I found this Precision Press to my local flea shop. This is a manuall press particularly suitable for accurate assembly, precision punching and light press work.
Designed to give lasting trouble free service , the Ram & mating Pinion are manufactured in high tensile steel with machine cut teeth to ensure full tooth surface with a central accurately aligned to the center in the ram itself.
The ram can be fitted with adjustable depth stops and slide way gib adjustment.
Index of operation and materials:
00:01 presentation
00:56 begin disassembly
03:12 preparing for removing rust with MC-51
05:30 grinding all the parts with wire wheel machine
07:32 cleaning all the shiny metal parts with metal cleaner and scotch brite
08:51 polishing all the shiny parts with metal polish and cloth wheel
09:46 degreasing with alcohol
10:00 protecting the parts for painting
10:21 apply anti-rust spray
11:15 sanding the primer
11:37 first coat of the Hammerite paint (blue nuit)
13:53 second coat of paint
14:56 start reassembling

I picked up a press similar to this at a yard sale. It wasn't as dirty or locked up like this one was but still needed some attention. I watched this video several times as a guide and got mine working and looking almost new. Nice work and thanks for the video.

Very nice restoration. Just an FYI, on bare iron/steel surfaces that you don't want to rust again, you can paint them with a light coat of clear lacquer or a coat of carnuba wax or beeswax. On an item like this, either would work well. However if you restore woodworking tools, never use any silicone oil products either in loosening or cleaning them, it may look nice, but you can never remove it completely, and it will ruin any finish you try to put on any wood you use the tools on, because it gets into the pores in the wood. One thing I did want to say to you, not about this restoration, but in other in the past. When you use paint stripper, the gloves you use normally, are too thin to protect the skin on your hands. You really need a thicker glove, at least as thick as one that you would use for washing dishes, but thicker ones are always better when you are using paint stripper. I tell you this from experience. I was using aircraft paint stripper on a restoration project, and had on nitrile gloves about as thick as yours appear to be. While I was scraping the paint, the gloves got a small tear in it, and I didn't notice. Shortly afterwards I noticed a slight burning sensation on that hand. Unfortunately, by the time I felt the pain, it was too late. I yanked off the glove and ran my hand under running water. I ended up with second degree burns on my left hand, the sweat on my hand caused the chemical to spread over most of the hand, and I had large blisters and it took almost a month before I could use my hand again without too much pain. I love that you are passionate about restoring old items, but I don't want you to find out too late like I did. Keep it up.

I'm not sure that is actually a screw. It appears he took the 'head' and the area around it to bare metal, yet they appear to be the same material (unlike the appearance of the actual screws when they were 'stripped'). Perhaps it is some sort of forging artifact that happens to look like a flat screw head.

FYI - Grooves in table are supposed to be paint-free. There is also an adjustable mounting kit that may be used on the press. This came up back in the 1980's when I was training as an machinist-apprentice. Also look up restoring tools with electrolysis. It will save you a lot of work. Great video though. It inspired me to try it on larger mounted tools. TY.

Pro tip when you're done painting or priming take one of those large clear plastic buckets and put it on top and if you are feeling super fancy cut a hole in it and take a computer fan and attach filter to it for air ventilation and viola no more contaminents on your new paint.

He asked about a better finish in another video, at that time I recommended a small paint both like modelers use. Which should help reduce dust a lot. One of these days!!! Your idea is definitely valid too.

You should buy a brand new one from harbor freight, remove it from the box, and make a restoration video.

Yes! That’s great. I used to work overnight freight there. Funny shit! You should see there weekly return bins. Like 3 pallet crates stuffed full of Car Jacks, All the hydraulics,Tile Saws... Jackhammer. literally everything the store sells. And each tool... either worn plum straight into the ground. Or brand new and broken after 3 uses. We called it “ Horrible Freight”, “Rental Freight” ... traveling to “Rental Harbor”

Instead of cutting the masking tape, grind gently on the edges with some sandpaper till you are through the tape.. gives you super clean lines :-) Great channel, love your vidoes, hope you make many more :-)
