Animal Rights Extremists: Trespassing to Rescue Chickens

Direct Action Everywhere (DxE) is an animal liberation group that is notorious for its large-scale actions which sometimes involve illegal tactics such as civil disobedience and trespassing.
DxE sees their actions as essential to forwarding their cause of exposing injustices in the Animal Agriculture System. However, some of DxE’s opponents, especially those who have been directly targeted by DxE, have labeled them as actual terrorists after their aggressive occupations and protests.
VICE documents as DxE embark on their largest actions to date: occupying an egg farm in Petaluma, CA and removing chickens from the property. VICE also speaks with the co-owner of the egg farm who claims that DxE’s actions are not only illegal, but detrimental to the possibility of a constructive dialogue between Animal Rights Activists and members of the Animal Agriculture Industry.

Reminds me of the animal rights group in Australia that broke into a small egg farm and released all of their chickens during the night. When the farmers showed up the next day, they found all of the chickens dead in the field next to the farm, as the foxes had slaughtered all of the chickens released. They didn't even eat all or even most of them, but just killed them. These were chickens that the farmer said his children had raised by hand and took careful care of them everyday. But the "animal rights activists" threw them right out to their freedom with the foxes. What's that old saying about the road to hell being paved with good intentions?

Wesley O. Ye I agree. I don’t support animal cruelty or support unethical farms, which is why I normally read the packaging when I buy meat. There should be stuff done about unethical and cruel animal enclosures and farms but gathering people and having people trespass and go to jail isn’t the way to move forward. They should report it and let people who can legally enter the premises inspect the farm and animals.

@Daniel Kintigh I get what you're trying to say, but I think your comparison is apples and oranges. Turtle eggs are protected because they are endangered, whereas humans are currently at no risk of extinction. It's not the same sort of law in question, which, when considered alongside the only common ground between your point and Christopher's being "corrupt laws" (which is a bit too loose and thus feels quite jarring) makes your whole argument sound much like rambling. This is a problem because such a tone can make an otherwise well merited argument feel absurd or nonsensical.

@@matildah3039 plants feel no pain? oh, they feel it, they also have a nervous system and they respond when, for example, the leaf is cut off. As for animals, they feel pain, but this is only an instinctive reaction to a stimulus, only a few species on earth have something as complex as feelings and can attribute importance to even basic instincts. Even something as close to a human as a dog, in truth does not have most feelings, they are only learned how to respond to human behavior, they are not able to feel, for example, a sense of guilt. Feelings are complicated processes and not every animal has them or not all of them. There is a difference between feelings and instincts.

The biggest issue with this farm appears to be the battery cages. Keeping chickens under those conditions is cruel. Birds should be allowed to express their normal behaviour and roam freely which does not appear to be happening here. Surely we can all agree that having an animal spend its entire life in a cage where it is treated as an egg laying machine is wrong.

As someone who is a chicken farmer, I can say that what they're doing isn't helping any bird. Chickens hate loud noises, bright lights and things unfimilair to them. They were shinning lights in the birds faces, yelling as they were entering the barn, and hundreds of people rushing a barn is going to be very unfamiliar to those birds. As well, most chicken farms have rules stating that the hens cannot leave their respective barn without percuations as it can lead to the be getting very sick.

Ever since as a young kid, my parents would take me to go see my grandparents and other family members back at México, but one of the many things that my parents did when I went to visit my extended family is see what is like and see the life of México. It was an eye opening experience, and I was felt with so many emotions proud to know where I come from (not just being a US citizen), sad to see the struggle of working Méxican citizen but also appreciation to see what my parents had to sacrafise to come to the US. I am living the American Dream, because I will and am the first and oldest of my family that will be attending to college and getting a STEM degree in one of the most respected fields of Engineering. I do feel that nowadays parents have yet to show their children the reality of what it is to struggle, and sometime I wonder if ever individual that I have met (because there are some who don't know the real meaning of struggle) if they were raised or get to experience what I had experience. The world would be a different place. I 100% agree with you.

Again is it really okay to allow someone to benefit from the unnecessary suffering and death of another? Would you have made the argument that they may not be able to feed their family to defend slavery. Which most likely isn't even the case in this situation, there's plenty of ethical jobs out there. They could even still remain farmers and harvest crops instead. This also isn't about a "mental utopia". These people take the morals of our society and put them into practice. @Vedang Kandoi Bro I agree that something needs to change and that the world needs to go vegan, but trasspassing a farm is not ok. I come from a family of farmers amd I know like no other how hard it is for farmers to keep themselves financially afloat. Bills gotta be paid not even to start about the massive amounts of debt most farmers have. The world is not black and white bro. These animal rights activists are basically sabotaging farmers who already working hard for the basic ability to feed themselves, but that's not something the city dwellers will understand. They only see the animal suffering, which is wrong yes, but the farmers needs to eat.

Abused children in their own country need liberating but they give this energy to chickens. Imagine if they cared this much about children living in horrific, evil conditions. These people aren't compassionate to me. There's a narcissism to people who put animal lives before people - they can't empathize with their fellow human but if something is inferior to them and can obey and love them mindlessly, that's when they care.

Here's a fun fact for you: according to FAO and UNICEF, 82% of starving children live in countries where food is fed to animals, and the animals are eaten by western countries. Animal rights are human rights. Slaughter house workers have extremely high rates of suicide, drug abuse, domestic abuse and suicide. We are animals too. Animal rights is necessary for everyone: people included.
