"My motivation was very different than Kakarott's. My motivation was to be the best, to be the greatest Saiyan alive as I always have been, until Kakarott came into the picture. Kakarott's success was like a demon in my head. How could he be a super Saiyan when I the prince of all Saiyans could not? The intensity of my training was maddening. At four hundred and fifty times Earth's normal gravity a basic training game became a desperate struggle for survival. Even the simplest moves required every ounce of willpower I had. I wasn't sure how long I could sustain the effort without breaking in two. It seemed like the only thing holding my body together was my one desire to be better than Kakarott. At times I thought I was losing my mind. Why couldn't I obtain what Kakarott had obtained? It didn't make sense. It was infuriating and it was my fury that kept me alive. I decided to continue my training in the solitude of space where I would be unhindered by the distractions of the Earth and when a violent electrical storm erupted in the skies of the planet I was on, I welcomed it. It seemed fitting like it was an outward manifestation of the storm that was raging inside of me. Then the meteors started coming down but I was determined to survive and to protect my ship from destruction. It was my only way out, my only way off that nightmarish heap of rubble. I thought I had everything under control but then the mother of all meteors seemed to appear out of nowhere to claim my ship and my life. Normally it would have been child's play to blow up that rock but after training at four hundred and fifty times normal gravity for so long it took everything I had and more. "Kakkkk karot...." Then something just snapped, something inside of me. "No! No more! That's it! I don't care!" I didn't care anymore. I didn't care about being better than Kakarott. I didn't care about being a super Saiyan. I didn't care if I lived! I didn't care about anything and then IT happened. Yes, that's how it happened. That's how I became a super Saiyan. The sleeper has awakened. I am the prince of all Saiyans once again!"

Gohan created a need to save himself and fight for the right cause. Goten got triggered over his mom and Young Trunks got mildly excited. Oh, how the times have changed.

@Haku Yuki gohan earned his story arc during the cell saga lol he definitely deserves the ssj mark. They built up to how insanely strong he is the entire series and how living in the shadow of someone who wants nothing but to fight effected him. Gohan is a real one. Trunks, gohan, vegeta and goku are the only ones who should have reached ssj because their stories and struggles were well written. The rest were stupid and made it seem like it wasn’t even hard.

jeremy vega Except that Goku was never born gifted, he simply worked harder than everyone else, that's the concept behind his character. Vegeta was the one who was born with superior genetics and breeding, he simply didn't have the heart that Goku did.

Energetic Cuunt Not necessarily. It isn't until Goku surpasses Vegeta and leaves him completely in the dust during the Frieza arc that Vegeta develops that competitive streak with Goku. Up until that he just relied on his natural talents. Even afterwards, Vegeta doesn't train harder than necessarily, he just trains differently. Goku believes in periods of rest to allow one to develop and learn to master their abilities over time where as Vegeta just keeps on rushing forward in an attempt to outpace Goku.

DoctorLazers the 'rushing forward" is just vegeta training harder and longer than goku. his 450 gravity training is way harder than any training goku has done. goku just has more natural talent when it comes to getting stronger. his training is laxed compared to vegeta's intense training

The moment he unlocked super saiyan was the moment he let go of his ego. If only for a moment, he didn’t ’give up.’ He just stopped focusing on Goku and focused on himself. Or his frustration just hit its peak. Whatever works.

This vid resonates so much bc there is something special that you need in order to truly transcend yourself. Intense training and determination are the first two steps. But that final piece is letting go. Letting your ego die. That's what will truly put you above it all. It's too bad Vegeta achieves his peace and then forgets his lesson. The second you set out to achieve someone else success is the second you've condemned yourself to a life of chasing. You focus too much on the destination and not the journey. And every second you're not there, it eats you alive. I think a lot of us are Vegeta. Be like Goku, the only person he's trying to be greater than... is himself. That's because he was taught that there would always be someone stronger no matter what. So instead of measuring himself to others pointlessly. He focuses on simply making progress. This is why he's so much stronger. So much happier. His mindset doesn't allow for an ego. He just keeps running the numbers, and that naturally leads to him being the hero he already needs to be.

Yeah, because it’s a good scene and isn’t muddled with Saturday morning cartoon dialogue. Also, one good scene like this one doesn’t automatically make the rest of the old dub somehow superior to Kai. lol I see people like you on Kai videos always complaining that the old show is better and that Kai fans come to videos like this one and vocalize how annoyed they are with the inaccuracies of the old dub when that’s almost *NEVER* the case. And it’s not like their complaints are completely unfounded. The old dubs (Ocean, old Funi, remastered Funi, whatever), especially in the beginning, all made the series feel like a completely different show. It felt even more ridiculous than the gag manga series Dragon Ball started out as. Nobody complains about the OG Dragon Ball dubs because those dubs didn’t try to make the series more juvenile in tone or make the show into something it wasn’t. (Also because way more people have seen Z than DB but yeah) You’re complaining about such a non-issue here that I’ve only been left to assume that you made this comment because you’re annoyed at Kai fans who simply have an opinion and felt petty.

Vegeta is by far my favorite character in DB. He is a jerk. But, considering what his early life was like, it's surprising he is completely crazy. His race is a species or conquerors. They exist to fight, fuk, eat, sleep and repeat. He was essentially a slave of Frieza for most of his life. He is the ruler of a planet that Frieza destroyed. Vegeta knew that for years and still had to work for his master, Frieza. He actually sees a way to get revenge, and this upstart low-class Saiyan surpasses him at every turn. The guys life reads like a Greek tragedy.

To become a super Saiyan you just have to be really fucking tame. That’s it. That’s why it’s so hard for the agressive race of planet conquering Saiyans to do it. You have to be either really tame or just a kind person to go super. That’s also why the later generations of Saiyans are able to go super Saiyan with ease because they are human hybrids or were not raised with an agressive mentality.

I relate to this on a personal level. If Vegeta's obsession was getting stronger, mine was academic achievement. And the Goku to my Vegeta was a long time friend and classmate. He was very bright, might even be gifted. Things that took me hours to grasp seemed to come naturally to him, he would be able to imagine complex stuff in detail while I would still be struggling to remember the basic stuff. It also didn't help much that we had common interests outside of academics (gaming, soccer). So while I would be in my room wasting away, sacrificing sleep, peace and whatever that brings me happiness, he would have been over it and be out there enjoying his life. And the end result:-I am still below him. This was about 2-3 years ago, we both are in the same university now. The obsession has definitely decreased in intensity and I have been happier ever since.

It's sort of interesting how goku and vegeta became super saiyans. Both of them transformed when stress became so great that their bodies and minds went against their very nature. Goku; being loving, calm, and carefree by nature, erupted with uncontrollable rage which fueled his transformation. Vegetas traits such as being jealous, determined, confident, and stubborn by nature, were all finally cast aside. It wasn't until vegeta gave up that he was able to transform

I feel like this happened to me when I got locked up. I was in the hole after getting in a fight. It was my birthday and I was ok 23 hour lock down. I remember just telling myself I didn’t care anymore bout what people thought. I was only interested in my own success. Here I am years later with a legit job a place and a car. I also talk to my kids every night and just bought my son the Nintendo switch for his 6th birthday. Little shit to others but a huge deal to me and mines.
