A Facebook group that I follow had a question about creating a shadow analysis for a site. In response I've made this movie. It shows how to create a solo study or a shadow analysis using the Heliodon tool. You can place several of these in your drawing and choose which ones will appear in each viewport.

Here´s a question; is it possible to split site models? At the moment I have a large site area from which I have already created a site model. However, as off now I only need to work with smaller area and I wonder if its possible to split the site model and move the other parts to separate layers or file for later use. If there is a way of doing this, I would love to hear more. Thank you.

I would have to check, I’ve never spilt one. I know that you can crop the site model. If you want a smaller area of the site model, right-click on it and choose Edit Crop. Draw the shape that y want for the new crop area and delete the old one. Exit the Edit Site Model Crop and the site model will be smaller.

Hi Jonathan. I went to document preferences and use the same settings in order to get shadows on plan view but nothing seems to happen. Am I missing something ?

This is great, thanks Jonathan. Do I need to set up the site model in any locational way, or is it enough to make sure North is "up" on the page? I seem to be having problems with my Heliodons working.

You should set the Heliodon to the North of your location plan, and then inside the heliodon preferences you can select the time and date, but the heliodon should always be set to north as your location plan. I do use several heliodons to do other presentations styles but for a rigorous sun path analysis you have to use the north of the site. Hope this helps! :)

Some people rotate the site so that the project is square on the page, but you can rotate the view to suit the project and save the view.

@@archoncad I usually use the tool to save a view if i need to rotate the site so i won't mess with the location plan that was imported with the correct coordinates! I don't know the name of that tool next to the save views icon that you can make the "sheet" turn and not the import so everything keeps nice and tidy. On the sheet i just rotate the viewport to my taste to fit properly! :)

This could be added to your template. And you can add the command to update all viewports to the right mouse button.
