Australians were the first to put cameras in race cars, and I bet it was for Bathurst.

I was astounded when I learnt this. Seems they were quite active in the field of developing minicams. You just assume it'd be America or the U.K.

6:213 km a lap X 161 laps = 1,000.293 km or 6 hr racing start to finish. And yes the first cameras in race cars was in Australia at Bathurst, back then the camera in the car sent the picture to a hellecopter above the race track & back to the ground to be broadcast to the TV station for the viewers at home. And yes the driver of the car that rolled in the sand at the chase was fine, he got out of the wreck before the safety team arrived, it was spectacular to see live on TV at the time

I've been lucky enough to drive the Bathurst track myself, Twice as an amateur racer & many times as a civilian. One thing i can say is that when racing, there is no room for error whatsoever. This race track doe's not forgive if you go offline.

Glad you liked it. You must now look up Peter Brock. I believe he won it 9 times. All the best from Western Australia.

Absolutely, Peter Brock IS the "King of The Mountain" and always will be . And I'm a dinky di Blue Oval fan and have been since the late 70's but give credit where it's due. So I doff my hat to Brocky. In joint 2nd, for now, is Lowndsey & "Gentleman" Jim with 7 wins but I can't see Jim Richards making a return. And in equal 3rd is, Mark Skaife & "Larrikin" Larry Perkins with 6 wins each. And I think the same about Larry BUT as for Skaifey, that's a whole different ball-game, he could make a return at anytime but will he? I'm going to guess, no. Which leaves it, pretty much, wide open for Craig to go on and try to at least equal Peter Brock's record or maybe even be the first to achieve 10 wins at the mountain. If Lowndesy does win 10, he WILL be crowned the new King of The Mountain but him being the humble natured bloke that he is and of course being the former Apprentice of Peter Brock, I think he will accept the accolade with humility but just quietly know in his heart that Peter Brock will always be the true "King of The Mountain"

That’s our biggest car race the Bathurst 1000 6 hours of V8s Ford vs Holden (GMH) it’s pretty hectic but not too many people get badly injured plenty of cars have accidents but that’s why we go and party for 4 days and nights

Ford vs Holden or to be specific to Australia, Falcons vs Commodores in the premiere class is now dead and it has been a slow painful death of about 10 years or so. Ever since the introduction of Volvo, Nissan and Toyota at the beginning of the 20 teens, the pure Australian racecar series that had been going since 1993, with a Ford vs Holden rivalry dating back to 1964, has slowly been eroded when we found out that GM & Ford America were pulling their funding from Australian car factories which forced our industry to look elsewhere for investors who did dip their toes in but ultimately refused to stay. But America is still here. Not to invest in our, now shut down, car industry again but to test their own cars under the guise of "expanding Australia's choice of vehicles". Hence the racing cars are now American, on Aussie soil, in an Aussie series, with American money and Aussie drivers...in American cars that aren't Australian cars. OK, I waffled-on a bit there but these cars mean nothing to me, they're not Aussie cars so I've lost interest along with alot of other fans too, I think.

