just update on progress made on the cammy velo project, progress may be slow but iam at 8 years and counting i think so any progress is good progress.

Nice work Sir! Perhaps giving an overview of remaining major jobs on the bike would be useful to give a sense of where the finish line is? I'm still having issues with my 54 MSS. Had it out and about a few times but not happy with engine misfiring. Nothing I've done with the carb (new Amal 920 Concentric Premier) seems to affect it (jets all cleared, checked slide/pilot/needle/main jet sizing; Air control/mixture adjustments make no difference; Different sparkplugs). Just gone through the valve and ignition timing checks and need to test ride it again. Misfires most noticeable just off idle on throttle position, but only when bike is driving/loaded, not when in neutral. If I open throttle rapidly past about 1/4 open, misfires seem to be avoided...but found at higher rpm/wider throttle openings they are still there, just less noticeable. Bike has the new electronic BTH magneto with an external coil unit. Have fitted a fresh 8mm HT cable as 6mm one on the bike looked a bit worn from rubbing in places....maybe it was shorting to ground at times. Other lower priority items: A small seep of fuel somewhere near the rear of tank where it wraps over the frame...could not locate it with the soapy water & air pressure method...will try using talcum powder and putting some fuel in to watch the powder change appearance. Loosing fork oil out the tops of the lower fork castings....a not uncommon issue I've learned, as the soldered joints can crack. Correct fix is to heat/remove all old solder and re-do it, then re-paint. Have heard about a lesser approach using a bit of air pressure and soapy water to visualize the leak point(s), then apply slight vacuum, run a good degreaser (meths/acetone etc) through cracked areas, then apply a Locktite bearing-hold product with a little vacuum to draw it into crack. Apparently owners report this solution lasting a decade or more...

Ah sorry to hear about the issues however owning a classic motorcycle seems to brings these joys with it. I like the fix idea for your forks as the alternative is definitely a lot of work as i am considering a silver solder braze repair to rear of kns frame this means re paint etc. and worries over loosening original braze on lug. The misfire could well be an air leak from somewhere not sure where, usually where carb meats head. My list to complete the kns well should not be major jobs all small stuff but its the cables that is mostly holding me up and lack of effort. Keep me posted on the velo journey you are now on.
