Superb, next we need an vector eraser and an image trace tool. After that we can completely say goodbye to Adobe Illustrator. Thank you Serif for letting us be creators not paiers.

Do you ever include “follow along” files so new folks can follow along, take pieces apart and see what's happening? Super helpful for those of us that are learning.

Although I love this content, I sure wish that when these tutorials are released, that Affinity would include a link to download source files so that we can practice along with the video. Please include files with future tutorial videos.

Is it just me or anyone else having issues with filling closed spaces? I have a few curves which are separate but overlapping to form a closed shape. I am selecting them all and trying to use the vector flood fill but it just refuses to highlight the closed shape :( It works when I have shapes like squares or circles which are overlapping but any closed shapes (like the flower design in this video) I am struggling to get the fill to work. Any tips?

Same here. All my vectors connect, yet I can't do a simple fill. Looking into this.

The tool is in the program but there is an error in windows that does not show the icon, if you use the "R" keyboard shortcut you can try it, hopefully this will be fixed in an update soon

Just reset the tool bar by going into View, then Customize Tools, then finally Reset.

would love to see video on how you made the shapes. Looking at the layers panel they all look like curves. They appear to be two doughnuts and one rectangle not placed on a standard grid.

Shapes can be made using the shape builder tool. 4 circles 1 rectangle. Select all, turn on shape builder tool, select all parts and click on create a new shape for the large orange shape. Then select the top 2 circles, turn on shape builder, select a donut shape, click on create a new shape, this creates the top donut. Then select the bottom 2 circles, turn on shape builder, select a donut shape, click on create a new shape to create the bottom donut. Now you can delete the old unused shapes. If you need help with the awesome Shape Builder tool, youtube has some great videos on using it.

The two created donuts need to have invisible fill and black stroke. To convert the rectangle to curves, select it then go to Layer menu, scroll about 2/3 of the way down on the popup panel until you see Expand Stroke. Then click on Expand Stroke. In the layers box next to the rectangle is should now say curves. On my screen it is hard to see but the order of the layers is the top donut, the rectangle, the bottom donut, the orange pill shape. Hope this helps. --- UPDATE. Sorry the rectangle is curve not curves. So just create the rectangle then in the menu bar click on Convert to Curves.

Is there not a standard fill tool that actually… you know… works? If I make a space with several different strokes then that space should be fillable… to not have something do ridiculously basic is astounding (unless there is such a tool and I haven’t found it).

I seem to have all shapes in same design and layers, but it just fills them in, it doesn't create a new shape for me. Ideas on how to fix? Update 1. figured it out. The curves donut, rectangle, donut, are stroke only no fill. // Update 2: when I did the in-between, & smart refill, I did get a new layer above the orange pill shape of a colored donut shape, but it also created 2 more layers, namely a curve of the outline of the pill shape and a blue rectangle with the bottom and 2 sides but no top. I then change my rectangle from a curves shape to a curve shape and tried again, this time it only made 2 new layers, namely an outline of the pill shape and a blue donut. BTW I'm working on a PC. Still working through replicating how to do same as video.

How do we set the tolerance of the fill tool so that small gaps are 'closed' and a fill can be applied?

This is nice idea, a little tricky to implement I'd guess but handy if it's do-able

Should be the default in Designer.
@thoughtsRpower Жыл бұрын
In the Swatches panel, just below recent colors, is a drop-down box that says Colours/Colors. If yours doesn't have the default Colours or Colors then click on the drop down and select it from the panel.

It doesn't seem to be in the Tools menu by default. Go to: View -> Customise Tools -> drag it onto your tools palette. (Toolbar is the one at the top, Tools is the one on the side, that this video shows. Not very clear!)

There are some good vector apps for android out there! I forgot the name though :/ i feel you, I remember trying to make art with a stylus on my phone at first too, it's an ok start but you should start looking into some kind of computer or iPad to advance your art. Look into vector ink, infinite design, infinite painter, etc
