I'm really proud of myself for understanding all if the vfx stuff they broke down because I'm going to school for this lol

Lucky you, back when I went to school for it the only thing close to real lighting rendering was Vray or Mental Ray and setting up the materials and lights were a pain in the ass. Plus don't get me started on character unwrapping, you can now basically bring in a full 3d element into Photoshop and paint directly on it and export the maps, such a time saver!

As acomplete aside Superman (and by extension Supergirl) can control their position in space at will. Generally that is expressed as flight, but it is also how they can take cannon fire to the chest (or punch a 200 pound man hard enough to make HIM fly 20 feet through the air) without flying back from the impact. Like bracing themselves with an invisible wall made of their ability to move freely through space by force of will.

I just think about it this way. Even shows on ABC or other major networks that have huge budgets compared to the CW have bad CGI. So you can't expect CW to be great when they get pennies compared to those other shows and probably have a much shorter time to do them seeing how almost every show has 20+ seasons an episode. Also Supergirl has to rely on using CGI a lot compared to a show like Arrow which relies mostly on actual stunts or practical explosions. Although with Supergirl not really sure why they don't us practical effects more often for example not sure who the CGI face guy was as I don't want the show. Only guess I could make off of the top of my head is Green Martian wouldn't think it's Martian Man Hunter seeing how they are fighting him and he's a hero.

@@wisewolftony You were seeing a shot of Ma'alefa'ak. The brother of Martian Manhunter. He's being played by Phil LaMarr. Like I said I love these shows, but you kind of get taken out of the scene when you see things like this. Or those scenes in The Flash when he's running at high speeds and he looks like a claymation action figure. When it comes to someone like Martian Manhunter or Ma'alefa'ak, it doesn't make much sense why they don't go the practical makeup route with them.
