Thank you for the advice I highly appreciate it! I have a few question actually. Can we get in college with an equivalent? Do we get marks in homeschooling? What job paid off your college? What’s comes first, VET SCHOOL? OR COLLEGE?

So it will all depend on which vet school you want to apply to and what their requirements are! From what I understand you still get marks if you are home schooled! Then, depending on the vet school requirements, a university degree is needed first - then vet school! I don't have my schooling paid off but I've had jobs since high school and that money has gone toward school and living expenses!

Is it hard to go to college if you have A’s and B’s ? And if you don’t go to a great college is it hard to go to a good vet school

Hello, sorry for the trouble but I have some questions regarding the university years before vet school, and I usually come to the comment section when in doubt 😂. I'm currently looking to apply to a Canadian university as an international student with the hopes of getting into vet school however I don't really understand how the prerequisite courses work. Like do I apply for them when I apply for my undergrad (before uni) or do I apply for it when I'm in uni? Also if I'm going to apply to more than 1 vet school, and as they all have different prerequisites, does that mean I have to take all the prerequisites required by all the vet schools or is there an alternate path? I'm sorry if these questions seem dumb 😂 but I couldn't find conclusive answers when I was doing research so I'm hoping to get clarity from someone who has made it into vet school. Loved the video btw. It helped a lot!

No problem! That's what I'm here for, trust me there's no dumb questions! So the prerequisite courses that you apply to vet school with will be taken in undergrad. You only have to apply to the undergrad program and then once you get accepted, you can choose which courses you want to take that work with your undergrad program! If you're applying to more than one vet school and they have different prereqs you'll have to take all of them! Hope that helps and if you have any more questions feel free to ask!

Hey! I'm from India, in grade 12. I'm aspiring to be a vet and I'm really confused about this pre ver courses thing I'm thinking of doing my bachelor's in veterinary science in India and then moving to Canada for DVM... Is that okay?? Can you please tell me if I would still have to do a pre vet program??

What kind of jobs at a vet clinic would make good experience?

In high school you’ll probably only be able to get a job as an animal care attendant (mostly cleaning) but that’s a great place to start! That’s what I started as and then moved up to receptionist and vet assistant!

My hs offers a course to become a certified vet assistant, I’m in the program right now as a freshman and my end goal is UCLA vet school, however my parents aren’t too fond of the thought of me paying for college for a bachelors when more than half of the classes I don’t need for vet school, I’m not really sure what to do, tips? Other suggested schools?

It is definitely frustrating knowing that you're taking courses that really won't be applicable to vet school! However, I tried to look at it this way: even if the content that I was learning didn't directly relate to veterinary medicine, I was still learning how to study and building habits like time management that would carry over to vet school! There's a lot of my undergrad that I don't even remember, but having a 4 year program really prepared me for the workload that came with vet school! Hope that helps and wishing you the best of luck!

Definitely take science courses (specifically Biology) since that's a huge part of vet med!

In Canada they only look at marks from grade 11 and 12 when applying to university!

You’d have to check with the vet school you plan on applying to, but for ovc a vet tech program won’t count for your application!

Hey! Im going into 10th grade with vet experience at a clinic job shadowing. Because of covid, the vet clinic isn't accepting volunteers but there's time lol. So, I have a question. Im so confused about the whole pre-requisite and undergraduate thing. Do you take your pre-reqs during your undergrad? I'm looking at the OVC website but I can't find anything about that. Could you explain the undergrad and pre-reqs? thanks!

So prerequisite courses for vet school are undergraduate courses! You can choose which courses you take once you've been accepted into an undergrad program. I'll link the admission website for canadian students below! If you're international you can find the info on the same website just under a different tab! It depends on what schools you’re applying to! All of the vet schools in North America require a bachelors degree or at least several years of one before applying!
