I've tried this method with a couple of files imported from dwg with different results. The first was OK, it behaved pretty much the same way as you show. The second one after selecting "2d polys to 3d source data" and fill the starting values and hit OK all curves appear with "fill" so a complete white area covers everything, no text can be read and no curve highlights in red making it impossible to confirm values in the text box. I've tried keeping text and curves as different classes and "curves" class with no fill but it is always as described. Any suggestions?

Thanks, can you create a model from points alone? As on large developments there will be many spot points; not neccessarily all contours.

This is great! but I have a question, what do I do when my terrain is not a square or rectangle and want to make a site model with the shape of an irregular polygon? Every time I try the model ends up in some weird shapes. Thanks!

The easiest way to control this is likely the Site Model Crop. If you double click on a site model, you will get that as one of the edit options and you can add an irregular polygon, as long as its just a single object. This model was rectangular since the contours I imported had already been cropped out, but it could be cropped further if desired. Make sure you don't try to use the contours themselves to try and define the edges of the site model or you may get some very strange results.

Right Click out the site model and edit the site model cropped boundary, which is generated when creating the site model

Hi there. I'm having trouble connecting polygons together - the just won't 'compose'. When I zoom in really close, the two polygons are disconnected, and the ends are not meeting at all. Is there a way to fix this without having to manually adjust every single contour line?

If they aren't actually connected, you can TRY scaling up all the contour lines (assuming this is a survey import?) a very small amount, something like 1.005 and then they will have enough overlap for compose or add surface to work on them to get contiguous polys, but that can sometimes cause problems of its own. Without clean survey inputs a lot of manual work can be required. Check with tech@vectorworks.net and have them take a look as well.

You neglected to explain the very last command "create site model" in the AEC menu. There is no such command in my drop down. The closest command is AEC>Terrain>create site model volume list...no clue if thats right or not. Doesn't seem like it from the name.
