"I didn't come here because I wanted to, but because God sent me" John 8:42 I paraphrased that but the gist is right lol. If God and Jesus were the same he basically would be saying "I came not to do what I want, but what I want" - makes 0 sense Half of what Christians today believe go directly against what the Bible teaches. Cross worship? That's a no no. Ex 20:4 Worshipping the Virgin Mary? That's a no no. Ex 20:4 Worshipping saints? Ex 20:5 That's a no no. Teaching that Jesus is God? That's a no no. Deut 6:4, Ex 20:3 Heaven and hell? That's a no no Ecc 9:5 Don't get me wrong, God is real and he cares, but ignoring what the Bible says is no way to get close to him. I also never understood what people thought they were gaining by copying and pasting comments on KZfaq on stuff that has nothing to do with religion. Been there before the tourism boom from the TV series. It is quite interesting. I recommend it. However, I get the feeling it isn't really possible to do UrbX there anymore. When I went, already some years ago, it was already quite regulated and controlled. Most guides (obligatory) came with buses, big groups and you aren't allowed to go anywhere. We had the chance to have a guide that would keep security "busy" a few more adventurous people from our group could walk around. Until part of a building's rotten floor nearly collapsed that is :)

It was not a "routine test" as the narrator said. The operators were performing a first-time evolution to experiment if they could achieve the necessary power required to maintain the primary equipment for core cooling in service from the power solely generated from the rolling turbine (after the plant's main power was shut off). They were testing to see if the spinning turbine could continue to cool the core during a loss of off-site power event, prior to needing to run the emergency diesel generators. So no, this was not a routine test and it was not properly planned for.

@MinSredMash 2 жыл бұрын
Nope, it was not the first time. It was the fourth time. And they were testing capability that was supposed to be part of the reactor's overall design. Also your characterization of the test is incorrect. The RBMK was already provided with backup power in the event of a blackout condition. Upon loss of off-site power the inertia from the main circulation pumps' counterweights would provide enough voltage to bridge the gap to diesel generator startup. The turbine inertia rundown procedure was needed ONLY if a blackout coincided with the rupture of a 900mm coolant pipe (a design-basis accident). This is an important distinction, because it meant that according to regulations, a failure of the test did not threaten any interruption in coolant supply. Unfortunately for them, the reactor did not at all resemble the reactor described in the regulations. Seems like only a few dozen people in the West understand any of this, which goes to show the dreadful state of public knowledge on the subject.

@@alexandertheresurrection2810 Those horror stories were from people that had been there for hours very shortly after the fission was still going on. After the fission stopped (when the reactor exploded) the radiocativity steadily decreased and the area has been mostly cleaned. Even the elephants foot which would have killed you in minutes back then will need more than a day of exposure to kill you now. Without a Geiger Counter I would not go there, but with a Geiger Counter it is pretty safe as long as you do not ingest anything. If I had to choose between going there for a day or a round of russian roulette I would 100% go to Chernobyl.

If I’m not mistaken he states that initially they were there to perform a technical test on an outlying building, but when they arrived they were asked to image reactor 5 (which as you mention was not completed) as to prove that radioactive material had not been stored there and I assume to allow the pilot the opportunity to gather a better understanding of the terrain for potential future inspections of the destroyed reactors.

I would have liked to see the corium, the 'elephants foot', it's basically a huge mass of melted nuclear fuel along with anything else it picks up along it's path straight down. There's been one pic that I know of, got a copy of that. not sure exactly when it was taken, surely not more than a couple years after the accident. It would be interesting to compare the data gathered then and now, IE the size, shape, location, radioactivity, etc. Any plans to visit Fukashima plant?

I think small pockets still have extremely high radiation, but the vast majority of land is relatively safe.
