Inside the Strange, Psychic World of Indigo Children

Gavin Haynes has come from England to America to investigate the secret world of Indigo Children, a select group of people who believe they were born with "indigo" auras and possess special and supernatural traits and abilities. Though many of these children have been diagnosed with ADD or ADHD by health care professionals, Indigo parents maintain that their children do not have these conditions, but are instead running on a different astral plane unbeknownst to regular people. Critics maintain that these children are not receiving proper mental health care.
On his journey for answers, Gavin has his aura photo taken, undergoes a holistic dentistry examination by a mother/daughter Indigo pair, and attends a concert for Indigo rap duo The Underachievers, who are preaching Indigoism as a way of life.

I think the most special child is the one who simply has no need to be special. Because they are so loved, so protected and seen, they can dare to just exist, and have their own immediate experiences and relationships without intense overlays. I grew up feeling like I was very special, but it was a coping strategy in the face of enormous trauma and neglect. It's also frankly exhausting.

No such thing as MOST special child. Especially if they are most loved, protected and seen. That's a narcissist in the making. Plus, “daring to exist”? well, wtf are all us 8 billion people doing? Not daring? Not existing? I'm not done with my rant though....”I grew up feeling like I was very special”??? Well you just told on yourself and you're probably a narcissist. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm right, actually...maybe YOU’RE RIGHT but guess what? That's life... And life is colourful. When we learn to see all the hues is when we can fully live it, appreciate and respect it....Self diagnosed indago has spoken here...or perhaps an undiagnosed loony. 😝

the ADHD/sit down with the psychologist portion of this documentary really got me. the amount of deep shame that is buried within me, feeling so guilty for not being able to do what are deemed as 'easy', 'selfless', 'normal' tasks feeling that something is wrong with me because I cannot do those things.... is immense. and even if it was late, im very grateful that i went to therapy in high school, as we would never have known my dad's ADHD passed directly onto me (genetically)

I have ADHD too, it effects me every single day and I’m kind of at that point in my life where I feel guilty. I was failing my classes, I just wanted to draw and stare out the window. I am now out of school but I get yelled at by my boss because I simply cannot focus. I try my best, and even though it’s hard for me, I have to accept that this is how I operate, and I have to cut myself some slack. I do what I can do and that’s perfectly fine.

@@soullessmorgue7252isn’t it hard to focus sometimes just because it does not really interest you? When you find something interesting, don’t you have such a great lvl of focus that everything else vanishes? ADHD or whatever label could be either considered as a condition or a gift, depending on whether you are helping someone fit into a box or you are giving him/her space to do things in his/her own way. The difficulty is that most of people conform to modern society, which in turn is not designed for unconformed, hypersensitive persons

My mom also bothered me for years with the indigo and crystal children bs and that I was an indigo. Turns out I was autistic all my life andit was up to me to finally get diagnosed at 41. Sure, a lot of my characteristics are awesome and unique, but I found my tribe within the ASD community, not among new age indigo bs. I now understand my strengths and weaknesses and dont't need to deny who I am to feel good about myself. The thing is, neurodivergent people always existed and never fit in, so it's not at all that new generations are special somehow.

My mom also used to tell me she thought I was an indigo or diamond child. Her mother was very spiritual and so is she. She was never pushy about it though, she would just mention it every now and then. Of course it made me feel special and it definitely made me feel better about not fitting in. She was never one to deny science though. Maybe question it sometimes but not fully deny it. She was completely supportive of me getting tested for ADHD and ASD and didn't have a problem accepting the positive diagnoses. I honestly think adults who are still obsessed with this idea of being "special" just need to grow up. No one is special. We're all different from each other. Some of us are more obviously different which usually makes life harder so it's more of a disadvantage that we must first accept in order to then learn how to work around it.

Interesting because I think I am mildly autistic and I happened to experience some supernatural moments in my life. Not daily but still it happened a long time ago. Why your mum think youre an indigo? I do believe that Indigo people existed because of what I experienced back then. And somehow the supernatural moments, related to this dark secret that has been held from my knowledge. Which I just found out last year. But the mystical moments happened many2 years ago when I was still in the dark about these people that quietly done harm to my life.

The biggest problem with ADHD in my experience is social interactions. I'm constantly told I speak to frequently or at a a rate people can't follow, I find non ADHD individuals find me tiring and I find others equally tiring. Its almost like everyone is in slow motion and every uhhhh or um or weellllll feels like I lost a year of time. It usually results in people just ignoring 90% of what I say and telling me later they normalized ignoring me for their own sanity. Really makes you feel outside the norm when people consistently tell you that you are to much for them.

