Fantastic video and tutorial! Really nice to see the modules I helped develop being used so creatively! The 1050 was completely re-engineered to use modern logic chips and reduce its current consumption from 500mA! AMSynths will launch the 1026 sequencer expander module later this year…☺️☺️

Very good and pleasant reading starter guide, Ralph! Also compliments to Behringer for bringing this Legend to life again, with modern compatible electronics to the original ones. Of the original system very few are available, let alone fully working. Since Alan R. Pearlman designed some modules with a twist, your tutorial is more than welcome! What i especially like about the original / Behringer 2500 is that the modules were clearly designed by an engineer, which follows from the system design as well, with the matrix switches that are actually nothing more than a giant breadboard! I'll be starting with the 3 module system you suggest, intending to go on from there. I'm already enthusiastic brainstorming and starting a design for the matrix switches. These would of course be columns of radio buttons, not slider switched, that will light up when activated. And with a patch programmer included!

I have a Behringer System100 (complete) and struggling to get my head around patching modules together... and remembering what ive done. Can be so frustrating. Hello Tom, thank you so much for your valuable feedback. I personally prefer the 2500 or 100M system over the 55, because they are (in my personal opinion) easier to handle and more compatible to other contemporary Euro Modules. 24:16 this really shows the effect that effects have on a sound. When the armchair experts are saying "it sounds nothing like the original" I'm sure in most cases it is because the new version is being demonstrated dry or at least with different effects to what were used on the version they remember which might even be off vinyl records which further alters the sound. The album Oxygène is the only album where I prefer the awful Polydor vinyl pressing because it hides some strange EQ decisions that the CD reveals.

I noticed the Behringer 2600 modules you have in the rack with the 2500 modules, and have just seen a YT video explaining that some of the outputs from a Behringer Grey Meanie 2600 would be too high to use with a Eurorack system without an attenuator to control the voltages. They had a full ARP 2500 system in that movie. I guess they also wanted to show an impressive Synth instrument in that communication scene to make it more dramatical. But for that particular sound you just need a VCO, Filter, VCA, Envelope and Reverb.

Perhaps some modules are useful to add to the B 2600, I will listen lot of videos, but Fist I will have an exploration on the B 2600 combined with the Taiga, and some effects tiddly used giving stereo space , but these are on racks at the mixing stage of my others electronic instruments as wind instruments. @@RalphBaumgartl lot of thanks from Bulgaria (and I'm french😺) at this time you makes me going to modular, as I'm on my operative cases that will be my mobile studio through Eurasia. So I worked this week to use the place I have to place Eurorack lines in a 19" home made, and other lines on my 3 keyboards case opening by the front and the top, where I will make those spaces. My choice stands for the B2600, hesitates between the black or the gray, ( because of the filter, and also for the vision wich is better with the orange than white ). Then will buy the Taiga, totally patchable, so lot of joy coming, and a third synth, not the wasp, because I saw there a Wasp filter module, and as Behringer is going to slow it's prices, perhaps the Solina will be pretty to my music and being affordable, as an eurorack compatible... If I'm not wrong, you mentioned Solina too!🤗 I'm a fan of Rubicon from Tangerine dream, one of my first 33t as I was teen. I will listen your video about the filter section, the multifilter is already on my list for Thomann next month, white and pink noise and the oscillators you mentioned here. I stand also for something to replace my Roland MRC 500, very useful for multi midi tracks. So I will be very attentive to your work, for sure!. I've made a dirty video on my rumble, only few seconds,long, and I will post soon an other extract where I made talking my Juno 6 with my SH 2000, as some are saying they are obsolete, I had asked my synths to tell their advice. Very short and bad sound guaranteed!.... But that was only after I came listening your patches, I applied some thoughts about portamento, growl, LFO... To say that you gives me fun perspectives , and I will make serious videos later when I will be ready, with a good camera , Light and wave recorder. For now I'm working on the home made mobile racks.always ready to use or to move, that's the deal, and need me to make the good choices now before to finish the wood build.

