Swami Sarvapriyananda teaches Verses 38-39 from the third chapter of the Bhagavad Gita. This series of talks unfolds the highest truths of Vedanta through the study of "The song of God".
🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 3, Verse 38:
धूमेनाव्रियते वह्निर्यथादर्शो मलेन च |
यथोल्बेनावृतो गर्भस्तथा तेनेदमावृतम् || 38||
dhūmenāvriyate vahnir yathādarśho malena cha
yatholbenāvṛito garbhas tathā tenedam āvṛitam
🔴Just as fire is obscured by smoke, a mirror by dirt and embryo by the womb, so is knowledge by craving.
🔆Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 3, Verse 39:
आवृतं ज्ञानमेतेन ज्ञानिनो नित्यवैरिणा |
कामरूपेण कौन्तेय दुष्पूरेणानलेन च || 39||
āvṛitaṁ jñānam etena jñānino nitya-vairiṇā
kāma-rūpeṇa kaunteya duṣhpūreṇānalena cha
🔴Knowledge, O son of Kunti, is obscured by this persistent foe of the knower, i.e. by craving, as by an insatiable fire.

15:39 for sadhakas and sadhikas, desire is the enemy. For a moorkha, chasing and satisfying desire is happiness, and when the bad result comes, then feels sorrow. The jnani even while feeling and pursuing desire knows it is not good.

@ 20 minutes ...Swamiji answers the oft repeated question about " Krishna encouraging war..." Swamiji counters by saying that Gita is a "Moksha shastra " !!!!! Thank you for further elucidations so required as so often we fail to recognise this fact and are at loss to explain it to sincere seekers ....in his words " it's a manual for spiritual life hence its perennial interest for Hindus" 🙏🏻

I just thought of sharing my view regarding the question asked by Girishji regarding the righteous war. i completely agree with Swamiji that Bhagvad Gita is a Moksha shastra. i think that rather than referring to Bhagvad Gita alone, the person should refer to Mahabharata. The reason is that it shows in great detail what caused the war and how and why people failed to prevent it. If we take lessons from there, we will be able to prevent the wars using the principals outlined in the Bhagvad Gita. Therefore it is very very important to be conscious that Bhagvad Gita was taught in the middle of the battle field. This is my humble view. thank you, pranam

27:36 It is not about a civil war or half mythical or anything ... no it's not because in the Gita the whole question of war disappears very quickly. Entire Gita is about spirituality and mind and nothing violent.

While Gita is all about Moksha and what is the right way of leading life in Sansara & In Sansara you have to face WAR too. As I understood here on Face of it Based on the Mahabharata & even per Ramayana, PEACE is always "UTTAM" over everything thats why RAMA even at the last resort to avoid, sending Angad to get resolved the situation in a PEACEFUL manner . Also Krishna too tried to resolve it peaceful manner by asking only 5 Villages though both knew that a KIngdom Run by RAVANA or Duryodhana would leave a legacy that will damage the whole society & ultimately it will lead to the destruction of Humanity and people who under their Kingdom. When your Woman SISTERS/MOTHERS are insulted in such a de human way, children get killed, Men are slaughtered, and women sold as salves, then you just can sit back & say PEACE is the best option...

Sarva's answer to the question at the end -- material possessions & achievements doesn't carry fwd with us into next life but spiritual growth does. Correct. But, I'm a new person in next life, coz I will not remember anything of this life, as the content moves from conscious to unconscious memory layer after death. So, by growing spiritually now, it'll be like I'll be helping into a smooth spiritual path for another person in next life, which is good as it is benefitting another person in the world, but the fact is that the person that I am now will not be benefitted from both worldly pursuits as well as spiritual pursuits after death.
