I was taught that “ver” means “to see” and “mirar” means “to watch” or “to look”. But, in the real world, I often saw and heard the exact opposite. In this video, I show you WHAT is going on!

A better way to understand when do you use VER or MIRAR is this: when you have to turn your head on a specific direction (literally), you use MIRAR. Otherwise, you can either use both in mostly situations. They are synonims.

Jorden, Muchas gracias. I like the calm, less "flashing" you. I am glad to have you back. I am 59, and all that yelling and flashing, was to much for me. muchas gracias amigo. dr. Darrell of Michigan.

Jimmy great to see you back making content. I have to admit that I have been confused by this subject. I think it is really cool that you have such a large body of work now that you can reference your older work in your new work. Now I want to go back and review some of your earlier work. Your videos have been a great help to me, and it makes me happy that you are doing some new content!

Great video as always. The tv thing always confused me. I think watching the video will help it stick in my mind. I also recently learned the phrase "tiene que ver con" which translates as "it has to do with".

Thank you, Marn! Yes, that's a great phrase to know, "tiene que ver con"! I remember very specifically when I learned that phrase. It was so weird to me at first, but very common, and very handy to know.

Hi Jordan, as usual, great content, I just need to make a small ACLARATORIO, en ejemplo “Jimmy va a ver sus amigos” nosotros usamos el reflexive para denotar “visiting with” or “hanging out with” entonces , diríamos, Jimmy va a verse con sus amigos”.

@@elspanishdude hola Jordan, ¡Disculpa, no me había dado cuenta de que me habías hecho una pregunta! Soy de Venezuela pero vivo en los EEUU desde 1990. Me parece que eres el mejor profesor de español que hay en KZfaq. Cuando no logro hacerle entender a mi esposo que es gringo y quiere aprender español, solo busco uno de tus vídeos y ¡Haleluya!

Great video, I needed it I suppose. The end of most of my videos I say "¡Gracias por mirar!", and I have been criticized for it. I should [probably change it to ""ver". As per this video, I've always thought of "ver" as meaning "to see" but also "to view". Usually, when an English sentence using "look or watch is translated" into Spanish with "ver" its because often the English words; look or watch, can be substituted with view. Such as the case with many of the examples you have given here. The example you give at the 8:19 mark is still tricky though: "Is this shirt viewed well?" Granted that one is a stretch to say substitute "view" in English. Yet most of the time "the view" substitute in English idea works to help me know when to use ver instead of mirar. Even if I watched your video on KZfaq, I still viewed it and saw it and looked at it, right? Even if "ver" and "view" are not exact cognates, I'm fairly certain the two words of each language share the same Latin etymology. Jordan, I enjoy your videos even though my Spanish is "bastante", I still think in English, therefore I like the way you explain things from the perspective of a native English speaker.

Thank you, Big Lew. I hadn't thought of the similarity between "ver" and "view" -- but I totally see it now thanks to you. I'm glad you liked this video and appreciate my explanations from an English speaker's point of view!

8:36 This is not the reflexive version, it’s the impersonal SE. Reflexive (and still impersonal) would be: ¿Esta camisa se me ve bien?

I believe buscar is more like “to look for”
@BigLewBBQ
@BigLewBBQ Жыл бұрын
"Buscar" can have the meaning of "to seek" or "to search for" so when "to look" has a seek or search context use buscar in a Spanish interpretation or translation. Jordan can explain it better than me, I'm sure.
@elspanishdude
@elspanishdude Жыл бұрын
I agree with the previous replies you got. When you say "to look for" something, as in "to search" -- that's "buscar".
