One thing I am curious about was...did you enjoy the trip throughout? Usually, even on a trip that I enjoy, I usually have a time when I wonder what I got myself into! Usually the first day is exciting, but then by the second day, I am like "what am I getting myself into"? :) So did you have a fun time throughout, or was there ever a point where staring at the prairie scenery started to get old?

Not one minute of doubt. The only issue was we arrived two hours early and the last morning was rushed. I did the trip with my oldest son in May 2022 and could not wait to go again. That trip was late so it was about 6 hours longer. I was hoping it we would be late again this time. I really like trains and we don’t have them in my province. I’m like a big kid when I see a train when I travel. My dad worked with the railway and we lived next to the tracks. The last train to run in our province was Oct 1988. Since then no trains for me lol.

Great video Todd! In about one month, I will be taking the Canadian, #1 from Toronto to Vancouver with both of my parents Making a great circle trip across the continent. Taking Amtrak for Minnesota to connect over to Toronto. Before taking Amtrak from Vancouver to Seattle to glacier national Park in Montana. Before returning to Minnesota. Can’t wait to get to Canada and experience this epic train trip for ourselves

Thanks for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed it. WOW great trip you have planned. So nice to be able travel with your parents. My first trip on the Canadian was May 2022 with my oldest son. My youngest son took the Ocean Train with me in February 2022 … that trip was my first trip video. Check out my videos from the train trips with the boys. I would love to make the full circle trip. My wife finally agreed to try the Canadian with me next fall. If she enjoys the train trip who knows what will happen after that lol. How can I follow along on your trip with mom and dad?

@@AdventuresWithTodd I’ll be uploading to my KZfaq channel here I am actually flying into Toronto myself because I have credit with Delta I’m gonna lose. And I have a week to myself in Toronto and Montreal before my folks take the Amtrak in from the USA. And so that way, I can get a video of their train coming in to Toronto Union Station. Once we are on board the Canadian for the ride across to Vancouver. We are going to spend an overnight in Vancouver because as you know the train can be super late. Then that morning, I bring them back to Pacific Central Station, where they will take the Amtrak through Seattle and onto glacier Park in Montana. They brought me there as a kid in 2001, and my mother has always wanted to go back. So this way they’re going to spend 50% of their trip with me and 50% of the trip alone together. Where I will stay, that night I’m heading to Vancouver airport. I am going to be boarding a 15 hour flight to head to Australia for a month. I’m gonna be taking for luxury passenger trains across the entire Kent of Australia and I’m also going to visit a place called Australia zoo. It’s the zoo that is run by the family of Steve Irwin. Then, after that, I fly from Sydney all the way back to Dallas, Texas. Spend time with family before I fly three days later back home to Minnesota. I’m bringing both GoPro and my phone. So I can Vlog the best I can. I’m glad to come across your channel Todd, you got great videos. Always good to have a fun adventure and when you have family, it just makes it that much better.

We must be twins lol. For me it’s the childhood memories of travelling on the Ocean. It was a big family trip for us. Those fond memories stuck with me to today in my 60’s. Plus my dad worked on trains until Oct 1988. Since then we do not have trains. I have great memories going on the freight trains in the caboose and sometimes the engine. Once again Thanks for watching.

I was travelled at the end of October… when did you travel and which direction? I certainly loved every second of both trips too and can’t wait to go again. Hope you get to go again soon. I have room F booked for fall 2024 as I hope my wife comes along for the trip. As for the Lower Berth, the bed is big for a train and I like that you sleep in the direction of the train. Both my trips I was pretty confident the cars I selected would not be full. I lucked out as it was only myself and my son on my first trip and myself and another gentleman on the Oct trip. It was very private. It would be a different experience if all 6 berths were occupied. With just two we agreed to a take a bathroom each and share the empty section to store our stuff. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for watching. The bottom bunk is very roomy and comfortable. You can see the bunk a little better in the video I did from my first trip the previous year. You can see some of the upper berth too. I enjoyed my one night sleeping in the upper berth. The lower berth is much much larger than the lower bed on The Ocean Train I took between Montreal and Halifax return. That was my first go at making a trip video. I captured the beds in that video too. I am booked again this coming fall in room F. I will have to take the upper bunk as my wife will want the lower bed. Check back next December or January and I should have something posted on Room F. The trip is sure wonderful. Even better in June with the much longer daylight … and making the return trip . Did you vacation in Toronto or just hop back on the next day? Putting the video together was a great way for me to relive the memories too. My first go at making a trip video was on the Ocean in Feb 2022. with my youngest son. I wanted a keepsake from his first train ride on VIA. That video lead to another and another. I have a l longer version of this video I have to finish someday. It’s the same video but the scenery clips are much longer. Thanks for watching.

Was going to book a trip from Toronto - Vancouver for this coming June. I was disappointed to see all the roomettes were sold out. How did you find sleeping in the lower berth?
@AdventuresWithTodd
@AdventuresWithTodd 2 ай бұрын
The lower berth was great. I stayed there on both trips. The beds are bigger than those in the roomettes. I tried my sons upper bunk one night and that was great too. I took both when the uptake on the berths was low. On my first trip it was just myself and oldest and son and on my second trip it was just me and another gentleman … so we had a bathroom each (we did not leave toiletries as other guest could use the bathrooms too). The empty sections provided extra space which was convenient. On my second trip some cars had all six berths occupied and seemed much busier and less privacy. Go for it. The trip is amazing. Once you book call reservations and get them to move you to car 212. They seemed to fill that car last. Note that section 3 is more private and maybe a bit quieter as it is a bit further from the wheels.

Enjoy, it’s a great trip. So much so I am going again in November. This time my wife is going too … her first train ride in Canada. Try and get room F. This room is bigger than the others. You can call VIA to see if they have one available and make the switch. Both my trips were from Vancouver to Toronto. You will arrive early into Jasper. Try and be up as the scenery is nice a couple hours before your Jasper arrival. Hopefully the train is late lol. After Jasper be sure to sit in the dome car. The right side will provide a better view of Mount Robson. I like the last row in the dome car because you can enjoy the view out back as well. Both my trips the dome car was lightly used so it was easy to change sides if something interesting was ahead. I enjoy dinner in the daylight. There is something special about a great meal, great conversation with new friends and the ever changing views. I took the early dining in late October and enjoyed daylight the entire meal. Be sure to have a pre and/or post dinner drink in the Bullet Lounge Park Car. Prestige passengers start dinner 30 minutes before sleeper class so that’s a good time to enjoy a less crowded Park Car. Just my opinion, but I like being in the furthest sleeper car toward the back of the train. It’s closer to the activity car, dining car and Park Car. Plus, just my opinion again, I assume the better chefs and service staff work in Dinning Car B because the Prestige passengers dine there. Get out of your room and enjoy meeting fellow passengers. You will have many interesting conversations. Thanks for watching.

@AdventuresWithTodd
@AdventuresWithTodd 4 ай бұрын
Depends. Prestige is very expensive but a berths are very reasonable if one has the flexibility to travel off season and pounce on the discounts. My lower berth cost $808 taxes in. The upper berth were even cheaper. Very reasonable for the four nights. The roomettes and bedrooms cost much more however. Thanks for watching.
