as someone who eats a ton of soy mock meat that needs to be hydrated, a very nice way to hydrate them to remove the soy "taste" is with boiling water, lemon juice and vinegar. allow them to soak for at least 25 minutes in the mix, and use the acids generously. then squeeze the liquid out, and rinse under running water, squeeze again and repeat this process about two times. it works for any preparation that requires soy curls or chunks!!

hiii what does using the acids generously mean? does that mean i save the liquid after squeezing it then use it in the recipe?
@itslina65003 жыл бұрын
@@soscarlet it just means using a lot! for a cup of soy i usually do am entire lemon squeezed and about 5 tablespoons of vinegar. that makes the soy really neutral in taste and ready to absorb any spices you use

@MaryDavidson9113 жыл бұрын
I make something similar to this with the soy curls. It’s called peppered “beef” and served on rice. Has lots of green bell peppers, onions and garlic with also soy sauce. Then use soy curls like you do here. It’s YUMMY. Soy curls are sooo good.

What a great and easy recipe! I find soy shreds at our local Asian market, which are very much like Butler's soy curls. They've got a slightly different texture, but cook the same way. This might be an option if you've got a local Asian market you shop from!

Sooooooo happy I stumbled across this recipe! Just recently discovered the soy curls and I am making more and more delicious dinners using this modest soy product. We no longer eat at Chinese restaurants (because of high oil content and because I suspect they use chicken broth in their dishes) and I really, really, really have missed this dish. So thank you ever so much for sharing your talents with a growing vegan community. Delicious!

She's using soy curls, not beef. It is vegan imitation beef. You would have known that if you had watched the video
@TheFettuck3 жыл бұрын
@@RogueAstro85 Why do you want to imitate the results of animal cruelty? It is very hypocritical to associate vegan recipes with the results of animal cruelty (killed cows). Vegan recipes are made with plants and fungi. All vegan recipes should be named after the included plants and fungi.
@RogueAstro853 жыл бұрын
@@TheFettuck Because most of us weren't raised vegan and still enjoy the taste and texture of animal products and are okay recreating them from plants without the cruelty. Also, calling this "'Beef' and Broccoli" instead of "Soy curls and Broccoli" will allow non-vegans to be more open to trying vegan meals if they can see that they can go vegan without having to stop eating the flavors and textures that they currently enjoy. Recipes like this are what helps people transition to veganism instead of telling them that they have to only eat whole plants. If you don't like recipes that imitate meat and dairy with vegan versions, then find other channels that don't do that and leave Caitlin alone. She's not hurting anyone
@TheFettuck3 жыл бұрын
@@RogueAstro85 You obviously aren't vegan, because you still want to think about cows as a source of food.
@RogueAstro853 жыл бұрын
@@TheFettuck Been vegan for 2 years buddy. I don't see cows as a source of food. But if I can make soy curls taste like Chinese takeout beef without hurting any animals, I don't see any harm in that. Was there a cow hurt in this recipe at all? Are beyond burgers hurting cows by giving people an option to eat that over eating a cow? Is oat milk hurting cows because it resembles milk? What about a creamy cashew sauce that resembles dairy, is that hurting anyone? You're talking out of your ass.