I don’t know about “Indigo” anything. I know that after a very difficult childhood (many abuses) and especially after being shot two times, flat lining, being brought back and the experience I had...something changed in me. Change in that I could “read” people much more and accurately. I could “heal” others of pain through meditation and a hands on approach, no not that hands on! Lol...I had the ability to see not just others (see the things they have never shared, or would never want others to know) but places I’d never visited. I later found out this is called remote viewing. I could/can often see places that I’ve never been to, it could be on a “wider range” or as particular as the layout of a persons home, the where a-bouts of everything within the house for instance. (Non of these are absolute all the time nor am I able to just “call upon these things at will” all the time). Over time I have had too many “successes” to chalk these things up to luck. I’ve been “tested” by others who were rightfully cynical. One such example, being asked to do a reading on a person I’ve never met...no holds barred, “just write what you see”...and I did. These people were no longer cynical. There’s much more to these things but my point is...our abilities to help others, to see people and places from afar and more are not “special” but IMO more common among all people, just not believed & hence not developed. As for using tuning forks, stones, minerals, candles, etc...meh. If I can help someone who wants help I will do my best. I never charge money and that’s important because it’s not about money, it’s about sharing something that we all possess & hopefully in doing so, some closure or relief is gained by that person. I laughed when the aura paining women was talking about her daughter and how sugar water helped. Of course her daughter was diagnosed with ADD/ADHD which would mean that much like the medications given to children with such diagnosis sugar being a stimulant would likely calm her down aka the opposite effect. I know this because both my sons were diagnosed with ADD and ADHD. Ultimately in the end, these actions are not curtailed to a small segment of the population but are apart of all of us. To really boil it down...have you ever had what we call a “gut feeling” though you had no proof? And were right about that feeling. That’s pretty much the same thing, it’s more a matter of belief and doing. In this video I saw more affluent, over protective mothers touting their children as being “special” in way that deviates from the “norm” and again in my opinion...I call bs. Are paranormal abilities real...absolutely! Are these abilities solely or remotely subject to upper class kids and their 60’s generation parents who cling to that dogma along with their 401K’s and trust funds...absolutely not.

I have ADHD, there's a frustrating amount of ignorance about ADHD in the comments here. Personally I find it a real pain in the arse! I love my creativity and unconventionality but daily tasks are really difficult and I feel like I am peddling backwards. Also with regards to spirituality I have a hard time with any ideas of hierarchy as my spirituality is about looking for commonality, what connects us; not what makes us seperate, labels like 'Indigo' 'empath' sit awkwardly with me because humans are inherently capable of being gifted and empathetic, that's one of the riches of being human and while not everyone will be so I think most people are good and have been throughout history, it seems somewhat self absorbed to think of ourselves now as being more special or more exalted beings than our peers or our ancestors.

Blessings to "you" who've been feeling the lord God, pulling on your heart strings. This is disturbing. As a kid I too was told I was “differently special” because of the wild (and incredibly dark) stuff that would pop up in my mind. Some people called it indigo, some gifted, but the punch line is I am now 30 with no good job or reliable income due to severe mental illness. That’s because I was suicidally depressed as a CHILD and those mental illnesses that caused me to have trouble as a kid, left untreated for a few decades, absolutely destroyed my life. I am on medication and go to therapy religiously and I can say proudly that my life is beginning to improve. I will always regret the decisions of my family not to help me with what really needed to be addressed, though.

K. Gen H Psychology is a really new field of research and I think it’s unwise to assume that doctors have the answers to life wrapped up in text books and compressed chemicals. Although I think they’ve made significant progress in the field, pills are not a magical cure for such complex issues such as depression. Being told your special could have negative affects on your life, but I would argue that being told you are insignificant like everybody else is more detrimental. As I said, I think there has been significant progress made in the field and I want nothing more than it to continue as it has helped countless people. But the argument being made that puts doctors in a position of the perfect healers is wrong and sheep-like. Too many people are guinea pigs to pharmaceuticals when all they really need is good people around them for a breath of fresh air. The roses don’t always smell nice but that doesn’t mean I’m gonna stop using my nose. Use your consciousness in that same way. Yeah, you’re depressed but that’s not an excuse to augment your brain with man made chemicals. You are the master of your destiny and all the tools you will ever need are within yourself.

I have had a group of 5-6 friends that have been around for over 20+ years. My last girlfriend we dated for 13+ years. I am not saying ADD does not exist but just be very careful. People can and do live with all kinds of psychological diseases without medication and do absolutely fine in this world. If one becomes out of control then perhaps medicine is needed. They put me on some medication and it fried my brain, Now I have all of these ticks because of it which are very annoying.

