Patterning in the Shinki comes from the tanning process that includes a roughly 25-30% shrinkage (not from any stamping).

The grain is part of the tannage and a natural grain. Gets even more pronounced if shrunken. Nice feature!

I think it also makes it stiffer than the unshrunken. I can't imagine my jacket being made of shrunken shinki. Wouldn't be able to ride my motorcycle 😂

I saw these in my inbox. Kinda kicking myself for not jumping on them. In contrast, John Lofgren did similar makeup in black which were around $200 more expensive. As far as I can tell these are in the same league quality wise.

How are these in terms of comfort? I am a shoemaker who is contemplating going with horsebutt for my next project, and I wanted to see how they’ve treated you so far!

Both the Maryam and the Shinki are brilliant leathers. The Shinki seems more finished and refined; softer and more comfortable than the Maryam. Part of that is the more accommodating toebox of the Viberg last. Hope that helps.
