The 'Daily Grind' was a real thing women/children/men did every day for centuries. Sometimes the poor shared a set of stones, those not that lucky had to hand grind with two rocks, often leaving the grain gritty, making gruel instead of coarse flour. If you get at chance watch Timeline--World History documentaries about living in Medieval, Victorian, Edwardian, etc., time periods. I love these shows (the farm life series will rock your world and give creative types lots of ideas that work). Ruth, Peter, and Tom are some of my heroes for living history. Lots of cool stuff from before electricity.

My family always grew corn and hay and took a bail of straw to the feed store and found up about 6 bags of ground corn for the cows and we shelled the corn by hand for the ducks and chickens plus they bought sweet feed along with the corn for the horses. Growing up on a farm we had many animals that we took care of pigs, chicken, cow , horses hard work a long with fire wood and other chores and we raised tobacco . Glad everything is coming a long for you .

Soak your ground feed in water for a couple of days for chickens and hogs. It ferments a little, easier to digest and they really like it. Just my 2 cents worth. Nice grinder.

That really is a tank! lol We use our cast-iron Country Living hand crank mill for our grinding, but it's only for baking. I only go through about 4 cups of wheat berries a week, though. As a kid, my brother & I would hand-scrap dried corn off the cobs for the small herd of steer we kept. That was one of our chores. I'd hate to have to hand-crank dried corn for a homestead's worth of livestock, though. If we were growing our own corn for feed, we'd have to make some changes, for sure...and we'd probably wind up getting that tank. 😂 Incidently, we have our Country Living mill bolted to the kitchen island since it's so heavy. I can't imagine that tank being in a kitchen!

I read the stats on Amazon and it said it will grind wheat into flour. As wheat is easy to get here directly from farmers, I think this is a good deal if you have a way to run it after the grid goes down. ❤️👍🇺🇲 FJB

My hubby is building a very sturdy table on big wheels right this minute for our new grain mill. He's making it out of 2x8's and is almost finished. It said on the directions not to use it with an extension cord, so I want to be able to roll the table with the grain mill around. I'm so looking forward to using it! Thanks Dave!

Hey Dave! This is a great machine. Mine is coming May 3! I've been feeding my chickens whole corn for about a year now, on guard for any change in their health or egg quality. The price of layer pellets or layer mash is just way high. So, all 22 chickens are doing fine on whole corn. When they hatch chicks out, I do buy cracked corn for the babies. HOwever, this machine will change things! I do have a hand crank, expensive, good quality mill for wheat berries, but having two mills is a good idea, . Thank you for enlightening us!

Good video, SouthernPrepper1. Looks like you have the basic fixins for a Sunday Dinner right there, with a chicken and corn meal for cornbread, corndodgers, Johnny Cakes, cornpone, hushpuppies; now you need to rustle up some greens, salted pork for grease and flavor, and of course LOTS of >beans. [Lots of beans, the more you eat, the more like you toot, your way to a healthy heart!] ...+Pee-Kan Pies, or since since SP1 is a transplanted Yankee, SP1 will say Puh-Kahn Pies.

I love the country living grain mill for wheat to make flour. It’s got a hand crank out of the box and a v groove pulley it mounts to for hooking up to an electric motor. It’s not cheap, but it will last a lifetime.

I bought a hand crank cuz if the world ever goes the shit there's no sense in getting used to power but I have modified it to fit a drill or an impact driver on it if I need to I'm pretty sure I could figure out how to hook it to a windmill those fancy electric generators and stuff are only going to last so long if the world is never going to bounce back it's best to get used to it right off the bat

Whole corn is FAR more efficient than ground corn for chickens, esp in winter. The whole corn heats them up. Nothing wrong with ground corn for chicks, but I make cornbread, soaked in milk for chicks. Soak corn with sugar or molasses for hogs. Soak oat groats for chickens in winter, next best thing to green grass, along with the corn.

Add a screen to sift after the grinder and you can capture flour for the house while the rest goes to the chickens. You can double grind too. Study the Nixtamalization process (uses lime, baking soda, or hardwood ashes) to free up niacin and several other key vitamins plus it reduces any mold aflotoxins that are more likely to be in survival-grown corn (since most don't have lab equipment to test for it). The Nixtamal process results in wet grain you can use a wet grain grinder ($20 Amazon) as it's softer than dry corn. KZfaq videos out there for how to make authentic nixtamal/masa. Make sure to practice growing a lot of corn before you need it, that also gives you bags of corn ahead of time. Rotate any stock to the animals if it doesn't get used that year.

Please know that fresh ground grains will not keep long as in a few months and nutrients will escape quickly as in days If you nixamilize the corn first that process causes the corn to release its nutrients for human absorption. Easy process

Almost a third of the oklahoma panhandle is owned by china China's Buying.up majority of the aluminum copper and iron on stock market plus precious metals. They own land farmland from the East Coast to THE West Coast scattered throughout several states. I live a few miles from the Oklahoma PAN handle. They're building big buildings growing marijuana. To raise capital. What better way to invade a country? If you already own part of it and already have stockpiles of reserves already in place. Almost a third of the Oklahoma panhandle is owned by China. And a big chunk of Texas panhandle under it connecting together.