To me, this whole Indigo thing gives actual spirituality a bad name and takes away the focus of what true spirituality is. Most people are now focused on being psychic and attuned in energy but it's so much more than that! It is so forced nowadays. I believe everyone has a third eye, the ability to see past earthly attachments, and to be intuitive but lots of people just aren't yet in tune with it. To me, it's all about learning about yourself and this universe and how it all flows and connects. Its all about letting go (especially of the ego) and letting life flow. Not building up your ego because you think you're more aware than another person. That is, I believe, what spirituality and Indigoism is truly about but people have just turned it into another trend :(
@AshleyNeshea
@AshleyNeshea 7 жыл бұрын
I completely agree with you. I believe EVERYONE has the ability to open their "third eye" this is all fairly new to me but from my understanding i feel like we are all here together in this space and there is often speak of different frequencies some vibrate high and some not so much BUT if we all occupy the same space then what is stopping one from being able to vibrate higher other than their own choice not to. I don't see it as 1 person being better than another just some deciding to embark on a different or new journey to find themselves. Which is why i myself am digging deeper into the subject. Lately ive been experiencing an overwhelming feeling of 'THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE" this may or may not be it but it never hurts to expand and be well versed in a subject.

Anything you "learned" for those exams that you didn't find interesting will be gone from your brain in ten years. Intelligence doesn't just mean you're book smart either. It covers perception, social skills, self control and a whole lot of other shit that sadly, people with learning difficulties do not posses. Yes their might be a few kids who are extremely "intelligent" in certain fields because the wires has been crossed a different way that the average human, and their brain works better in those fields but worse in other fields, but that doesn't mean that people who have trouble learning are intelligent. There is an in balance. "healthy" humans have a relatively equal balance of all these fields.

you guys missed the whole point, taking the indigo children out of context. why didn t you analise the educational system and the way society wants to slave us. to be an indigo is not something special in it self, but they are people who dont want to be slaved and have their love and artistic inspiration supressed. what is the goal of life? to be formated by the market and serve the capitalism? this doc was very bad done. try to see th rea;ity from a deeper perspective. actually most of us do not want to be slaved but the indigos are the ones who can resist more. they do not depend emotionaly on any one, therefore can stand against the society alone, without a problem. others are just weak and surrender to the enemy easily. change the educational system and you will see if ADD will happen. seems that you just wanted to ridicule the children instead of treating them as a heros who can stand against the corrupt system. be aware!!!!

I took literally 6 different tests, all of which classified me as being an indigo. (on each test I was very close to the max) Yet...I don't believe in any of this bullshit. Here's the thing; all the questions are open-ended, and extremely vulnerable to interpretation. Questions such as; "I find it easy to read others" and "I have a hard time fitting in". These sort of loosely formed questions are far too susceptible to ego. These people all just want to feel like "special snow flakes". I find it highly disturbing too how so many seem to use it as an excuse for poor performance in work and school...well I excel in both, and I am apparently "an indigo". How pathetic these people are...truly. Stop making excuses for your kids, stop making excuses for yourself, and stop feeding into the obvious money making scheme this all really is. It's JUST as bad as the psychiatrists who keep over diagnosing ADD/ADHD and pedaling drugs for the pharmaceutical industry.

I can see how ADHD/Autism may be overlinked with 'indigo children' - The sensitivity levels and capabilities of thinking and understanding travel further than that of the average child. I'm ADHD and was able to understand concepts and ideas and history that I previously had no knowledge of at a very young age, I was able to understand languages and what people were speaking out solely based on their behavior without any formal knowledge of the language they were speaking, I can still do this too. I travel very well. I also used to get visions as a very young child of "imaginary friends" however stopped once I got to about 4 or 5. I take it as my own understanding and concepts I've built within my experiences throughout my life. I was abused as a baby, and this continued on in my later childhood and teenage years too and think it may be my body's natural protection agencies coming out. Just my theory on it.

Body and brain they prove needs exercise it helps with how you think and what you eat and drink matter or don’t drink would be better said. WFPB diet no refined sugar or processed foods. I feel like we shouldn't use the term "Indigo" becomes it forms another illusion of separation between us. We are all indigos, we all have incredible power we can tap into. We all have the ability to tap into extra sensory perception. It's great to work with the chakras or primary energy centers because it can help heal us, sometimes we have energy blockages that prevent the energy from flowing upwards, working with the chakras can help balance ourselves on all planes. This documentary kind of pokes fun at new age beliefs but deep down it's a movement of bringing us all together & finding ourselves within. We all hold so much power but many of us only tune into the physical aspect of ourselves. The universe is all energy, vibration & frequency, we must think of it like this to reach these higher levels of consciousness. Don't look down upon these people for believing in this stuff you may actually enjoy it once you try it :) much love & light.

