Though Vietnamese and Cajun cuisines share a lot of common ground, it wasn’t until a community of immigrants and refugees came to New Orleans in the 1970s that the flavors fused. Over time, their descendants have begun to experiment and introduce new ideas, from Cajun crawfish to brisket bánh mì (and even a phở-rrito). We explore the best spots in the city to shop and eat like a true local.

After Hurricane Katrina, A lot of Vietnamese lost their homes and businesses in and around New Orleans. Many of them relocated to Houston and brought over Viet Cajun cuisine which are now very popular in Houston. These are some of the best fusion food that we're lucky to have

I am from this great community and am proud to call it my home. Thank you for making this video, it means a lot to see my community in positive light. Us Vietnamese have a strong sense of camaraderie and family. Again thank you for bringing my home to KZfaq to show everyone what I am proud of.

Went to Vietnam winter of 2019 and I loved every second of it, particularly it's people. I was so inspired by their work ethic and their resilience and the food just blew me away. So glad I got to experience it and hope to go there sometime soon

Visiting is fine. It’s just a city. Keep your wits about you and listen to what the locals tell you what to do, and you’ll have a great time. Millions visit here every year and keep coming back for a reason.

It is interesting that the media portrayed Vietnamese immigrants in a positive light, but treated US soldiers who fought for South VIetnam with such contempt
@SDoesNotKnow
@SDoesNotKnow Жыл бұрын
It only took many decades after the US did not want Vietnamese immigrants to come, othered us, and ignored us into segregated neighborhoods with concentrated poverty. Only now that they realize we’re people and love our food that they portray us well. And it took a decades but there’s been a turn-around in portrayals of Vietnam Vets to where there are tons of memorials all over the country.

Thank the French. They went to SE Asia and gave the world Vietnamese cuisine. They went to the Americas and gave us Cajun/Creole cuisine. Vice should do a video like this about the cuisine of Goa, heavily influenced by the Portuguese colonists and Indian spices.
