Not a single serviceman whether that would be Army, Navy or Airforce would have not had a pinup of her image. She was the goal and inspiration of the country. We won the war, and sweet Vera Lynne was no small part of our victory. RIP sweet angel, now singing for the angels.

R.I.P. tonight to the lovely Dame Vera Lynn who died at age 103 today. She taught us none of us are too old to dream. She was a shining light to many people during the darkest days of WW II & set an example that so many can learn from today. Had the privilege of meeting her & calling her friend for the past 52 years. You will be sadly missed

Vera Lynn once again rose to serve the Country. Only to give hope against another foe called Covid. Her music was invoked to encourage a nation and the Commonwealth to Keep Calm and Carry On. Even the Queen referenced her as being an inspiration to her country. For even at the end of 103 yrs she served the people. Thanks Dame Vera Lynn....

Unfortunately the song has not been available since the 1950s. It was from a live performance at a British airfield and there was a glitch in the recording and so it was't re-released. Thanks to the digital age I was able to remove the glitch and so now it sounds fine. Cheers on your impending wedding. There are plenty of wonderful songs available by Vera Lynn on CD and online that would be suitable for your special day. "A Nightengale sang in Berkeley Square" comes to mind.

A beautiful tribute to all the brave souls who lost their lives defending their countries. Regardless of where they were from or what flag they were fighting for, all of those troops were someone's son or daughter, someone's sister or brother, someone's father, mother, husband, wife, friend. May they all rest in peace, and may their sacrifice never be forgotten. Lest we forget.

This song and film makes me think of my mother’s cousin who was lost in the North Sea on October 31, 1944, just a few missions shy of going home for the birth of his first child. I just had to look this up because it was my late parent's "special song" together. My mother played the piano in the living room, and everytime she played "When I grow too old too dream" my father would come running down the stairs every single time. He'd sit on the piano bench, put his arm around my mom and sing the song with her. I used to pray that I'd find that kind of love my parent's had

My late mother heard Linda Ronstadt sing this song. She told me that early in her marriage to Dad, this was their favorite song. They were married in '42. My eyes are so wet from crying I can't see my computer screen,,, hehehe,,,, such courage those flyers and soldiers had! And my heart aches for those soldiers who didn't make it,,, and their lovers, and wives, who would never see their men again. My God,, what incredible, painful sacrifices they all made. I can hardly type this I'm in tears. We should all be humbled to our knees, seriously! We must stop being selfish, and self-centered,,, because none of us today, would be as willing to go to our deaths,, as the Greatest Generation so willingly did,,,, for us.

I love her with all my heart she inspires me to write the love stories that run through my mind. What artist don't have today is originality, emotion in their work, and actual talent. Vera has it all and more, these artists today hide the fact that they cant sing with flashy lights and voice changers. But, Vera is real, her and billie holiday.

Not only is this a superb tribute to the veterans of the Second World War but it is also a great tribute to the Greatest Generation as a whole. People are right when they say America is not the same America. We have too much body and not enough soul. I often wonder what it would be like to travel back in time to the war years in my hometown. I would bet money that where I live there would have been a farm. I salute the fallen, especially those who never crossed the beaches and never landed. God bless them and the veterans who lived through it as well as the ones who still live today. May we never grow too old to dream.
