Vertx Gamut Overland Backpack Full Review | Pros and Cons

The Vertx Gamut Overland is the big brother to the very popular Gamut backpack. It is essentially a larger EDC pack, made to hold those larger items and all the gear that you want to carry but can't fit into a smaller everyday pack.

I really like this pack, but it really didn't fit into a need for me, It was too big for my regular EDC pack, too big to use as a carry-on bag, and not really built for backpacking. I think this would make a great bug-out bag, or 72-hour bag, or that sort of thing. It worked great as a traveling pack for car trips and gave me lots of ability to carry...things.
When the pack is fully loaded, it can get heavy and it isn't built for heavy loads. The weight will carry mostly on the shoulders. There is a hip belt that helps with some weight distribution, but not a lot. Also when the pack is fully loaded, any items in the CCW pocket tend to push into your back a bit. If you are planning to hike with this pack with a full load, or if you are loading it up as a prepping bag, put flat items in the CCW pocket.

Agree with you on the bag. I have the gamut 2, have a 9’ nerf gun inside and I don’t like how it doesn’t stand up. You know any bags that can stand up on their own?

Eberlestock packs are pretty good. The Eberlestock Bandit is pretty small, but it should hold a 9" nerf blaster, and it was much better at standing up. I did a review on that pack and on the Eberlestock Switchblade. Mystery Ranch packs also seem pretty good, but I haven't tested any of them, I have to take it easy on how many packs I buy and keep around so my wife doesn't notice. 😉

I absolutely love vertx packs I have the gamut 2.0 in multicam black and I have the gamut checkpoint. I have been debating on getting the overland for like an emergency bag or maybe to put all my camping stuff in when I go camping. Idk if you want to sell it let me know how much!

@@Factor85Labs Is the Overland suitable for everyday carry or more of a hiking bag? Is it heavy and/or comfortable? Looking for a EDC-bag for work, home and shorter travel.

@@robertzackrisson7208 it is more of an EDC bag than a hiking bag. It is just much bigger than I needed for a work/home bag, but it is good size for shorter trips. It really just depends on what sort of thing you are carrying as part of your EDC, I guess. It is pretty comfortable to carry and it could be used for hiking, but in my opinion, there are better EDC packs out there in this size/price range if you want something for hiking.

Thanks for the video, helped me decide NOT to buy this pack. I do like most of what it has to offer, but I am looking for a new get home bag and needed a bag with a robust weight bearing hip belt as I work 30 miles from home. I had narrowed my search down to this bag and the Vanquest Ibex-35. Very disappointing a bag as expensive as this and pretty much with every other bell and whistle would have such weak hip belt.

If you haven't already, look at Eberlestock and Mystery Ranch packs. They both have some great packs for comfortably carrying a load. I love Vertx, but they are definitely in the EDC/Concealed carry category, and not so much for carrying a lot of weight for any great distance.
