@@danimorrison4293 Let's just say Charlie's actor was more book accurate to his character. In case you don't know what I mean, much of the original moral in Dahl's book was that Charlie simply did nothing to cause himself or Grandpa Joe trouble and just left the other kids to their own devices. Winning by indifference and distraction at the wonders the factory had to offer. While Charlie in this did not do that, Charlie's actor was wise enough to keep out of it between the two. Meaning even if neither one didn't win them over, he won by being smart about it.

That's always how you should react to children's attention-seeking histrionics. Always remember that YOU are the example that they must follow. When children realise that they're going to be just fine by adopting adult behaviour, the nonsense ends - and you've got a lovely young, intelligent, human being to nurture.

@r-urelentlessandunstoppable
@r-urelentlessandunstoppable 3 ай бұрын
@@Goodiesfanfulor maybe he was trying to still remain polite and be the example of a calm and reasonable person, even though he was getting increasingly angry, and his anger happened to explode when Charlie happened to have been the only person left. Things like that can boil over time. And knowing how good Wonka is and how humans are, especially after a good night sleep to clear the head, I believe that even if he did dismiss Charlie and they left the factory…as long as Charlie did not partake in Grandpa Joe’s advice of revenge, Wonka would have reached out a few days later to Charlie’s family and said “I’m sorry for yelling, the drinks were not too serious of an infraction - I fly all the time with them to test them - you can come to the factory and meet with me to discuss ownership”, or he would have reached out and said, “Charlie, I’m sorry for yelling. I shouldn’t have reacted like I did. But those kids were more than I bargained for and I am too old to act as both a tour guide and a third parent of 4 nasty naughty children. Sadly, I can’t give you the chocolate because of the fizzy lifting drink incident, but the fact that you handled it gracefully and survived my tour shows that you have great things ahead of you. Thanks for partaking in my factory and I wish you and your family well.” I think Wonka only exploded because of everything that built up that day and the fact that he didn’t feel appreciated by the 4 kids nor their parents and Charlie just happened to have been there in the moment where he let loose.

I always thought having her want a Golden Goose was a way to make this not just about spoiled children but also make something adults would crave, people don’t talk enough about how this movie manages to combine the morals of Dahl’s book with clever critique of society that was relevant then and now. Also, I find it interesting that Wonka barely moves or reacts throughout this scene. Almost like he anticipated it happening. Its like this the whole movie its like he’s the director placed inside his own movie.

Well, it was a large industrial type scale, I suppose it fell because it was much heavier than a golden egg, that made the difference from a good one since perhaps a heavier one could be rotten. So immediately when you step on the trapdoor it is activated to let it fall down the garbage chute. And her father, with much more weight than her, would immediately take ownership.

The commentary says it was her singing (pre-recorded of course)? That makes me happy. As an actor she didn't seem that great to me. But as an actor and a singer she is superb. And on reflection, the whole thing is a morality play anyway, a kind of anarchic heightened realism, so the acting is kind of perfect as well. There is no uncanny valley to fall into, as with the remake.
