I train in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and I love the art and the system dearly, but your information on self-defense is extremely valuable, undisputable, and necessary for anybody who is serious about personal development, martial arts, and self-defense. Your videos provide real-life saving information.Thank you Professor Dave and Shihan Kenny. Oss!!

Professor David, The last part of the video where you talk about " Different ways of thinking " is some of the best commentary I've ever listened to: anywhere,anytime during the last 66 years! Your passion and the perfectly drawn examples you use like --the way someone dresses/the way they carry themselves/their physical appearance/ even their own success in life --all due to " Different ways of thinking." That is one of the most profound life lessons anyone could teach to others. You masterfully showed how that one change in mindset could mean the difference between life or death! You gave out some million- dollar- advice and wisdom to all of us in that short space of time. Thank you,Sir! Thank you professor and Kenny for all the good you're doing.

A different way of thinking is an advanced skill. Mastering your emotions and evolving your mindset is what all this about. Laziness will cause you pain, as the Professor says. MLK was looked at suspiciously for evolving the mindset of the day. You guys are trail blazers!

The big business BJJ community have had a hold on the Martial Art world. They fear street self defense Arts Will undermine the all mighty dollar. BJJ gyms require long term financial commitments with complex physical applications. I have yet to see any news footage of successful grappling defense against multiple attackers. For the life of me I'll never understand why the US military adopted BJJ as its hand to hand training. As a retired police officer in a very tough City I can attest, purposeful grappling to effect an arrest will only get officers injured or killed. The criticism of the Vee Arnis system is just another example of the deterioration of the fighting Arts due to the BJJ craze. Yours in the Arts, Stephen J. Gamma, Sensei

I saw your video in question and You are completely right. What you were presenting was very clear and does not show any disrespect to the Gracie family. Professor David you are the only person I have seen that is keeping it real. I feel so blessed that I found your channel because it changed my whole mindset. I am 60 years old and suffer with long term illness. Your teaching has for the first allowed me to feeling that with the right training and mindset I can defend myself from getting hurt. God bless you both for all the teaching Thank you 🙂👍

Mannnn, Professor David, you're going to make me use some cuss words! You dont have to explain yourself to these busters! I tell people often that grappling and the streets are different in mindsets. Anything goes in the streets and grappling training is limited in how they think when it comes to saving their lives in the streets! And hell yeah you should question the technics used to protect yourself. Too much fancy sh!t going on and there's no time to get fancy in a street attack! PERIOD!

Very valuable information Professor James and Sifu Kenny. I love the Gracie Jiu-jitsu system but it's not the end all be all. I've trained GJJ for years as well as Kenpo Karate, JKD, PTK Kali, as well as Krav Maga. As a martial artist and law enforcement officer, I need to cover all my bases to survive and win the fight. I have been following your content for a while and I am about to invest in learning your system. Bows and Respects.

I began my journey in the martial arts with my father, teaching me boxing in a garage. Later, I studied Tae Kwon Do, Chinese Kempo, traditional Northern Chinese Praying Mantis Kung Fu; and with exposure to escrima and Jeet Kune Do. In my library, you will find books written by Bruce Lee, Danny Inosanto and others. But at sixty six and a half years old, you have opened my eyes. When I watch your videos, I am left truly speechless. You drag the truth out into the bright light for all to see. Unless a person is someone who has been around a while, they most likely cannot grasp just how precious the wisdom is that you are sharing and how rare the opportunity to receive such instruction and guidance. Listeners need to come to understand fully that there are people out there who would no more hesitate to take a life than they would be to pick a flower. I have not been faithful to my training and have relegated myself to spectator for a long time now. I am older, have a partially torn quad and degenerative tendinitis. But your videos have pulled me back into my training and I feel a calling to study your way of thinking. All that I can say is Thank You, Professor.

People out in the MA community pledge allegiance to whomever they follow. All of these fatherless children don’t understand how to think objectively about anything. If it’s flashy they are on it. If it’s cool they love it. It’s the same thing they do with the Ummah Fight Camp. If it’s too real they doubt it.

A little shock. If the aggressor is strong and outweighs the person on the wall there is no way that slip move is going to work. That's fantasy. Say the aggressor is flying on anger and adrenaline or drugs. Try the slip and the result will be disastrous. But if you kick them. Use motion causes motion. Rake them, bite them, hammer them, break knees. Then you have a chance. Feel good, soft moves won't save your life. Savagery will. Well thought actions that are brutal and effective win. The effective techniques here taught by Professor and Kenny work.

It's absolutely insane to think you can do some technique and get your attacker to back off because he's so impressed by your skillful evade. He will not stop attacking you unless and until you disable him to a point where he cannot physically attack you anymore. Great job keeping it real Professor!

