Restoration - Old hand mortiser

We bought an old hand mortiser for door and window locks. After the renovation, it works perfectly, but since we did not find any period material for the mortiser, so I ask you if you do not know what we are missing on the mortiser? (pictures at the end of the video). Any sleeve? The screws are quite long! At the bottom is the M12 threaded hole. I thought that the stop rod was screwed in there, but as you can see in the picture it is not parallel to the mortiser bed ?! If you have any ideas, I'll be happy if you advise me in the comments so I can use the mortiser to the fullest. Speaking as a 45 year woodworker including 15 years making commercial and custom residential doors I want to tell you that it was a real pleasure watching this restoration. I have never seen a hand device like this before. Beautiful restoration. Thank you for sharing.👍

As a retired Locksmith I have installed hundreds of mortise locks on new builds. It was an absolute joy to see you bring this marvelous piece of precision equipment back to life and very glad that figured how to do the radius corners of the newer locks as opposed to the squared face locks of old. Great job!!!!!!!!!!!

Neither do I, but it works perfectly. It is probably not for common use, but rather for carpenters.

I really like this silent or ASMR approach. It’s kind of like reading as opposed to movies in that your mind gets to fill in things and ask questions that may be answered in the end. Where does that screw go? Why is it there? Will the tork be enough to actually dig out a mortise? And then I always wonder if by sandblasting you’re taking of too much metal so that the piece won’t fit back together. I guess not because these metal workers do it all the time.

Please keep working on content. That's history you are working on. In the US, we use an industrial product called Kroil which will break loose all rusted fasteners including with dissimilar metals!

Well done Radek, an entertaining video that was educational as well! I had no idea that such tools existed before power tools were common. I enjoyed the part before you washed the nuts and bolts when they all marched up the slope and you pretended to chalk a cue before you pushed them all into soapy water. The designers and builders of this tool intended it last the ages or until it was buried in acidic soil to rust ! An impressive piece and an equally impressive of revival. My real pleasure watching this is the thrill of “Will he get it all back together again in working order, or will he have screws left over?” He always does it perfectly, but there is still suspence😊😊😊

My grandfather had a similar device, although identical in function, it was wildly different in design, using a food plate to move the cutter back and forth.