@@slingshotdingo so you don’t watch Bathurst at all buddy not one little bit we don’t make hardly anything these days we just dig it up or grow it and export it but I’m sure they build the cars here for racing out of imported motors but nearly everything else is designed and built here
@slingshotdingo
@slingshotdingo 4 ай бұрын
@@warwick4763 Yeah, I'm sure they do build them here but they're still not Aussie cars. Sure, I've seen more and more Mustangs on Aussie roads in the last 10 years (I've haven't seen 1 Comaro) but where does Joe Blo go to get a job at the Mustang factory? And right there is where I have trouble getting behind Supercars racing again. When Ford & Holden muscle cars were first pitted against each other in 1968, with the XT Falcons alongside the HK Monaros, and the way they dominated, it sparked a huge interest in the wider Australian public, because they had already seen those cars on the road. 1 out of every 3 cars would've been a Falcon or a Kingswood and Joe Blo could go to Elizabeth, Broadmedows or Geelong and apply for a job to build those cars that he saw everywhere and be proud of his job. And here's the kicker, a limited edition of race spec Monaros & Falcons, were available to the public, untouched & pure, straight off the production line - what a marketing ploy that was. I suppose what I'm trying to say warwick is, I can't see the pride in these cars that our beloved Falcons & Holdens has invoked in us over the past 56 years. When I was going to school in the 70's & 80's, I must've known 30 kids or more, whose parents, brother, uncle, aunty, sister or cousin, worked or used to work, at Holdens, I even tried, twice, when I left school. And not to mention the families outside of school that my parents knew. The list of people that I knew who worked there was huge and it was a badge of honour for them. Now, I just can't see Jo Blo going to the Chevrolet or Ford factories here, bringing his 10 years of mechanics experience with him and going: 'G'day boys, I'm here to install ya race cam, set ya valve lash and dial in ya timin' for ya. Where d'ya hide the donk?...Awh, and I'll need some Sidchromes too. Ya canna hand a man a granda spanner!'... OK, I'm not going to finish like that...but the level of public pride in these cars is just not there anymore for any Blue or Red fan over the age of 15. Sure, the Ford badge is still around but nothing's coming out of Geelong or Broadmeadows anymore and we'll never see another car made with the Roaring Lion badge, drive through the factory doors, into the car park at Elizabeth. And right there is where this whole racing series falls flat for me. I truly wished I could've got behind it but I just can't, even with my all - time, car racing hero still there...go, djr.

The Bathurst race is an endurance race, and part of the Australian Supercars race series. The drivers are professional race drivers. The cars are built by professional race teams, to the very highest standards. Many international drivers, from all over the world have driven in the Bathurst 1000. Few have truly conquered “the mountain”

No V8 Supercars are not anything like Nascar except have a engine and wheels. As Aussie Shane van Gisbergen’s proven in Nascar even driving a V8 Supercar is different as he proves heel and toe foot position on the clutch and brake pedal proves. V8 supercars and Bathurst were once a car selling gimmick also. watch them race on sunday and then go to car dealer and buy the same car to drive on the street on a monday, until supercar scare during 1970's and rules changed.

Hi Fran, One thing not mentioned in this video is the elevation of the race track. From the lowest point of the track to the highest point of the race track is 187 metres or 568 about feet in height all in 6.2kms or about 4 miles. And to do 161 laps of this race at an average speed of over 160 kph. Not forgetting sometimes it is raining on race day also so there are a lot of variants to this race, as well as the occasional kangaroos that cross the track. Great watching. Cheers

the whole point of the video was that he is a former racer, now a commentator telling you that you need to have the knowledge, skill, strategy and the right frame of mind before you even start. the video was showing you what happens at each area of the track if you get it wrong. you don't get on the start line without experience and v8 supercars aren't ordinary cars that you just go and buy they are purpose built racecars and far safer than an ordinary car.

Describing this racing as "deadly" is wrong. There are so many safety features in these cars and the regulations. There have only been 2 deaths ever in Aussie V8 Supercars over the decades of racing, and one of those was when Denny Hulme had a heart attack while racing at this track

Wow you have really dived into the Aussie stuff .Just to put your mind at ease only one of those drivers was injured in those crashes and that was the one that was bouncing off of the concrete barriers coming down the mountain and he got a broken leg .They have since modified the cars so that particular situation wont happen again .The track is actually a public road most of the year and has a speed limit of 60 kph (and the police watch it closely ) .The hill that the track climbs is very steep it doesnt really show how steep on tv but you would struggle to walk up the track .Just some advice when reacting to the different clips try to pause it when you want to say something i have seen all the ones that you have reacted to so far so i know what they are saying but for someone that hasnt seen the clip before they may miss something while you are talking .other than that im enjoying watching you learn about Australia . Also try looking up a beginners guide to Afl its a newer clip about the game and explains some thing a little better and also includes the womens league .

So intense is this race, each car will use 2 drivers; it takes commitment and concentration the entire time, this is the ultimate in motorsport racing anywhere in the world.