+Jake Rench I agree with you entirely. All labels ultimately divide in one shape or form. I have been in this type of practice for some years. at first it was just meditating and feeling all these new sensations just from simply quieting my mind and letting go of the wheel. funny thing is life is a lot better at sorting out life than you are. i wasnt born with any special intuition really. but luckily i found great knowledge and dedicated myself to self discovery. I wont get all esoteric and talk about chakras and crystals and shit. People get so wrapped up in those terms and just ignore spirituality entirely cause they think its ridiculous. i guess getting to my point is, anyone can do it. No ones special. Everyone has the ability to evolve their consciousness. its not about religion. or following the right guru. its about transcending your boundaries and exploring this vast, mysterious, and vibrant thing we call life.

+Jake Rench Spare the rhetoric. This new age way of speaking is nothing new. It's all impressive words, feigned sophistication and superficial depth. Vibration, energy and frequency are words to describe material things. Particles vibrate because they have energy and these vibrations in turn have a frequency. You're using scientific terms in an absolutely meaningless way. Just because something sounds nice and appeasing doesn't make it true. You don't have chakras, you just have guts and shit inside of you. You have a brain and a mind. Work on those. They are demonstrably real.

It freaks me out that my daughter is 'in tune' with me. It is a common occurance that I will be thinking about something and she will come out of her room and ask for the same food I was thinking of, or any other endless number of things. I've never moved a male into my home after my husband left us when I was pregnant. Perhaps it's JUST an extremely CLOSE bond....but it's WEIRD. I don't even want to think 'naughty' thoughts because I feel like she can 'see' my thoughts. I can think of going to a store and she will ask, 'when are we going?' One day she came and said she 'saw herself outside on the swing and a lady drove up and asked her if her mommy was home.' About an hour later a Census Taker lady showed up at our door. This type of stuff is EVERYDAY.

I agree with this concept of finding what moves your soul, do what you love at your deepest core. This is how you begin spiritual awakening. It opens you heart center. Proper purification of your body needs to be done first though. I have worked with autistic and other children one of which was my own who was extremely gifted but she got labeled by the school system and they wanted to poison her body with medications. I trusted them and wish I had never. Thankfully she stopped everything when she became an adult. They did the same thing to my mother who was warning people about processed foods and GMOs back in the 70s. She was way ahead of her time. Our system of pharmakia is all backwards.

My family called me an indigo child, but they trafficked and abused us growing up and what they praised as "special" in me was just trauma responses and social developmental issues expressed due to the CSA. I think calling me an indigo child was a way for my family to cover their tracks and dismiss concerns about my behaviours that could be indicative of the abuse. They called me a prophet, a healer, and all sorts of wacky psudeo-occult and psudeo-christian terms that could be neither proven nor disproven. One thing about using a term like prophet or indigo to reference a child is that its a great way to muddy the waters for anyone who might be concerned for the child's welfare. People would just dismiss us as a weird hippy Christian family and would back away instead of leaning in to ask more questions.

Tho it would really really depend on how severe the ADHD is. Cause really hard cases won't work with sugar. Also ADHD should never go untreated or unknown. not knowing you have ADHD and not knowing you're simply different is the shittiest feeling ever, I can tell ya.

While you are correct that ADHD causes different drug reactions (or even basic biochemical reactions) treating ADHD is better not drugging them so much as teaching the child how to deal with it. I have ADHD, was diagnosed as a teen in the early 90's and was given drugs. They worked briefly till they were having to constantly up the doses till they were hitting toxic level. My mother told them to simple pull back the doses and just take me off. After that she merely took the time to just help me focus in ways that worked for me. Now at 34 I still have occasional issues with wandering attention but now I can click it on and off, I am either a bit here there and everywhere or.. Completely locked in on my task and my boss actually loves me because I can get so much done where as others simply prefer to sit back and be lazy.

Same here. ADHD Combined Type, told by family doctor as a 2 year old and struggled through school until I learned mindfulness and other coping skills to focus. I was professionally diagnosed in my 40's and tried Adderall and a couple other meds but found they made me ANGRY to the point of Snapping and and being on the edge as I was coming off by later afternoon. It was better for me to manage the inattentiveness with mindfulness that it was to manage the effects of the anger and irritability.

