overfueling (unless they can give you facts!) as you said the engine light would have come on by now.

i had this with a cheap chinesium exhaust i bought for my bike, which was 70% cheaper than the factory exhaust, i only changed it because the chrome had pitted ,swapped it back and it was fine,i decided to live with it as the bike did sound like it had a bit more grunt

I think it's the backbox. My mondeo mk3 tdci just recently had this issue where the backboxs rear pipe (where air comes out) fell off because of rust I guess. (14 years old, what to expect - was the original) Somehow the cars turbo is faster to spinup plus might even be more economical now and also it sounds a lot better now :? I am going to get a new replacement because of danish mot laws, but will be sure to get a good quality one, because if you cheap out they do not last as long and you will end up like your vectra in a short time sadly.
