For some reason I really enjoy watching someone reacting to something I have truly fond memories of. The pinnacle of mafia movies is Once upon a time in America. It is even one of the best movies overall with one of the greatest soundtracks. I would really love to see a reaction video of that.

This was Pacino's greatest performance. A man slowly losing his humanity, while desperately trying to hold onto his family. By the end, hes reduced to a tired gaze in his eyes. Haunted by the shadows of his past. He couldve/shouldve been a great man. Its a fucking tragedy.

Coppola said the thing with the oranges wasn't meant to signify death and was merely a coincidence. It was to add bright colors to contrast the dark set and dark mood of film. Worked brilliantly along with Dean Tavolaris director of photography and cameraman Michael Chapman

Hello Verdy. I'm an old guy that grew up with the Beatles in the 60's. I enjoy watching your music and movie videos from my generation. I've watch countless other reviews of The Godfather movies including yours, which I watched when you first posted them... but never commented until now after watching your's a second time. Your reactions to this and the original Godfather are one of the most astute of all reactions I've seen. You follow the characters far better than most and accurately foresee doom well before it happens. Both should be watched again to better pick up on what you may have missed the first time. Two things you (and most others) missed was the man that got shot while escaping with young Vito after gutting Don Ciccio was Tomasino, the same man that brought Michael news from America while he was in Italy in part 1. That's why he had a cane and limped. Second, in the first film, during the opening wedding, the baker of the cake asked Don Vito to help keep his daughter's hopeful fiance from being deported. Enzo (the baker) from the hospital scene with Michael was that young man and why he wanted to help in any way he could. Anyway Verdy, keep up the good work. Back to the shadows, I go.

Michael finally killed Fredo because Connie betrayed him by letting Kay see the children, which he had forbidden. I laughed when you said watching Clemenza eat made you hungry. Every time I see the scene of Vito, Tessio and Clemenza eating spaghetti, I have to go find some pasta to eat.

I live in lower Manhattan, and it's incredible how some of the buildings down here are from the turn of the century. And seeing the scenes with a young Vito living in the old NYC apartment, is interesting. In my old apartment, they still had the fixture for an old gas lamp, and many other non functioning remnants of that period. I love the old world feeling of these movies.

The biggest complaint most people have with the third Godfather was Francis Coppola's daughter played Michael's daughter. Her acting was "bad" according to most people but it seemed to me that her portrayal of an insecure young woman with a major crush on a handsome, smooth bad boy was spot on. (She was the baby in the baptism at the end of the first one)

I enjoyed your reaction. The Godfather films are a blend of fiction and real life events. Moe Greene was based on real life Jewish mobster Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel, and Hyman Roth was based on Meyer Lansky. Mafia bosses were running casinos in Cuba. When Castro took over he seized their interests and kicked them out . There were also federal inquiries into mob activity in real life as depicted in the film. In the end? The Godfather trilogy is an American tragedy. A cinematic masterpiece.

Part 3 is somewhat underwhelming, however, for closure you need to see it once. I had to watch part 2 a number of times to get everything straight in my own head. I saw both in my early twenties as they were released, and you could hear a pin drop in the theaters at both of those openings; people were riveted. These are still after decades my number one movie(1&2) and I can’t, for me, say one was better than the other. If someone tries to watch the second without seeing the first, it will make absolutely no sense. So happy to see these younger generations watching and enjoying them.👍👍😊

This was a great reaction. If you ever have a chance you should check out The Godfather Saga, which is an edit that Francis Ford Coppola made for television, I think in the late 70s/early 80s. It presents the events of parts I and II in chronological order, so starting with Vito fleeing Sicily and ending with Fredo's death, but the great thing about it is all of the extra footage. It really gives you an insight into Clemenza's character and his relationship with Vito. You also get to see Vito meeting Hyman Roth for the first time when Roth was barely a teenager. Love your channel Ari!

