WOW, at the price of this battery tester I could buy 6 batteries, so my choice would be to replace my battery every 4 years (living in the cooler Northeast), not being a professional mechanic I can't justify purchasing this tester.

I agree with you. This tester is far too pricey for an average car owner. I buy Japanese batteries, with a 5-year warranty, and because Bedford, England does not have extreme temperatures, my batteries last for over 6 years; even though I do mainly short journeys, which means many cold starts. Occasionally, I put the batteries on a quality charger from time-to-time. I also do a simple test of battery voltage, with the engine off and the engine running, using a multimeter, to see if the battery is charged sufficiently, and that the alternator is pushing out about 14.6 volts. Whether a battery cell is weak is not particularly of interest, to me. CCNUT says this overpriced device is very good. But if the software is so far behind , in years, what use is it to even a part-time motor mechanic ?

Great review of tool, but I could buy 3 batteries instead of the tool. I do have an Autel TPMS reader and programmer tool, works great much more affordable, I used it too clone my old wheel sensors. Good name brand in the high-end tools for the professional mechanics. I have a scan tool from Innova Car Scan Pro 5610 it does battery checks. Good enough for average consumer. The Foxwell NT624 Elite is also a great directional scan tool. I used it to do a TPS relearn after cleaning my throttle body. These scan tools can be used to do ABS bleeding and transmission refills on the Toyota transmissions. They even give you the trans temps, so you know when to check the level (Innova 5610) tool.

Thank you AMD for showing how this tool works. It looks good for a DIYer, but not for working on the latest model cars. The price is a little steep. I have used a Fluke multi-meter to test batteries and was satisfied with iit. I also usse a Blue Driver scan tool, but find that the connection is slow. Maybe you can rrecommend a battery testerr and a scan tool for a DIYer on a budget.

Fantastic piece of equipment! I’m a fanatic about being ahead of battery failure. Perhaps current/future customers can register themselves and their vehicles with you so you can send reminder cards/emails etc. “Time to get a new battery”. “Time for oil change” “time to change air filter”. All those things you mention we should be doing at x miles. I do think good idea to register clients and at very least send them a monthly newsletter as that will promote your business. The truth is you will be very busy!

My 2018 4 cylinder Camry XSE with 27,615 miles was just serviced for service bulletin on Power Brake Booster Pump. They said maintenance service recommended would be flush brake fluid and induction system cleaning at $160 each. They indicate the services are 2 yr/20K mile service recommendation. I checked my fluid, it's clear and tester indicates less than 1.5% moisture. The car is running fine with no issues. As you can tell for a 5yr old car (purchased 8/2017) it has very low miles. A time limit on induction cleaning seems silly. 2 yrs/20K miles seems very low for these items. I have driven cars 12 yrs without ever flushing/replacing brake fluid with no observed side effect. What are your recommended intervals, the maintenance manual says nothing about either service they recommend. I have to say, cars are far better than they were in the 60's thru 90's (excluding my 1985 Supra - it was fantastic), but dealerships have gotten worse regarding honesty on service and maintenance requirements with customers. I know when I go in, to expect a pitch on some kind of service, so I fear taking the cars in.

I am a long time subscriber with a question. Just left JM Lexus (Plus Dealer) in Margate. I own a 2022 GX460 went for oil change at 4820 miles. I do oil changes every 5k. I asked when should I change transmission fluid. Service advisor told me never its a sealed system and there is no reservoir that it sits in? He said you would have to drop transmission to change? Makes no sense to me. I thought it needs to be changed at 60k miles and you can take it out from underneath then pump new back in? I would appreciate your opinion. Much appreciated, Sal Cohen

I see one huge drawback to the Autel BT-608E: it is half-ass wireless, Autel missing the mark. One thing I cannot stand is doing an in-car battery test with those damn cables. All-in-all, I prefer the BT-506. Given email, I believe the integrated thermal-printer is an obsolete approach, an unnecessary feature to raise the price, something else to break. If I were Autel, I would combine the wireless feature of the BT-506 with the wireless feature of the BT-608E, providing bluetooth connectivity to Android and Apple tablet, smartphones, etc... That stated, Autel BT609 appears to address the limitations I have identified in the BT-608E.

Thank you for this information. I saw this tester and several others in May's issue of Motor Age magazine. Your right it's a good tool, but the big problem I see is the lack of current year updates. 2018? Seriously? The battery tests are very good and the new battery registering is a must on some vehicles that's very good this tester has that feature. I have a new Fluke DMM so I can use that to monitor the voltage during testing. I also have an older Snap-on Battery, Alternator and Starter tester which still works and does well.

That 2022 Camry battery you tested showed 11.79v as a good result? If I saw that while testing it with a multimeter I’d consider that battery to be dead and in need of some serious charging before I went any further. So I must be missing something here. Is that not a lead-acid 12v battery? Or perhaps the 11.79v reading was the lowest voltage reading under a significant load test?

Temps are a concern in hot summer/cold winter & that's my thermometer (although my hydrometer has a thermometer on it) I really dont see the difference for ME. So I can't jst install a replacement 12v battery? I could see if I changed grp size, but I can't. I know u don't have time to answer, maybe do a future video? And maybe explain cranking on a hybrid? Cranking amps on battery jst tells me connectors are good & chemical reaction is good. And I thot 12v jst runs lites mostly on hybrids? 🤔

@techguy5601

This is correct, also in the cold months the battery will heat up to maintain a window of temperature that protects the battery life span. The Tesla battery technology uses coolant running though heat transfer plates with a radiator in the front of the vehicle. They also changed their battery construction to take advantage of the thermal transfer by adding more end tabs in the copper plates that they roll up to make the individual battery cells. This construction also allowed them to pull more load and charge batteries faster by reducing resistance with the extra folded tabs. Cool science if I do say so myself. LOL
