Derek, that episode brings back a lot of memories. I turned 16 in 1968, and my dad had bought a brand new 1967 Pontiac and the 67 and 68 were almost identical. The color of that one looked identical to my dad`s car and yes they were a boat compared to today's cars. Thank you, Derek, for the memories, I`m 71 now crippled, and live in a bedroom at my son`s place now, my wife has passed away a little over 8 years ago, and our first date was in that 67 Pontiac. Writing this one out made my eyes do a little leaking.

What I like about your videos is the memories from a time and place that sadly no longer exists I'm 70 and don't recognize the country any more..Thanks for reminding me I was pumping gas at a popular filling station Community Shell in 68

I came to this video because I came across a '68 Bonneville identical to this one but dark green in a salvage yard here in Oklahoma yesterday. It's complete except wheels. The yard shot me a tempting price. Ooh the dilemma.

One of these could break a speed record just by occupying both ends of the Salt Flats. I was a young mechanic in those days, and I remember being annoyed when mid-sized cars started being called full-sized. The 'boat's' days were numbered. Thanks Derek for waking the old girl up. She still has a few things to say.

My first time going over 100 mph was in a ‘68 Bonneville with my Dad when I was 11 in 1974. “Don’t tell your Mom.” Always loved the lines and look of the ‘68 “Bonny”, the trunk is absolutely massive, and the ride is fantastic. She’s a keeper!!

I had a 1968 Pontiac Catalina. Found it on the side of the road for 150 bucks. Brings back great memories.

This video brought me great joy and excitement. I got my driver's license in 1968 so I'm right out of this era. My dad had big GM's since the time I was a little guy and started hanging around watching him doing his own garage maintenance. I learned a lot about the GM V-8s through all those years. Dad had a '60 Buick 225, '60 Pontiac Ventura, '62 Pontiac Catalina, '64 Pontiac Bonneville, '64 Olds 98, '70 Pontiac Bonneville, and '73 Olds 98. At about that time I left home but he continued with big GM's and then switched to Lincolns in the '90s onward.

You gotta love the mid sixties-early seventies GM boats. Very rugged and well-built. Can't wait to see what you do with this one. My vote is for just a nice clean family cruiser maybe with a nice set of 15 or 16 inch wheels and maybe a nice mellow dual exhaust.

Great work getting this roadworthy again Dereck. I was a sophomore in high school when this came out new. I' had a 66 Grand Prix which was the same car with added chrome and drove like you're riding on a cloud.

Back in 72 I was 12 and my best friends parents had a 68 Bonneville. They invited me to go with them in July on a weeks vacation to San Francisco..living in Palm Springs it was quite a drive, about 8 hours . I remember thinking what a nice, smooth riding car it was, and the AC with the old freon was ice cold!! It was fun and I had a great time. Jack and I are still great friends! Great job here, awsome.

Derek is such a character that no matter what your first episode of VGG was, it's always hilarious. "WAY too much, perfect" the first time will have you rewinding like "did I hear that right?" But you still love it as you say it along after the 50th time.

That's really a beautiful car.. what a find!. Before my dad passed in '92 I worked with him in his paint and body and mechanic shop from the time I was 12 or so till he passed when I was 20... this show brings back all the memories of him and myself

Beautiful car; I saw them on the road when they were new, and the Bonneville always seemed luxurious to me (we were poor). I don't think I ever saw anyone under the age of 65 driving one, so as a kid I thought they were old folks cars. But I always wanted to ride in one. You did a fine job bringing this one back to life. It's still a beauty, and I genuinely hope you'll do much more with it!

I really hope to see this rig some more. She really has a lot of potential.

Had a 67 Lemans with an OHC 6...had the same style of mechanical fuel pump on it. The pump arm end had actually snapped off about an inch from the end. I installed it on the side of a snow pack highway in Western Nebraska around 1972. What fun!

