It's not the opening the mouth people struggle with its the fact that the cats reverse and kick with their back feet and their head goes in all directions while the tongue goes in and out so you can't aim the pill then they bite you and escape the blanket and hide under the bed. How do you give a tablet to a cat that behaves like the exorcist?

Sadly, he may go into organ failure and need to be put down if he doesn’t start taking his meds. Just now we followed your suggestions from the video except we fully swaddled him and IT WORKED!!!!! Good example and it’s important to show how one person can do it alone.

If administering a pill and a liquid, do the pill first because the liquid will help to push the pill down. Even a little water afterwards via syringe is a great idea (check ok with vet first). How many times have you taken a pill dry? Um, never? A little water afterwards stops it being stuck in the throat and oesophagus. Hope this helps: I put cat on the bed, crouch above and right behind her so she cant back up and away. With your dominant hand grab the cats head in your palm and thumb and pointer finger at corners of their mouth so you can pry the mouth open and hold the head still. With your other hand shove the pill down the throat as far as you can so they cant spit out, and hold mouth shut. Syringe with water helps just shove into the corner of mouth for easy access. Give your cat a treat right after, and if they spit the pill out just breathe, give them praise and a treat still, and return again 3-5 mins. No cats like pills but its better than them not taking it. Key is to do this all as fast as you can. I had 3-4 attempts before I could confidently do it and my cat got easier and easier so hopefully that eases your mind. Pilling cats SUCK and I was going through the same frustrations as you reading this because, youre looking for someone else to agree this video isnt helping shit, just as I was. Cheers

Lovely vet and gorgeous cat! ❤️ Syringe advice was excellent. I didn’t use the towel as I thought it might freak him out. Worked very well but he’s a very chilled kitten. There’s no way I’d try that crazy tablet method. Disguising the tablet in a bit of cheddar cheese is a lot safer! Great way to get short term meds into a cat. Lick e lix can be very helpful too.

Been trying with my cat, who has just gone through a two week stay at the vets suffering from pyothorax, over the past 2 days and yeah, he fights like a wildcat. Very traumatizing for him. Even with two people we still cant get it right. Going to see if injections could be done instead even if I have to come down to the vets a number of times a week.

My poor 18 year old was too weak to fight me, but I used the towel anyway. Worked great, though the pain killer is bitter so she drooled like crazy. Had a massive infection (twice in a month) in her mouth, which was very painful. Luckily, my vet loves me and charged me very little for dental surgery.

yeah, like many other commenters are saying, this is not as easy as it looks here. my cat fights hard, he bucks inside the towel, enraged to be bound, he turns his head away repeatedly, clamps jaw shut, trying to force it is traumatic for him. gentle isn't happening. first i'm his world then i'm the enemy. so on top of being sick, he can't be comforted by me, because he perceives me as crazy abuser now. i'm just desperate to get him well. this is killing me.

Since my cat is a chatterbox when I walk toward her she's already talking away so I manage to get the syringe in that moment and plunge the syringe. Nothing comes out so I'm hoping it gets down. The way it shows on here the kitty needs to swallow it down? Also l put a tiny amount of her favourite wet food or hairball remedy on the tip of the syringe that helps their mouth going lol

Let me tell you a trik that worked for my cat that keep spitting the pills. I took a little bit of bread and i placed the pill inside ( just to cover it) and made a round ball. I dipped the bread in a little vegetable oil to make it slippery and that worked. So the bread keeps the pill form stiking to gums and tongue and is also easy to deform in the mouth and the oil helps going down. Worked great for us. Thank me later.😸

I get nervous about the cat aspirating the liquid meds. The syringe shoots out too quickly in one big burst. advise on this would be helpful, aspirating liquids or such is making this nerve-racking with a cat who has lifelong respiratory issues and swallowing air daily

I can hold my lil 6 pound senior pretty easily but I've been trying to give her the liquid from the side and she whips her head back and forth flapping her jaw and moving her tongue so she's figured out how to not swallow anything I'm squirting in there, she just lets it all foam out of her mouth and won't lick herself clean. What the heck can I do? I am scared her infection will get the better of her if I can't get the antibiotic in her

I have to give pill antibiotics to my cat because she has an infection in her mouth. Even touching her lower jaw hurts her a lot how can I give her the pill she needs while not hurting her. (She screams in pain)

I tried to open her mouth and she chewed through my finger yesterday. It was quite unpleasant and bloody. I wasn't upset with her but I was very surprised at the strength of her jaw. Now my finger is infected and I still need to give the medication... very nervous about this as I don't want to experience the pain again. Also got a couple of good scratches for bonus points.

Well that is a cooperative cat...mine does not scratch, he is pretty docile. But when I want to give him a pill he just does not want to open his mouth....with this technique. I cant get it in. Struggle is real

This cat too cool and calm... Please do the tutorial on stray cat too... We have mother stray cat and she has warms... Now we have to feed her tablet but we are scare that she will bite.. And she has two kittens so they are also infected because of her..

My cat isn't very cooperative trying any which way. When she doesn't want to open her mouth, she has the jaws of an alligator, no getting that mouth open. My girlfriend shared this with me and I just don't see our kitty cooperating with me.