To put things into perspective, The Godfather Part III is a good film to watch by itself without viewing parts 1 & 2 first. But by and large, anyone who has watched the latter first, will be greatly disappointed with the former, usually. Just like movie fans who has immensely enjoyed watching Indiana Jones movies 1,2 & 3 will be sorely demoralised by the lacklustre Indy 4 and the inferior quality of Indy 5

It's amazing how this film weaves in actual historical events. I was really impressed with the Havana scenes. The mob and the Batista government had a cooperative arrangement where the dictator would get kickbacks from the Mobs gambling and prostitution operations in return the mob could operate without interference. As a child, my mother and sisters use to spend the day after Christmas in Cuba while Dad stayed in Miami working. It was a cheap trip as there was a ferry that ran from the Keys to Havana. We stayed at my maternal grandmother's house. The only time we didn't go was right after Christmas 1958. I was 11 and recall my father saying it was too dangerous. He was concerned that there would be chaos should the government be over thrown. On January 1, 1959 my mother woke my older sister and I up to tell us that Batista had fled Cuba. I also recall a conversation between my father and one of my uncles where my uncle was saying that Castro would turn Cuba into a little cup of gold while my father insisted it become a great big cup of sh*t. He tried to convince my extended family to move to the US but they refused to listen. By 1965 they were all asking my parents to help get them out. Most of them were out by 1970. The last one, a cousin who was a doctor, got out in 1992. The Cuba scenes were so realistic and brought back some wonderful memories.

Nice reaction. Don’t feel bad you were confused over who the traitor really was. It was by design and wonderfully acted to create doubt and confusion until he was revealed. Glad you’ll watch GF3. It got unfairly criticized when it was released in 1990. The expectations were too high after the high bar set by GF & GF2. But on its own, GF3 is a fine movie and I think over time now is gaining greater acceptance. If anything you’ll get to see these great characters older and the end of the Corleone story. You’ll see how Fredo’s death has affected Michael after all this time. He has a great line too…”Just when I think I’m out, they pull me back in!”

It's so rare that the followup of an all time classic is even more all time classicer-like, but this one definitely pulled it off. One interesting thing is that Don Cici was right. When Vito got grande, he did come back and get his revenge. I think that part 3 gets a bit of a bad rap. It's a pretty tough act to follow. After part three, you should do the other movie that both Pacino and DiNero were in, Heat. It's an incredible movie.

The reason why the third movie is not as good as the first two, is because Coppolla originally didn't intend to make a third part. He thought the story was told in the first two films. However, the studio forced him (paid him lots of money) so he relented. There are plenty of good parts in the third movie, but it can't hold a candle to the Godfather I and II.

The scene where Michael is at the New Year's Eve party and kisses Fredo saying he knew it was him is based on actual history. Cuban dictator Batista actually resigned during a New Year's Eve party in 1958 and escaped the country with hundreds of millions of dollars in the dark of night. What you see with everyone breaking stuff in the street and Michael trying to get Fredo into the car is the night when Castro wins the Cuban Revolution.

Great reaction like always, this is the finest example of when a sequel is superior to its predecessor. The Godfather Part II is one of the best films of all-time. A masterpiece. It's that simple. And some fun facts about this movie, Robert De Niro spent four months learning to speak the Sicilian dialect of Italian in order to play Vito Corleone, and he only speaks eight words of english during the movie. Marlon Brando and Robert De Niro are the only actors to win Oscars for playing the same character, no wonder that this movie won six Academy Awards, and it is the first sequel to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. And this masterpiece of cinema is known for its memorable quotes. Lines like “Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer” have entered the lexicon of popular culture and are often referenced and quoted. Keep up the amazing work.

Gf 2 is a great film, but I prefer 1 over it. One of the reasons is that 2 is more convoluted while the first film has a more straightforward story. I guess Verdy missed that Frankie is still clearly alive in the bar. The cop coming in when he did saved his life. The line "Michael Corleone says hello" was improvised by Danny Aiello. Coppola liked it and decided to leave it in.

A lot of religious imagery, both Catholic and Pagan. Michael is Nemesis to his father's soul. We see Vito invoking the love of Michael to justify his decision to become a criminal, but then Michael goes on to destroy everything his father built and stood for. Including himself and his family. Which he probably would not have done if their family had grown up honestly rather than as wealthy criminals.