Modern spiritualism has that kinda built in, that's what's so appealing about it. People who feel helpless suddenly have "powers", or are "light healers", and can feel special while also framing it as humility and being "open to the mysteries" which again implies emotional and psychological superiority. It's a slippery slope, just like any belief system, where going too far can bring you from wisdom to insanity very quickly and easily.

There's no such thing as "indigo children". They're just demon-posessed because their parents have turned their backs to God. Sorry to say, but that's all it is.

I got diagnosed with ADHD this year at 28 and am hypersensitive to other people's emotion's to the point where it can feel like physical pain if someone's in pain or happy if someones happy, unfortunately in this society we do not cater to neurodivent people and it's very hard to live a good life in an unnatural environment that overstimulates us and a world that had many bad people, they both have a point neurodivent people have gifts but being diagnosed and treated can be very helpful

ann vining what is god to you? a glorious being seeking of honor and respect, or do you believe god is a universal division of all knowing beings with separate experiences? because depending on your answer, you are not an old soul.

My 4 year old told me that when she was in heaven, she picked me as her Mummy and that in a past life she used to be my mummy too … she is so advanced for her age and although she has so much energy, she does go to sleep at bedtime and she sleeps through no problem! Owing to this, I don’t think she has ADHD … School always say that she has been a lot and that she is always full speed ahead. I’ve asked them if they think she has ADHD but she can focus and concentrate and is excelling in most subjects so they don’t think so. They just think she has a lot of energy. She’s such a character but I’m going to let her determine what path she wants to take herself and support her best I can … I’m not going to force her down any path because chosen or not, her path is already set (like all our paths are) See what happens 🥰💖 xxx

I turn 50 next month, and was 100% the turbo-brained weirdo growing up in the 70s and 80s. Learned about "indigo children" TODAY from Mayim Balik's Breakdown. Found this video next. What this video is missing is the longer story. I know Vice is contemporary, not historical reporting. But "indigo" is a term coined to understand mold-breakers decades before we understood what neurodivergence was. I can appreciate that it could be a way to accept yourself or your child when they don't "make sense" within cultural norms. To load all sorts of spiritual and otherworldly baggage on top of it is a whole other thing. I was diagnosed with ADHD this year after several years of frustration with medical professionals who told me I wasn't dysfunctional *enough.* The sugar and marijuana here is fascinating. ADHD brains don't respond to stimulants like normal brains. I thought living without sugar was impossible. Until I got off it. Pot is a super common way to slow down that exhaustingly fast brain. That was my dad's route. Understanding ADHD we shared helped me better understand the number he did on me because he was trying to fix what was wrong with him. To poo-poo stimulant medications is really something when you are self-medicating with other substances. Look, I am super glad I was given space to be the weirdo as a kid without meds. I was able to build up my environment to work with me, not against me. I am also thrilled to now be on a stimulant med and off sugar and able to dial down the speed and noise in my brain in a very good way. I know we are all just trying to get through the night. Wishing for each person to understand their wiring and what works for them. They aren't broken OR magical.

I know everyone is talking about ADHD in the comments, but *synesthesia* is another possibility for seeing "auras." For example I would associate colours, genders and personalities with letters, numbers, shapes, symbols etc when I was a kid I used to complain to my friends that their name doesn't seem to match their gender (too many masculine letters in the name for someone who is feminine) and they had no idea what I was talking about. Ask any group of people who have these "crossed wires" they won't agree on their perceptual associations. It can get really distracting when you're trying to solve math problems while you perceive personalities on the page, but I still sat my butt down and did my homework.

Same. And so does my dad who indoctrinated me in to esoterical belives that he bend and shaped to his liking. He was/is somewhat narcesistic but possibly also neurodivergent. I got a autisem diagnosis when I finaly could go to therapie avter leaving dads grownds.

I remember it like it was yesterday....so beautiful! I went outside and my friend Nathan and Mikey were hanging outside with my brother.. I had never had no experience like this.....I was 23 or 24. I was standing next to people I knew a for few years, and all of a sudden I seen a blue Aura around Mikey's head......it was so supernatural. So me being Pisces I had to make sense of it and analyze it,,, so I moved to the other side of Mikey and thought ""Maybe it's the lighting outside with the street lights"" NO,, that wasn't the case! I actually seen a blue round aura around Mikey's head,,, and here's where things get different then alot of people.......I actually stopped everyone talking and just said it out loud,, I said { Mikey I don't mean to freak you out but I see a buzzing blue aura around your head and body"") He actually believed me and said his sister seen his blue aura all the time. Years later he went from a party animal to a believer in Jesus Christ!