If you feel as if something is going to happen you make it happen and go all in and you do not stop. You strike first, quick, and precise. The street and being in a ring are 2 different things. U can't kick to the groin or rake eyes. Self defense is the art of getting it done as FAST as possible. Not going through multiple techniques and twists. Self defense is survival plain and simple. No cuteness about it. The grip of a 300 lb. Man still won't be broken by her technique. She'll have to squirm just to free one hand if man knows what he's doing. I got daughters and I teach them self defense. Not style.

A perps will to harm is already determined and elevated to a level of certain harm towards their victim, and in any situation the attacker aggression is way beyond the victims defensive system due to surprise, this holds true even with we as law enforcement officers and we expect violent encounters, but the perpetrator is already at a level above, so the bottom line is to respect everyone's art. I have been trained in Hapkido, Taekwondo, Basic Level Grappling, Basic Boxing Skills, and with all this training over 21 years, the streets have never yield a perfect scenario, though each of these tools do work in some form or fashion there is always a place for another tool and you Professor provided that in each of your videos. You only receive hate when you're doing well add someone else my feel emotional defeat. Keep teaching!!!

Yes Im old and have been lazy lately, but you have rejuvenated my mind. I thank you for your motivation. I will spread you and your techniques with my fellow practitioners. I have always believed in self-defense and have trained with numerous well-known instructors . You are real. I live in Florida and if I'm up that way I will look foward to meeting you. The word on the streets is that, it is said a black man taught the Gracie's early on they. (the gracies) acknowledged that this black man taught them (or the older gracie family members) their stuff but later they started claiming it themselves. The black guys name was Woldemer (or something close to that name spelling) but they don't wanna touch that information.
@complexblackness
@complexblackness 6 ай бұрын
Nah It was Maeda a Japanese Judoka who taught the Gracies. The man you're talking about is Waldemar Santana, he was a student of Helio. He and Helio had a falling out, he later challenged Helio and beat him. Then he ended up fighting I believe Carlson. They fought to a draw and fought again with Carlson winning the second time Waldemar wasn't even born when Maeda original taught the first Gracie.
@SurviveProtect
@SurviveProtect 6 ай бұрын
@@complexblackness - Check with a black martial artist named Balogun Ojetarde. He has a KZfaq channel as well and gave details on Santana being the one who taught the early Gracie's. It was even mentioned that one of the Gracie's who was in his 20's, celebrated finally beating a 60 year old martial artist that none of them could beat until this person got in his 60's. So the "Gracie jujitsu" is cool but not the end all be all. There's much more simpler and more violently ruthless things one could do when attacked in the streets.
@complexblackness
@complexblackness 6 ай бұрын
@SurviveProtect Waldemar Santana wasn't old enough to teach them. So you and Balogun are saying that Waldemar was before Mitsuyo Maeda? That's not even possible considering that Waldemar was born around 1929. Mitsuyo Maeda was born in 1878. Carlos Gracie- 1902 Helio Gracie- 1913 So how could Waldemar teach them when they are much older and had already learned, Judo from Maeda? Chronologically it makes no sense. Speaking of Balogun, I have one of his books.

Hey Professor Dave, Happy New Year! You are doing a wonderful job educating the public on real, very practical self offense. The person from the Gracie Ju jitsu family that made the negative comment on you being a so called self defense specialist, is very wrong! I watched a clip of you giving respect and praise to the Gracie Jui jitsu family! You definitely do not deserve that from nobody, regardless of their martial arts rank or otherwise. Obviously that particular Jujitsu family made that totally wrong comment about you is having a problem with how real you are. You just pointed out a few flaws in the Gracie Jujitsu system. As all martial arts styles do have flaws in them. Bruce Lee emphasized this point back in the sixties and received many hateful comments and even threats! That same particular Gracie family member can benefit greatly by the self offense advice you gave. The self offense techniques you demonstrated in this clip can be very useful one day in a highly violent street altercation for that same Juijitsu family member on the street one day! I absolutely love each and every clip of your self offense material! The self offense you teach is perfect for today's crazy times! Keep up the great work of keeping the public safe in these scary times we are living in! I want to learn self offense directly from you because what you teach is golden, and priceless. Right now, im working 10 hours five days a week and sometimes longer. And im in a very tight spot financially, but as soon as my financial situation improves, i will be contacting you to train me directly. I wish you the very best success and the best of luck with your Vee AJ Jujitsu school and with your self offense efucational You Tube videos.

Very good lesson given about the danger of pushing your method while implying that others are "so-called". BJJ is great for what it does but the idea that a female can break free from an agressive male using the rotate elbow method on both arms is not only foolish, but dangerous. As the true expert demonstrates convincingly you need to add additional combatives and be as savage as a mother bear defending her cubs. And you still may lose, the real world is very chaotic and unpredictable.
