This truck sat for 18 years, rotting away. After reviving the truck and getting it back to the shop (unfortunately not under its own power), it's time to bring this truck back around! Follow the series as we bring this truck from rotten to resurrected!

My dad used to always maneuver his 1979 Ford pick up around the woods next to our house, mainly along the trails when I was 11. Made amazing memories. He even baby'd the bumper against a tree and threw it into drive and pushed it over. Ruined the power steering but it was worth it

It's rare to find an old truck or any old vehicle in that condition. I'm totally on board with preserving the paint and only rebuilding and replacing what's needed. In my mind, mostly original survivors are much more interesting than 100 point restorations.

I have not read through all of you comments but you should know this already. If you are using a band clamps on a hose you need to tighten it when the hose is hot...really hot... and make sure you really crank it down and probably use 2 clamps. It's called expansion and contraction....cold is rigid ...hot is pliable so when you crank it down when it is hot it will never come off!!

Well, I don't know. Sometimes a fella has ta say something. I found VGG a month ago...just in time, since I'm eighty darn years old. I spent my teen years laying under cars with dirt in my eyes and ears, praying to get them running before Monday morning. Rebuilt the 292 in my '60 ford while on leave. The test drive was across Nevada and Utah and half of Colorado. I made it, but was AWOL about 12 hours...breakdowns the whole way. Lightening tube spinner, ragitator, electricical maker thing and a tradlee or two. It was all fine. You bring back so many memories which, if a fella is honest, weren't all that fun. It makes my knuckles hurt just thinking about it. But still. You know? It's fine. I'll just spritz some juice on it. Thanks for the memories. No kidding.

I just gotta say, the content and the editing are both 5 stars in my book. Your channel is hands down the most endutaining one on the interwebs. Your wit and charm and vidja quality are the cat's meow! Sorry to hear from your face space page about all the lost content from the inferior quality digicals, dang! Most of all, the almost complete lack of profanity in an age where even the f word is commonly used is so appreciated. My wife and I absolutely love what you and Jessica and the boys, and even the occasional guest appearance of Brother Krang produce. It seems to be bringing you at least some level of properity. You deserve it. I hope the work is worth the reward. We wait with baited breath for each new vidja.

If it was mine, I would concentrate on 2 areas: Spend some time underneath and replace bushings, seals, etc. Then when your confident there is no issues there, move to the interior a bit. Pull the seat, repair/replace wiring as needed, new floor mat, new seat or cover, general cleanup. Paint and exterior can wait, that is just cosmetic for the most part.

yup sometimes its nice to see a guy just using what you have in a budget and not just throwing $1000`s into it in the easy way out.

A guy had a 66 with a 300 straight 6 and that was my favorite ford truck of all time. love the twin I beam suspension. Also had a 74 with a 360, a 79 with a 400 and a 92 with a 300 6 cylinder. I personally prefer the body style of the 73 thru 79 fords, I would love to have that solid truck you are working on. That brings back a lot of memories

Go for the exterior power wash, then spruce up the interior, including plugging the classic air venting around the floor. The fixes so far, are very satisfying. Love watching the rust-a-ration! Happy new year to Derek, Jess, and the boys!

you can tell this truck is for his son, not for Derek. Derek's truck: i think we can plug the radiator holes with some silicon and sheet rock screws. truck for his family: i ordered every shiny piece in the catalog. love it!

Maybe an actual temperature gauge would be a good addition. Making the interior a nice place to be can be an incentive to make the outside look good.

I love the father-son rides but you really should have a weather-tight travel box you can take with you containing oil, coolant, etc, and a few tools. You know the stuff you need.

I’m an old GM guy, but, nothing compares to these old fords with the ride and the reliability of those old 300 straight sixes. I’ve had a lot of Chevy and GMC pickups, with a couple of Dodges for flavor, but my 77 F150 and 84 F150 are still favorites of mine. Just nice, simple, honest pickups that are a blast to drive and enjoy. Thank you for all your videos, always looking forward to your next rescue!

Thanks! I’ve been inspired to try and rescue a 70’s Ford this year myself, but not trying to do a full restore. I’m kinda tired of stuff and fancy things. I want simple and good. This is perfect. Thank you!!!

Nice to see the camera focus is “right on” in the new shop. The one thing that always bugged me in the old shop….camera focused on the background and not on Derek. My vote is to give the truck a nice bath, makes working on it so much more fun.

I love it that you decided to just restore what you have and not do a full blown restoration. I love your channel and how you work. Your channel is awesome and your videos are so comparable to what I do with my vehicles. Keep up the good work man. Happy new year
