The hype continues to grow around Victor Wembanyama being the best NBA prospect we have ever seen. However, two NBA stars are saying pump the brakes. Damian Lillard tweeted out quote, “I was in 7th grade when they were Hyping Bron! He still at the top 20 years later … stop playing with him… it’s gettin outa pocket.” Draymond Green on his podcast also defended LeBron as the best prospect ever saying LeBron quote, “outlived, and outdid what we thought of him as a prospect.” Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe debate.

Skip didnt say those exact words. All he was implying was that he knew Lebron had potential to be a great player but he had no expectation for specific records he will break. Skip did mention he did not expect Lebron to have the longevity he had and maintaining the high level(consistency) in all of these years. Except these two he matched all of his expectations - great passer, great IQ, great driver of the ball, poor free throw, poor 3 point shooter. The main reason he has broken the scoring record is the longevity and the consistency in all of these years. League has seen many better offensive/scorers but none have the longevity and consistency that Lebron has and thus no one will break his record. Its like hare vs tortoise. Lebron is tortoise, while folks like Kevin Durant, Harden, Curry are Hare.

Over Lebron? I think that’s a little ridiculous because Lebron was just different at his age and he was younger than Victor is now… so maybe in a sense of social media but as far as skill and greatness and longevity I don’t think he’s going to go as far as Lebron did so tbh that’s ridiculous to compare Victor to Lebron in that sense… I’ll let you know after he has to guard Giannis Or Davis Or Embiid

I used to take the short drive to Akron from my hometown Cleveland to see 16 yrs old Lebron play and honestly, I had never seen anything like him in high school ever NOBODY. In my mind I was thinking that's a man inside the body of a 16 yrs old playing with boys. I used to think the same when I saw first saw Shawn Kemp and then Chris Weber play in high school. I used to drive home shaking my head in disbelief and I am not even exaggerating. I sat in the then Cavs Gund Arena watching first-year Lebron still not believing what I was seeing. I watched him at 22 take a Cavs team to the NBA Finals that if your life depended on it you could not name the starting 5 without the help of Google. Lebron is the only one in his entire 2003 draft class still in the NBA today. So nah I can't give Wembanyama that type of hype. I now live in Vegas and had a chance to watch Wembanyama play last summer I will say this. He looks like a create NBA 2K player with all the sliders maxed out Funny fact: We know who was in the Top 5 of LeBrons 2003 draft with him, Melo, Bosh and Wade but do even remember that our boy Kendrick Perkins was the 27th pick of the Memphis Grizzles in the 1st round of that same draft. Be careful of overhyping. Just let Wembanyama be and develop naturally. I remember people were saying Greg Oden will become the next best center. Magazine covers everywhere: Dime, Hoops, ESPN, SLAM, etc. Some hyped his draft as potentially one of the best ever with him going to number 1 and Durant at number 2. People were already counting on Oden to bring Portland multiple championships. It was kind of crazy. So when he was hurt (and constantly hurt) and sat out for several seasons it caused quite a toxic backlash of him being a bust. The media created the giant hype and followed it with enormous hate.

In terms of 18 year old prospect Kareem, Kobe, Garnett and LeBron where highly hyped, Bron's buzz was helped mostly by KG's and Kobe's success as high schoolers especially Kobe's because he was the first none Big out of high school that became a superstar

KG and Kobe were good but they weren’t hyped on the level as Kareem or Bron..in fact it was seen as risk for them to jump straight to the league..and they certainly weren’t number one picks like Kareem, Bron and now Wemby.

@@foundationsyth9825Actually he was hyped the issue was that non bigs where a big no no coming out as high schoolers a bunch of teams where high on Kobe but they allowed his age and the position he played to get in the way, you know he was hyped when people made a big deal about his annoucement to make the jump to the NBA

@Jean Payano yeah but you can't put him in the same convo as LeBron. LeBron was a prospect they were talking about being the best ever. Noone ever had that convo about any other prospect besides Kareem. Bryant wasn't even as hyped as Tim Duncan was

@@foundationsyth9825 Kobe hype wasn't as big as LeBron because the last high schoolers to go Pro before him & KG were Moses Malone & Daryl Dawkins. He's saying the success of KG, Kobe (& T-Mac) HELPED build the hype for LeBron which is undeniably true. Kobe in HS was an absolute monster. He graduated the all-time leading scorer for the state of Pennsylvania over Wilt Chamberlain. His HS stats were just as good or better than MJ & LeBron lol. I was around when the Kobe craze stuck. He went to prom with Brandy & was the media darling. The hype around Wemby is real considering they've been hyping him for the past two years & have showcased his French team. The NBA practically NEVER does that for INTL players.

I just saw a clip on Twitter of the ESPN into to lebron a first nationally televised high school game and the hype and pressure they put on Lebron was crazy . I mean they brought up every all time great player, in retrospect it was crazy that lebron was able to rise to the occasion

There was a graphic of Lebron in an game on the cavs in his very early days... and his team role was listed as "Savior" That is ALL you need to know about how HYPED LeBron was from even when he was 15-16.

Wembanyama is not American. If he was American, he would have been even bigger. He was not in an American high school. ESPN bought the French league just to follow Wembanyama.

I'm not saying he is or will be near Kareem LeBron but if he can dominate the league for a ten to twelve year span with multiple MVPs defensive titles scoring titles and multiple championships 5-7 then you can begin the argument but not for now he just has the potential to be a great NBA prospect. Hopefully he achieves these high expectations.
