Vertical farming is great for places like Siberia and Iceland, where energy is cheap and farming land is sparse

great for the middle east and very hot places too - abundance of solar energy and scarcity of water

Certain areas are definitely better suited for vertical farming at this point in time. Just waiting for the moment in the tech development curve when it becomes more viable for the wider markets. We do have some great signs from certain companies like Plenty, that have a very unique approach to large scale vertical farms. However, only time will tell what forms of vertical farming are here to stay.

Unfortunately most of the benefits that will be seen from these bankruptcies is the agri giants continued consolidation of the industry(as they did with indoor growing and hydroponics before this)

would you be interested in doing some videos related to the future of commercial lab-grown (cultured) meat? this seems like the best solution to replace all the negative consequences of animal agriculture

Ruminant animals properly grazing, in a mob, moving about in a tight group and not returning for long enough for the plants to regrow leaves and roots will heal the soil microbiome! Check out Gabe Brown, Allen Williams, Ray Archuleta, Jim Gerrish, Allen Savory, Steve Kenyon, Greg Judy, Joel Salatin; Understanding Agriculture, Savory Institute. The problems include: humans using chemicals, tillage, and industrializing agriculture; treating the world in very narrow minded ways due to highly specialized segmentation of living organisms; people unwilling to work with animals or plants to procure their own food;... Highly processed, fake food-like substances are why humans are unhealthy. Imitation "meat" will not satisfy nutritional needs of humans. Our bodies know what to do with natural foods which are minimally processed. Our brains need animal fat to allow the synapses to function properly. We need complete proteins as found in meat to build and maintain our bodies' cellular structure to the fullest potential. Malnourished people do not develop properly. @@prrithwirajbarman8389 actually its main motive is to reduce the cost of transportation and grow within cities. We can grow most of the plants like .mushrooms and saffron . The things that we export. As for the bigger trees like mangos its better on land than in buildings

Have my fair share of tasting these Hydroponics, microgreens, and Artificial light farming. For those who aren't used to eating lots of spices in their meal and bring forth life for the whole palate of your taste bud, they are okay, at best. But for me, as an Indonesian, who eats spices in every meal...ho boy. Not to disrespect, but the veggies grown that way taste like, water, fiber, and expired pills.

Thanks for sharing. Ive been very curious (suspicious) whether these hyproponic salad greens would taste as good as organic soil grown. Sounds like possibly not. Seems logical that Liquid nutrient input it will produce different taste and (perhaps nutritional content)to plants in contact with natural fungai, bacteria and other biota/micro nutrients. We need to stop fighting nature and work with it.

only limitation are big fruit trees, you can grow almost everything with hydroponics, not neccessarily vertical

Is there a place where you can get authentic data on the output per square metre of these various farms ?

If you mean like a standardised or universal system, then no. This is one of the issues with the vertical farming industry. There is little to no transparency and standardisation as it comes to reporting. Its an emerging industry so its no wonder there are no common rules about this, but this has to change.

@@ArcticFarmingI hope you find time to dig into some data regarding aquaponics as well! Another one that is often opaque, as someone researching feasibility a lot of the ‘data’ I find is just trash

from your video, it seems the vertical farming is just for growing salads, which are super light in weight and therefore limited price for one serve. I think the product that a vertical farm decided to grow is very critical. Drones with simple spectrum analysis and gripper are already applied in apple harvesting with trees designed to be vertically grown. I dont know whether that can be called vertical farm.

Oh man, if we had made a video every time a new vf company had gone down... Its been really sad to see how badly the market has been damaged during the past 24 months. There are some signs of recovery but we are still far from vertical farming becoming competitive against more conventional greehouses.
