I have the old version in black for my work desk setup. Sitting next to my Wharfedale 225, this sub puts out enjoyable thumping bass at low to mid volumes. Indeed a great sub for on desk use.

How does it sound though? Punchy and tight? Loose and flabby-slow? Well damped? Of course it’s speculation- but please speculate- do you think the passive radiators work well, or might the sub be better implemented as sealed, or as ported?

Not bad, only problem is the pricing especially in Europe. A SVS SB1000 is nearly half the price. DIY is just so much more cost effective again, I built two sealed 8" Dayton DC200 in similar sized boxes and they hit nearly 105db down to 40hz for a quarter of the price together (before being crossed over to a 15" DCS385-4 for movies). That is without factoring in amplification though. Maybe its cost effectiveness is better over the Antlantic.

I did pay $800 originally and had to have 17 better capacitors replaced for a little more thsn $400.

i have the SPL 8" MiniVee? How do these compare? I wanted a 2nd sub and wondered if i should get this one or just buy another SPL 8"? They sound about the same?

A little extra? This sub had my neighbors a block away calling the cops itself own volume was on 3 and main yamaha amplifier reciever volume at -9, with some cheap bose 201s that i paid $25 for. So you know the volume wasnt cranked up and thats what i told them. One said it was the bass, they could hear it when driving passed my neighbors house. This little sub pumps out some big basa compared to some others I've had in the 10-12 inch market JBL, Infinity, jamo, Triad. This is the best I've owned, not any real high end subs, but decent. The Bose are long gone.
