Vintage Computer Fest, or VCF, Midwest 17 was an absolute blast. So many things to see, so many people to meet and so many cool things to buy! This video covers a bit of the event but above all we'll go through what I grabbed this year.

Coooorn! LOL! A lot of great big box software in your pickups. I found the PCB shape of the Aureal Vortex AU8810 video card very interesting. Lots of curves. On the Macintosh front, you'll love the BlueSCSI. I have a few and they work great! "Stacking cards and moving stuff around. This is the retro life we chose" LOL! It's a hard knock life! I really like the form factor of the Acer Acros you picked up and looking forward to a dedicated video on that machine. Thank you for the shout-out as well. Great video!

Awesome! I never had a chance to play it but it looks really fun and draws comparisons to Command & Conquer quite easily.

Holy crap! That AcerAcros is the same 486 model I grew up using. Very nice find!

Nice Dell 2007 display, their VGA scaler is pretty good! And thanks for the shout out! I can't wait until next year's event, whatever form it may take by then 😀

I've been hunting for one of these for a while just from the pure utility! I'll have to pony up for a stand though, oh well hah. And for sure, was fun hanging out and definitely hope we get another chance next year!

Hah yeah true. There were so many unobtanium things just randomly shown off at the event it was hard to keep things straight. But an amazing opportunity to see them in person.

Your Yamaha card is by far one of the best PCI sound cards for DOS. It's soooo easy to configure in both Win98 & DOS and the fact that yours has a PC/PCI (or SB-Link) connector makes it a bit more compatible with older games (well if you plug it with a mobo that also has it ), the cherry on the cake :)

Some really nice pick-ups! Man... I remember Microsoft Works on my family's Compaq. It was so frustrating because it wasn't compatible with Office file formats, and any time I tried to use it for school or send the files to anyone, they couldn't open them. That Dell 2007FPb is the same monitor I use and maybe the best 4:3 LCD for the money.

Oh yeah I used to play with Works endlessly on my Compaq as well. Pie charts, bar charts... line charts... you name it! And I have had my eye on a 2007FBp for a long time, this was too good to pass up (minus the stand)!

I don’t know 98% of what you just said, but I am at least 98% sure that Acer is precisely what I had growing up at some point.

That same Yamaha XG sound card came with my dumpster dive PC. I did swap it out for a SoundBlaster 16 WavEffects PnP card just to make use of the ISA slots, but the XG chip definitely has a unique sound to it.

That Acer Acros is pretty cool. I hope you get it all up and running and get it all snazzy'd up and show it off. Love a good 486 machine. I had never heard of the Acros line, but in researching it, they apparently went all the way up to Pentium Socket 7 releases. Neat.

A hub is perfectly fine for a retro network. 10 Mbps is far more bandwidth then they could ever imagine using back then. I used to have one of those, but an 8 port we used for LAN parties in the 90s

Oh yeah definitely era appropriate and functional. I just prefer the more modern approach of 100 mbit switched, makes life easier haha.
