I have a 1960s Vermeer model 6... and have been trying to figure out how to remove my hydraulic pump belt. This video was exactly what I needed thanks!!!

There are 4 bolts behind the clutch, you just loosin those and it slides and then you just slide the belt off. It would be alot easier then this video

Damn that belt looks tight. Can't possibly be good on that crankshaft, and main seal. I would probably look into getting an actual service manual if you are going more in depth than what owners manual covers.

Do not do it this way...that tapered coupler is made of cast and will crack if you're not careful..plus,it maked realignment difficult, causing tracking issues...there's 4 bolts that are on the slide bracket,that are behind the clutch..loosen those and bam! Replacement p/n in Dayco is an L427

so is there not a way to lessen the tension on the belt like loosening the motor mounts?

This is not how you do this! loosen the 4 bolts on the back of the engine the whole bracket that the hydraulic pump bolts to will move forward and backwards ,