The first car that I ever really worked on was a 1968 Oldsmobile 98 Regency that belonged to my buddy's grandma. It stopped running and his dad parked it behind their garage and essentially abandoned it. My buddy and I were young, about 14 or 15, and we had been looking over the shoulders of our older friends who worked on cars, so we decided to get grandma's car running. It was similar to this Pontiac in that it was an enormous land yacht. It had a big block GM V8, but in our case it was a 455. My friend and I each had some basic hand tools; a few wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, and a set of SAE sockets that, between us, was complete. I couldn't believe it when we got it running! We took it for a spin around the block and when we got back to the house, Grandma was on the sidewalk, supported by her walker, and she practically cheered. She was amazed that we, a couple of kids, could get the old beast running again. She was even more shocked when I showed her that I got the front passenger side power window to work. Eventually, my buddy's dad renewed the registration and put some insurance on it and it became my friend's first real car. I don't remember all that much from that far back, but I remember the thrill the first time we took that Olds around the block.

This was the first I watched in a while due to getting busy, but it is always a rush to see these fire up and live vicariously through you r struggle and triumph.

Whilst I always try to watch all of the content Derek makes this type is probably my favourite! Going out and fixing cars on the spot has such a charm to it

I was 12 when we got our 68 Pontiac wagon....it was a light metallic blue which seems to be similar to your Bonneville. It was a 327 that we put a lot of miles on and ran beautiful. Loving this car!

Was just in a car wreck last night, Mother and I ended up going to the hospital. While waiting to see what's going to happen and make sure we're alright I pulled out my phone and to help calm down to get some sense back in life, knowing your antics I was delighted when I found this video. Very chill and enjoyable to watch. Been a fan for a while now but just wanted to say thanks and keep it up. Fyi, we're banged up pretty good and the car is scrap but were going to be alright. Love it... them Pontiac's were runners for sure... Dad had a 66 Catalina 4 door that took us to the west and east coast and back to Texas pulling a pop up camper. He later traded it in for Safari wagon which was not as strong... 400 x 2bbl... but it did hold 5 boys and Mom and Dad. That Bonneville is a keeper.

Derek, This video brought back memories. My family drove these boat style cars, every brand had a couple. That car is clean. It would a candidate for a clean, fix water leaks, doors. Put in a hidden sound system to keep dash correct and make a date night car. That would be so cool tooling around fri/sat night. Keep up the good work.

I have my grandpa’s 1965 Bonneville coupe and I just got her running. They are beautiful cars! Both he and my grandma have passed but it’s like I still have a piece of them here with the car. I’m excited to get some new tires on her and go cruisin’!

I'm 77 years old and I love watching you do all the same stuff I did on the same old cars I did it on. I just can't do it anymore but I did enjoy it. Last one was a 73 XKE that sat for 20 some years that I helped my son resurect. Now I take my rigs to the mechanic and pray. Buying new Hondas or Toyotas also helps. Still fun to watch. Thanks for living the dream.

I had a '69 Catalina, and if you _glared_ hard at the brake pedal it would about put you though the windshield. It was always great fun going from that to my aunt's '68 Nova that didn't have power brakes (or, more precisely, transitioning back to the Catalina from the Nova). I miss that old boat - taught me a lot about car maintenance, and was great fun to drive.

I owned a 68 Bonneville Coupe. Was able to sneak 4 people into the drive-in in that huge trunk! It was fast for a big car even with the standard 400 Cu in. 340 HP engine and 2.56 gear. Would chirp the tires hard when it hit second gear! Wish I would never have sold it.

That 68 Pontiac is in AMAZING condition! The exterior and interior are gorgeous! It sounds good, looks good, what an amazing car! I think this one deserves a nice set of tires and wheels and new exhaust and AC! You, Jessica and the little humans could really get a lot of enjoyment out of this one. My brother-in-law had a 67 this same color back in the day and it was a runner. I loved the vertical headlights on that one, but this 68 is definitely a keeper!
