Welcome to today's video :)
This time we restored an old kerosene lamp.
A kerosene lamp consists of several parts:
It consists of a cast-iron base, a kerosene tank, a flat wick holder, a regulation wheel, a glass cylinder and a lampshade.
The first thing that lit up since prehistoric times was fire.
Each of us likes the light from the fireplace or from the fire in the garden :)
If we leave aside the various period lighting, we will find that the predecessor of the electric light was the just mentioned kerosene lamp.
Kerosene lamps became widespread in the 19th century.
Polish chemist Jan Józef Ignacy Łukasiewicz is considered the inventor of the kerosene lamp
In 1837, a wickless kerosene lamp with a blower was constructed.
And improvements came in 1855,
and the American Benjamin Silliman was responsible for it.
Today, kerosene lamps belong to the past, we meet them only exceptionally.
We probably shouldn't curse them, because they can still serve us as emergency lighting in the event of a power outage.
And we still have the test of our kerosene lamp :)
And that's all for today :)

I'm sorry for my bad English, it's not my language.
I'm uploading videos about restoring mechanical things. I'm uploading videos about the restoration of old wooden things. I fix things as best I can. I am self-taught. Therefore, if some procedures are wrong, forgive me. Thank you.

i believe you are the only one who realizes how much more valuable a piece is if you keep as much of the original parts as you can. You repaired and kept the same screw. that , to my thinking, shows respect for the item and the history it represents. I can only imagine the work that was put into that simple screw in the days before mass production. I like how you restore and preserve history.

Wow, thank you so much Deena for the kind words. I'm glad you keep coming back to us :) I don't mind welding through the screen, but I cover it for people suffering from epilepsy, because the white light of the screen can hurt them and I don't want that. Have a nice day Deena :)

Thank you both once again for an artistically beautiful yet functional lamp. This is particularly close to my heart. I lived as a child with such lamps & candles being our only source of lighting. This was in rural England in the early 1950s. Cooking & baking being done on a huge wood fuelled "Range". Water was drawn from a well estimated at 160 Feet (49 meters) deep, by means of a bucket & windlass. Happy Days ! Again, thank you both.

@@VeradonaRestoration The pace of life, farming, education, social activities were ALL very different then. In some ways better, but in others definitely NOT so. I think, the key word was 'contentment'. "The JONESES then were as poor as the rest of us, so there was no "keeping up with them" lol I do not know what life in the towns & cities was like then. But each village had a certain "kamarade" where if one was in trouble, everyone 'mucked in to help' All the men and boys would move around from farm to farm to help with the harvest and at other busy times. We did not have TV or radio at first, and relied on a daily newspaper, to find out what was going on in the world at large.

Once again my friends you have brought back a lovely piece of history back to life. I was surprised to see that the wick elements were made of aluminum and not copper or brass as many Indian lamps are. Great work and the exterior lamp shade really sets the whole thing off. Thanks once again for sharing this video and your explanation of the lamps origin. Your Texas friend Paul. 💪👍😁🇺🇸

Hello Paul. The elements of the wick, as you write, were metal, not aluminum. It would probably melt around the wick with heat?! Thank you for watching our friend :) Radek & Veronica 🤗

I had no idea the kerosene lamp was created first by a Polish chemist! Another marvellous restoration Radek, I don't know how you make such beautiful items from these rusty things you find. We've just returned from a lovely weekend with old comrades in Cambridge; we both had a wonderful time but best of all is returning to your own house when all the fun is over - and who should I see when I get home? Radek & Veronica. Well done you two.
