Great job with the knife, but I have one recommendation for the leatherwork. If you ever want to add an old leather tooling patch, try to match the color and finish. The color contrast is too off for me.

@@rjb6327 , I think you’re right. Jim Bowie is right person to use his famous knife. I think Sam is someone’s else. Sam Bowie was an NBA basketball player. Sorry……I’ll check twice before I’ll type the story. Thanks ☺️

Sam Bowie played college ball at Kentucky. Then went pro. Jim Bowie was from Kentucky as well. I believe Rezin Bowie was Jim's brother.

*What I like mainly about your channel is that you are 100% real. Everything you restore doesn't appear to have been tampered with, unlike other channels that purposely rust stuff. You cannot fake stuff like the knife you are restoring and it shows.* 👍

I have a neighbor that has one of the largest bowie knife collections I've ever seen. Damascus is his preferred steel, but he literally sold half his collection to buy himself a new truck. I had no idea that there was such a robust market for bowie knives but he has some that are worth over $8,000 and look like jeweled masterpieces. But he doesn't have any other hobbies accept the knives, fishing, and entering amateur cooking challenges.

I had a knife just like that when I was a kid. (a replica, not original) You could buy them for kids back then because they were taught well. Of course, that's when I was Jim Bowie on occasion. The tip eventually was broken off and the knife discarded. Nice restoration, but I don't like the sheath.

Over the years from the time of the story of the bowie knife it's been made in different countries from being made from butchers knifes and broken swords in the civil war in the USA ,I have seen books from authors in the USA showing this ,so for some one to say that it's not a bowie knife is wrong they have been copyed by lots of countries over the years generating lots of different styles of the knife

@@dieteh I appreciate your concern, however, if you read the other posts, others agree with my assessment. As far as showing you what I can do, I don’t need to prove anything to anyone. I cringed when I saw shoe polish being applied as a dye. all one has to do is KZfaq on how to dye leather. I have a degree in advanced materials and design, including leather work. I have been involved in holster and sheath making for almost 40 years so I think I know what I’m talking about without having to prove myself to someone I don’t know. Have a nice day.
