This is a new series I've started explaining the basics of VEX for algorithmic design / procedural modeling which I'm using in daily basis.
In this second episode I'm explaining the basics of group which is used to filter the geometrical operation and is an important concept you should know in order to use VEX for algorithmic design.
I've also started a Patreon, it would be great if I could get your support to continue creating tutorial contents.
00:00:00 Intro - What is group?
00:03:34 Group types and how to check them
00:10:19 Set attribute with VEX function
00:17:39 Set group with VEX function
00:25:32 Access to group info with VEX
00:36:01 Count datas inside a specific group with VEX
00:39:28 Get list of data indexes inside a specific group with VEX
00:44:48 Use group for filtering with VEX function
00:56:51 Use group parameter channel on a node for filtering
01:00:38 Group expression on a group parameter channel
01:08:37 Group expression with VEX

I have to say but this is possibly one of the best ways to teach Vex. You explain things in detail, why you want to do things a certain way, not just present solutions. Very cool. Thank you so much.

I confirm the usefulness of this VEX series for those who like me want to build solid foundations in learning this complex but fascinating way of communicating with Houdini. Thanks again Juni for the clarity of explanation.

18:04 Not sure if you mention it later. You can set groups similarly to attributes using the i@group_abc=1 ; syntax

2 videos in and I already know that this will be the absolute best series on VEX for me. Clear explanation of core concepts that are an absolute must for any type of coding, not just VEX. Seeing them and how they can be used as you teach is superb. Thank you very much.

This is very useful so thanks a lot! I just wonder (at 1:12:53) how is it possible to run conditions inside strings? I found it confusing since strings use to hold literals.
