3:40-4:06--Exactly! Wonderfully put. This video was fantastic. Victor Hugo is one of my favorite historical figures, both as a writer and what he did for humanity. Was he perfect? No, but who is? Describing him as "The flawed radical, someone who was far ahead of his time on many issues, but was far from perfect when it comes to modern standards" sums it up brilliantly. Bravo!

Diolch Ben! Yes we decided to dive in with both feet on this one. The equipment helps, but I'm sure nothing will be able to substitute for just having interesting content! Good luck with your own channel.

I enjoyed this video, a very good summary of the great French author's life. I've come to know a fair amount about Hugo over the last couple of years or so. Now that I'm retired, I've been trying to catch up on reading as many of the great classic novels as I can, something I never had time for previously, not to mention the lack of maturity, patience, and/or interest. I think they're all quite wonderful now. I haven't yet read "Les Miserables", as it is daunting. I've discovered that, even in retirement, it's hard to find time to do as much reading as I'd like. I hope to read both LM & "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" eventually. Currently, however, I'm reading what's probably a little-known novel of Hugo's titled "Toilers of the Sea". It's set among the islands of the English Channel where the author lived in exile for several years, though he plays no part in the story. I like the tale very much. It isn't difficult to read at all & is made especially compelling & colorful by it's unusual & fascinating locale. "Sea" is a substantial work, too, but not quite as overwhelming as LM & Notre Dame. Your video helped reinforce the fact that Hugo, through his novels, short-stories, essays, & public statements was a great humanitarian, & which provided superb examples. I've subscribed now as well!

You've never heard Les Miserables spoken out loud? How is that possible? From what I've heard, Hugo's record for the biggest book deal of all time was finally broken by Clive Barker for 17 book deal.
