My dad when teaching me how to drive stick. "Just let off the clutch and press the gas." I stalled every single time until my older bro told me to ease off the clutch and press the gas and to work them together to keep the car going. I sometimes think my dad gave me bad instructions on purpose.

I passed my exam a year ago, I got a car very quickly, I started to drive regularly - and I still have problems with the basics. Embarrassing. It's all fine when I don't think about shifting gears or focusing on stalling. But when I'm too focused on it, I simply can't drive. Because I have an anxiety disorder, being calm while driving, and not thinking about transmission, is something complicated to manage for me. Sometimes I'm so stressed that I'm shaking and even don't hear the radio/music, and I'm just paranoid that I would stall or do something crazy. I thought about giving up and selling my car, but I really would like to master it. It's funny, I really do like cars and driving, I always have fun on parking lots - I like to play with steering wheel when on tiny and tight places. But when I'm on the streets, my stress level is so high that I'm stalling my car very often and can't drive smoothly without wrenching. :/

hey i know you probably wont respond, but im a 14 and learning to drive before I get my permit in a empty school parking lot. When you upshift di you have time to slowly release the clutch😊 or hold at the friction point after using the shifter or not?
@marinmarinhola
@marinmarinhola 3 ай бұрын
@@CT-sc3kb of course I'll respond, always glad to help a new driver. When you shift, up or down, it's always best to release the clutch in the span of a second. Not immediately, but not super slowly, give it like a second for the disk to grab. It would go clutch in, shift, start releasing the clutch and time it so that it takes about a second to fully release. This also goes for downshift, but for downshift, this 1 second release is usually paired with giving it gas to Rev match

Hoping all lights would be green until the highway. Since 1986 learning manuals bought many more. It comes to being natural and saving over 2k on manuals, and feel more connected to the car.

In Europe here you,re not allowed to drive a manual with an automatic drivers license. Thats why most people take lessons in a manual car, a small percentage will not be able to control a manual and go for their automatic license. More than 90% will do their drivers test in a manual, and you,re allowed to drive an automatic too. The insurance company will kick you out if you,re driving a manual with an automatic license. If you make an accident with a manual then you have to pay everything.

I've not driven manually for 20 years, prior to my easy little Japanese cars, I used to drive a 1956 Morris Minor. Drum breaks, vacuum wipers (which would slow down with the vehicle) and you had to double decluch going down the gears! (Also no seat belts in the back, so the kids would slide around on the leather seat when cornering!!

In the time that we are now living in cars that have a manual transmission are becoming rare. You rarely see a car on the road today with a manual transmission. Since I am 72 years old I grew up as a child at a time when manual transmission cars were very common. In the 1950s and 1960s one common transmission was the three speed column shift transmission. My parents 1956 Chevrolet had a three speed column shift. I learned how to drive a manual transmission on a 1965 Volkswagen Beetle that had a 4 speed floor shift. My first car was a 1977 Datsun B210 that had a 4 speed manual floor shift. Since automatic transmissions have improved a lot over the years, automatic transmissions have mostly replaced manual transmission. Today a number of makes of cars are only sold with an automatic transmission.

@TheAbhorrent1
@TheAbhorrent1 Ай бұрын
It depends on how quick you learn. It's great if you have someone to teach you but I'd say anywhere from a week to a month. The way I learned is when you want to gwt going is 1500rpm seems to be enough throttle to gwt the car going. I would, in neutral practice pressing the gas to 1500rpm and holding it there. Same for 2k rpm (if you're starting on a hill) because it doesn't take a lot of gas to get to 1500-2000 rpm Then I would practice taking off smoothly and go like 30 ft and then reverse and repeat that Then I would practice driving around my neighborhood (not main roads) which had hills and flats. I wouldn't even go more than 3rd gear. Once I got comfortable, around 10pm on a weekday when there aren't many cars around I'd drive around the main streets and even highways to get more comfortable and if I stalled there's no pressure since there any really many cars around

Downshift in neutral is weird, it think it's not the best way to teach a newbie driver. Here we have the reverse problem, drive AT is unusual, but it was a lot more unusual a few years ago Greetings from Spain

PD. the way you explain to find the neutral is great. I am doing it a lot of times automatically when i'm arriving to a traffic light, starting the car or whatever

Nice video, I just need my drivers license and I can drive the Camaro 2012 ss, the only problem I struggle with is the first gear and little bit of reverse. Once I get into first gear and get a habit of it, then I can drive it with ease

I would, on flat ground like maybe in front of your house on the street practice taking off smoothly in first gear, drive in a straight line and then smoothly stop and reverse back to where you parked. Then repeat that a few times. I used that exercise to help several things Starting and stopping smoothly Getting comfortable with reverse

@@TheAbhorrent1 I like to thank you for the tip, I’ve been driving around for awhile and I have stalled yet, and I try it to get embarrassed if I do, I go smoothly when I go to first gear and the reverse is smooth as butter

@codyyazzie3135 all part of the process. I've stalled time and time again and sometimes at a light where I'm in front and I caused everyone to miss the light lol. After 6 months to a year it'll be way better. It's been 8 months for me and it's been awhile since I've stalled but it happens from time to time

You can’t drive a manual car in Europe unless you have passed your drivers test in one.

I used manual for decades, but when i bought a new car recently 90% of new cars sadly had automatic. To get the right car, i were forced to buy with automatic. In a few years, there probably won't exist new cars with manual anymore.

True, here in the Netherlands last year percentage of automatic cars was going up to 27%. Most because of the electric cars. I drive automatic too for taxi driving but drive a manual private. Lets say when i could affort a Porsche 911, i would prefer the manual above the PDK automatic. Why?? Because its nice to have 7 gears and the car would have more value over a few years because they sell better for purists who dont want automatic. Even Ferrari and Lamborghini, even the Nissan GTR, all of them are automatic.

@@roccostafford5383 In Norway you can barely find any new car with manual. 80% of new sold cars is Electric cars and none of them have manual.

John 3:16-21 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. Mark 1.15 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Hebrews 11:6 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Jesus
