Question, how do you say the plural, informal "you are"? Is it vós estais?
@karolinti
@karolinti 2 жыл бұрын
in European Portuguese person vós is not used (ok, it is used in church and sometimes in some villages by elderly people but not in the common language). In that case I use vocês. Vocês são - you are. Form Estais is from the verb Estar not from the verb Ser.

What happens if you go over the word count for the written part? I’m worried because I keep going over when I am completing the practice exams. Do you just lose points?

Dear Karolinti, Excellent! I have a question: why within the sixth minute (6th) when you repeat the pronouns for the third person masculine do you give a Brazilian pronunciation to ELE, as if it was ELI, but then when pronouncing the phrases you return to the proper ELE? It's at the point when you pronounce in one line VOCÊ, ELA, ELE as if ELI (EH-LEE). But when you do the complete the sentences below you properly pronounce ELE: ELE É O PAULO. ? I point this out not to offend you. You are an excellent professoress. I hope you answer. God Bless, Eic Galati

Haha you probably right. Good ear! This is an old episode, I still worked at the Embassy of Brazil at that time so it could slip easily. Stay tuned for new episodes I sorted all that Braziliado out already 😂😂😂

@@karolinti Ha! Ha! With great appreciation for you. Thank God I found you, because I have no problem teaching myself languages, since I am an autodidact. I’m about to embark hopefully in the new year on writing a monumental Italian Grammar, with the intention of saving the language, as well as others like Portuguese from a process of deconstruction and destruction of grammar and therefore our entire proper thought process. Why I turned to you Professoress Karolinti is for the following reason. 1. I wanted to use to begin with, the excellent Charles Berlitz Method from the 1950's to the early 1970's to learn Portuguese. I forget the date of my copy. But Mister Berlitz uses the Brazilian pronunciation. Strange that he did, and I knew already that there are times when an O is like an U, especially when final, or - DOS and similar, or O/THE. 2. I was thrown by the unique usage for me the vowel E in the third person singular for TO BE/SER É. Why this is so particular to me is because in French, Italian and Spanish É signifies a CLOSED-OPEN E hence the ACUTE ACCENT PUNCTUATION MARKˊ:: pronounced like the English alphabetical name-phoneme A, or ay in BAY or ey in HEY. Instead in Portuguese the .É is pronounced If I have correctly comprehended, like the E in the English BET - MET -PET which is how an E with a GRAVE ACCENT is in French, Italian and Spanish: ˊÈ. Once again thank you. One question: Am I correct that final E in ELE/HE is almost silent but is similar to A and O in the English word ANOTHER.[ ə]? There are two gentleman who say all final E are not pronounced? Hence, BATE DDEPRESSE is pronounced BAT DPRESS in Portuguese. Please keep strong and well. I will definitely listen to you given the uniqueness amongst Latin languages of the beautiful Portuguese language. When I start on my own I will work from about five different grammars of days past, superior to contemporary ones. End of 1890’s to about the 1950’s. May God Bless You, Eric Galati