@@patriciaoudart1508 I don't have a Solina String Ensemble but I have a Roland VP-330 which gives me a very nice String sound. If you watch some of my music videos you can hear the Roland VP-330 because I am using it quite extensively. Behringer also made a clone of that keyboard. But the Behringer Solina is always a good choice if you just require a classic string sound. Greetings, Ralph

Fantastic tutorial!! I am considering buying a few modules. I would have a quick question: how hot is the audio output signal coming out of the 1006 (or any other VCA out)? In other words, would I need a gain attenuator between a VCA out and, say, a sound card or a mixing desk? Thanks!
@RalphBaumgartl
@RalphBaumgartl Жыл бұрын
I am giving you my personal opinion here. As your Eurorack System grows it makes sense to have a dedicated mixer module. But nevertheless you can go directly from the 1006 VCA output to an external mixer and make the necessary gain adjustments there. Greetings, Ralph
@andreataeggimusic
@andreataeggimusic Жыл бұрын
@@RalphBaumgartl Thanks Ralph! So, if I understand correctly the output gain is not excessively low or high and can be adjusted via a mixer/sound card. I was asking since someone mentioned to me that the signal of some analog modules may be extremely hot, meaning you'd need to scale it down before. I will definitely take into account the idea of having a mixer module as well. Cheers

@@andreataeggimusic after all it depends very much on the functionality of the mixer. The mixer should have an attenuator where you can adjust the gain.

Hello Ralph, Thank you for your cool videos. I am planning to start with the 2500 system. (I have a 2600, but lets pretend I don’t). What 2500 modules are then essential to make sounds? Let’s say the core of the system. I want to start small with a eurorack case and the essential models and build it in time. Hopefully you have a suggestion. Peace!

Good video 👍 Off-topic question... What do you think of those 2600-type VCOs? Did you get them to complement your 2600s or do they have enough musical character to make them interesting in a modular system that uses non-2600-type VCFs?
@RalphBaumgartl

I will make a video about the 2600 VCO's soon. I am also using them in combination with other Synths (not only 2600) and within my Eurorack setup because they are pretty versatile.

@@RalphBaumgartl I look forward to watching that. I am building an analogue sound engine for my Roland Aerophone AE-30 wind synth. I have the Behringer Neutron as the core (it has excellent MIDI to CV conversion characteristics for a wind controller). I have added a Behringer 110 module but I want to add other types to give me variety and the ability to morph between different timbres while I play. Exciting possibilities!

Can you explain to me how to make it work because behringer doesn't explain to me? Many thanks and guten moregen

Does the mix sequencer (1050) need the step sequencer (1037) to function? Can you use the mix sequencer by itself with other non 2500 modules?
@RalphBaumgartl

You can use the 1050 without 1037 or vice versa. But in combination they really begin to shine :-) I haven't used the 1050 alone with other Eurorack modules yet. Greetings, Ralph

The mix sequencer is designed around an electronic analog de-multiplexer (for sure an engineering idea, and brilliant of Alan Pearlman to realise this may have many and awesome uses in a modular synthesizer). So yes, it may be used with any other eurorack module. Looking forward to Ralph's video of the 1027 and 1050 combined.

Why are there dual power connecting cables included in for example 1027 and 1050, and dual connecting points, both 10 pin and 12 pin on the module? The lamentable instruction manual only instructs to go with the 10 pin version, and says nothing about the 12 pin jack on the module. I assume both module power connections are not to be used simultaneously? Behringer Go 2x140 rack with 32 powerconnections available

@@Synthesizer_Explorations I don't quite remember. It's possible that I also made a power connection to both modules. And then connected the two modules with the other cable. @@RalphBaumgartl I follow the leaflet with the minimumsized letters, they all say the same for every module. Since the 12pin connector only works between the 1027 and 1050 I guess its just a question whether I blow up one module by connecting it via both the 10pin and the 12 pin or not. I think Behringer must actually answer it before I try. Thanx for your help, looking forward to more videos :)

@Synthesizer_Explorations yes, I remember now. There was only one cable that allowed for the 1027 to 1050 module connection. It's been more than a year that I have installed it in my Eurorack case. So I don't remember every single step. Also check Behringer's video on the 1027 / 1050 modules. Somewhere I have found a bit more information. Perhaps it was there....

Why not use a buffered mult for v/oct to prevent drift..? In this case you get away with it .. but in tutorials would be nice to show 'best practise'

Hi Tommy, good point. From my personal experience these"lower priced" multipliers work fine with up to four VCO's. But using buffered Multipliers for the VCO's and also for the Envelopes and other Gate Inputs is the right way to go. I will bear that in mind in my future tutorials.
